have a great day
The Electric Lagoon
Okay here we go, I don't know why I'm so nervous typing or posting this but it probably has to do with the fact that I never imagined myself having to do this.
So as some of you may (or may not) know, I am of Jamaican heritage. I was born in the UK as was my mother but both of her parents were born and lived in Jamaica and my mother was raised there for most of her life. It's a heritage that I am extremely proud of, a tiny island with such a big influence around the world. Not just because of our food or music but our people too, nothing can keep us down.
On Tuesday Oct 28th hurricane Melissa made landfall on the island of Jamaica and caused a historic level of devastation for the island. Peoples homes, towns and livelihoods were destroyed and multiple lives were lost. We are a resilient people but there comes a time in life when we all need help which is what my family and I are asking for right now.
My grandmother spent years of her life working to build her home in Jamaica and it was something she was very proud of but unfortunately hurricane Melissa took that from her. My grandmother who is now 83 has dementia and diabetes so being without a roof over her head is extremely concerning and we as a family want to remedy that as soon as we can, even from hundreds/thousands of miles away. Below I will post a link to the GoFundMe page for donations to help rebuild my grandmothers house.
I understand we are all struggling right now (hence the need for a GoFundMe in the first place) so donations are welcomed and greatly appreciated but I know that is not a possibility for a lot of people understandably so if you could just please share this post that would be greatly appreciated too! π«Άπ½

comparison is the thief of joy.
while this revelation isn't new, it's very true. while on a social media detox, I played a bit of sims.
completely vanilla, only taking screenshots when something funny happened more out of a reflex than a need to document something and it felt freeing and fun.
while I did have a mod or two (cutting ads from home screen launch for one...,) I disabled the packs I didn't love and just played.
when consuming other people's highly curated and edited gameplay and screenshots you begin to wonder β why doesn't my game look like that? why don't I do that? why don't I have that downloaded?
before long you've been glued to someone else's work whether subconsciously or on purpose and it becomes less 'inspiration' and more like idolizing, agonizing, and indecision.
all of this to say: play the game if you want to. embrace the quirks of the gameplay, realize that it might not be the same thing others post but if you remove the self imposed rat race of (a lot, not all) of simblr β you can have fun.
make sims weird again.
From September 24th to October 3rd, Toronto Palestine Film Festival returns for its 18th year! I have attended with my friend and watched a comedy-drama film called, "Thank You For Banking With Us", directed by Laila Abbas.
It is about two sisters, Miriam and Noura, from the West Bank. Their father passes away and they work together to claim their inheritance before it goes to their brother since the Sharia law dictates that he will receive twice the amount. [I highly recommend it! The film is aware that it is approaching a serious topic - a taboo as Laila says - but it is full of heart and humour and you root for Miriam and Noura!]
As the film reaches an end, there is a prerecorded Q&A session with Laila Abbas. There is one question that sticks out to me: "How do you feel as a culture worker during this time?" Laila answers that she feels like she is not doing enough. She should do more! But she realizes that she should keep creating. It is act of resistance! She also points out that seeing everyone creating art for Palestine around the world. She is not alone! And this is why we keep talking about Palestine! Boycott, donate, protest, and of course, make art!
Please consider helping my dear friend, Ruba (@rubashgaza)! She informs me that she and her family are often displaced and need to purchase a new tent, food, medicine, and other essentials! Her fundraiser is verified (#90). More context about her fundraiser. Remember: You can give as little as $1, and in your own currency, such as AUD, CAD, EUR, GBP, or USD!
No donations were made in the past 6 days! Still at Β£488! Please donate and share! Ruba and her family are in dire need for food, fuel, mecidene, supplies, and other essentials! Remember: You can give as little as $1, and in your own currency, such as AUD, CAD, EUR, GBP, or USD!
Last night, we barely survivedβ¦
Gaza was burning under relentless bombardment with every kind of weapon. Entire neighborhoods were destroyed within hours.
We were forced to flee our place of residence in the north, and we spent the night on the street until β with great difficulty β we found a car to take us to the south at a heavy price. We carried with us fear, exhaustion, hunger, and suffering, yet still no real safety.
π Today, for the first time, a UN investigative committee has officially confirmed that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. This is not just a report β it is a testimony to the death, displacement, and destruction we endure every single day.
We are living this genocide moment by moment⦠our lives are hanging by a thread.
Please, help us survive. Your donation could save my family from hunger and homelessness. ππ΅πΈ
π Share, comment, and reblog so our voices are not silenced.
