ive been keeping this in too long keyes is such a delightful route. stories abt about reconciling your sense of self with a world you don't understand are usually abt feeling inferior to it but here its almost reversed, when you're someone of high status and rigid excellence suddenly in a world so basic and ordinary in comparison, the perception of you as a haughty diva only adding to your disconnection and isolation and the narrative could've simplified her as that but goddamnit it DIDN'T. it let her imperfectly express her dissonance with the common world and humanized her position at the same time, it let her be funny and intelligent and graceful and self assured while letting her grow as a person in such a realistic way, and the fact she doesn't have bg music until the end of her route when she's found comfort in where she is hammers that home just brilliantly. I especially appreciate how they decided to give such a layered, thoughtful story to a black woman, that they gave her such a consistent presence in the promo material. i love this piano. i will fight for this piano the piano is best girl
