Part 1: The Girl Everyone Looks At
You sit in the third row of Intro to Astrophysics because it’s the optimal viewing angle for the board and far enough from other people to avoid unnecessary conversation.
Not that you mind conversation. You just prefer equations.
Your notebook is already half-filled with neat handwriting and margin notes when the lecture hall suddenly shifts — like gravity tilts for a second.
Laughter. Soft. Familiar.
You don’t look up right away. You don’t need to.
Madison Beer sits two seats down from you.
She’s wearing the cheer team hoodie — navy blue, cropped just enough to look intentional — and her hair is pulled into a loose ponytail that somehow still looks expensive. She smells like vanilla and something floral, and you hate that your brain notices.
Everyone notices Madison.
She’s kind of impossible not to.
Captain of the cheer team. Social media famous. The kind of girl professors remember and students whisper about. The kind of girl who looks like she exists in a different font than everyone else.
And yet… she’s in your class.
Again.
You’ve noticed this before. Three weeks in a row, same lecture, same seat. She always comes in late. Always drops into the chair beside you like it was reserved.
Today, she leans over.
“Hey,” she whispers, smiling like you’re already friends.
You blink. Once. Twice.
“Hi.”
Your voice cracks slightly. You hate that.
She doesn’t.
She glances at your notebook. “You actually understand this stuff, right?”
You swallow. “I mean… yeah. Mostly.”
Her eyes light up. Actually light up.
“Oh thank God,” she says. “I was starting to think I was doomed.”
You’re not sure how to respond, so you default to honesty. “You could sit literally anywhere else.”
She laughs — soft, genuine — and shrugs. “Yeah, but then who would save me from academic failure?”
You feel your face heat.
The professor starts talking again, and Madison scoots closer, her knee brushing yours.
It’s accidental.
Probably.
You focus on the board. On formulas. On anything that isn’t the fact that Madison Beer is quietly copying your notes and occasionally nudging your arm to ask questions.
Halfway through the lecture, she leans in again.
“You’re really smart,” she says, like it’s a casual observation.
You shrug. “You’re… really loud when you walk in.”
She grins. “Wow. Nerds are savage.”
You smile despite yourself.
And for the first time since the semester started, Madison Beer doesn’t feel like someone untouchable.
She feels like someone… sitting next to you.
Yelena & Y/N sleeping in bed together.
Y/N: The bed is not that small.
Yelena: Then why are you on my side?
Y/N: You pulled me over.
Yelena: I was asleep. My subconscious is clingy.

Cat sits beside Lois…
Cat: so is Kent—
Lois: I’m dating Clark
Cat: oh I know that. Im talking about Y/N Kent. Clark’s cousin.
Lois looks over to see Clark and Y/N behaving like absolute klutzes…
Lois: Y/N’s single
Cat: thank you. The strong clumsy type is my catnip
Cat strolls over to Y/N…

Cat makes sure Y/N is hers.
Y/N: You’re standing really close.
Cat: I’m asserting dominance.
Y/N: By touching my waist?
Cat: Precisely.
