feel free to ignore this if you want but do you find art meetups are a good place to socialize as well as work on art? I'm also an artist in nyc & have been thinking about finding art meetups / classes as a way to meet more people while working from home but I always worry it'll just be quietly sitting around painting

it depends on the meetup, tbh, I've been to some pretty social ones and some.... not so much! I think your best bet is to try to look for regular meetups, rather than one-off events/classes, my personal experience has been that one-offs can be fun but it's hard to make any long-lasting connections from them. (but like, maybe you're more sociable than I am haha)

First of all seeing your year in art is so inspirational! Keep up the great work!

When you do the coastcards, do you paint directly on the surface? Are they cork? Do you put a finish on them when theyre done?

I would love to give it a try for myself! Seems like a great gift idea for the other art lovers in my life :)

Take care and cheers to another year of art!

thank you!!

they're actually wood; if you search for "unpainted wooden coaster", you should be able to find some! idk if I'd recommend the ones I used this year tbh, I went with thinner coasters so they'd take up less space, but they warped a bit during the painting process :( last year I used thicker ones, like 1/2in maybe, and those were sturdier.

I paint directly on them, although depending on your paint, you might need to build up a few layers before the wood texture stops showing through. haven't done any varnishing (yet?), but I'm not planning on using them as coasters, so if you wanna make them actually useful, I'd recommend some kind of finish!

but yeah they're fun! also great for making small studies or if you want to get better at using a specific kind of paint by doing Many Paintings With It

hope your painting-on-coasters adventure goes well, if you decide to go through with it!!
