Clay, he/she/they, queer! — #clay does art

The idea of “but everyone knows that” needs to stop.

I saw a post about someone chiding Millennials for not knowing about JKRowlings transphobia, and asking how it is at all possible that people can exist in the world and the internet and, you know, not know.

Which I mean, I get. It is so present in so many of my online spaces that it seems astounding that someone could simply be ignorant! It feels impossible!

But let me tell you a story:

I went on a girls trip with a bunch of friends. All of us are rather incredibly liberal and all of us are incredibly online.

One girl would not stop talking about Harry Potter.

At one point, another girl asked her why she was ok with supporting it, and she had no real clue that JK Rowling was at all transphobic. She had heard that she likes to support Lesbian causes and thought “oh ok cool!” And that was it. She was AGOG with the news and rather horrified.

I must once again emphasize that she was an incredibly online person. She’s a foodie and a restaurant blogger.

Later in the trip we were picking restaurants and I suggested one I found on Google, and she gasped at me. Actually gasped, asking how I could ever be okay picking that one.

The shock must’ve been on my face, because she then told me all of the shitty things that restaurateur does. He abuses staff. Underpays them. Fires them on a whim. Is known for being one of the worst people to his employees in the entire restaurant business on this coast.

And she was so shocked I had never heard of this. Because in her mind, I was just as online as her. And in her online world, EVERYONE knew about this guy.

So I think the moral of this story is: always approach the other person with some empathy. Even online people, even people you think MUST know about how bad people are, may not have heard. It may truly be just them being on a different sphere of the internet than you.

So be gentle, be kind when letting people know they might not have heard about the cancellation of XYZ person. Don’t assume that everyone knows all the same info as you.

By all means, let them know so they can make informed decisions, but being kind will go a lot further than attacking them for some info they might not know yet.

“Of course we’re in love, that’s why i tried to shoot you” “if you really loved me you wouldn’t have missed” is such a raw ass line you would think it comes from Goncharov (1973) and you would be right

“Great art, AI could never do this!” “Hell yeah! I love trans people! Transphobes cannot handle trans swag!” “Look at this lesbian dating another lesbian! We’re about to piss off the homophobes with this one” “POC have great cultural practices. I’m sure the racists are having heart attacks right now.””Love seeing disabled people around. Bet the ableist are peeing their pants right now.”

Oh I get it, we’re in the Bad Place.

"But what's wrong with this?" What's wrong with this is that often times, people leave these types of comments when it's not necessary.

Leaving comments like this takes a moment of celebration and turns it to a moment of spite.

This is especially annoying when it's online. Most online spaces are algorithmically based and since algorithms like to share posts that will spread controversy, comments like that are only going to attract more people to it.

Bringing generative AI into a conversation that was started when someone wanted to share their art is just going to attract a generative AI dick rider to "erm actually..." the conversation. Bringing transphobia into a conversation that's supposed to be support of trans people will cause transphobes to enter the conversation and remind said trans person about transphobia. And so on and so forth.

If you want to show your support, keep the first half and drop the second half. Just say "you're amazing" and move on. It's a supportive message and it's still a celebration.

This is also the exact same mental trap conservatives and right-wingers fall into, doing shit just to "own the libs" - then their entire existence becomes defined by hatred instead of having an actual personality

If you can't enjoy something without thinking about how it's pissing off someone you don't like, then what's even the point??

YES, thank you!

Just like being a Republican changed from being a side that stood for the individual person is now just "triggering the libs," if we go down that same route, we will be just as lost.

If everyone is just hellbent on hating the other side, who will be around to love us?

You can't say "look at these people getting triggered by us just living our lives" when in the next breath you admit that you're doing it on purpose. You're no longer just living your life, no longer merely existing. It's not only a sad way to live your life, it also becomes strategically self-defeating.

There was this really interesting post someone did about... I think traditional Chinese makeup from one of the dynasties. And it went on for several posts/reblogs being interesting and historical, and then someone came along to post about how upset they'd be if they saw white people doing this, or something like that, and I was just so impressed because until they came along, it hadn't been about white people for a change.

shut the fuck up. shut the FUCK UP. I’ve seen scattered episodes of x-files but I decided to watch them all from the beginning and what do you mean “I Want To Believe” is the thing Mulder says about his sister coming back. The famous x-files phrase on all the posters searching for alien life and all Mulder wants to believe in is his sister returning to him. That’s why he does it all. What the FUCK. I’m on episode FOUR.

talking about a movie with someone who also hated it: yeah man that shit fucking blows, you'd have to be lesser than a dog to enjoy it

talking about same movie with someone who enjoyed it: i dont think it quite reached the heights that it was reaching for

i want to do a painting of a tiger taking a bath to put in a bathroom (bathroom-themed bathroom) and to this end i made a little maquette out of clay and i suspect this will scope creep into having both a painting and sculpture of a tiger or perhaps only a sculpture of a tiger. if i do both should they be displayed together or separately

Tiger maquette by the way 🐅

Working on cutting out a large piece of wood to do the painting on, which is a constraint that will either be really fun or really annoying. Maybe both

Wood primed and underpainted and sketch transferred mostly by cutting it out in different chunks and tracing around them. Stripes to be determined. Nobody let me work on this again for at least two weeks

The finished Ms. Tigers

This is Gaza, where not a single house remains standing. We are without shelter, without food, without water. We are dying. We are being bombed every day. We are being shot at in the middle of Gaza City. Where is the ceasefire agreement? Where is the humanity? They are shooting at and targeting people who go to get some firewood for their families to cook. We are truly oppressed.

For two years, we have been suffering from illness, murder, war, loss, we have been suffering, and we are still suffering yesterday, the rains were very heavy and the storms are strong. Please donate to us and share this post Please donate, donate, don't ignore.

In recent days, the bombing has doubled from previous days. The bombing is very difficult. There have been many martyrs in recent days. Also, guys, my father's health condition is very difficult. He's suffering from high blood pressure and a serious cancerous tumor inside the bladder. And the tumor is from the malignant sample, which is rapidly spreading. Please donate and share this post

Please help my friend Ibrahim. He's only a kid, and doesn't deserve to be in this situation. He's been talking with me for months and he's currently pretty sick.

I didn't really get meal prepping when it was about assembling full meals in little fridge containers, because those become unappetizing after literally 48 hours, so if you're working 4 or 5 days a week, what's the point? But now that it's about freezing different recipes in small portions using silicone molds and then assembling modular meals? I've completely lost my mind. As of right now I have three-bean vegetarian chili, lemon-dill chickpea stew, two kinds of rice, macaroni & cheese, and guacamole in my freezer. Also frozen pancakes. Also just two servings each of Hungarian mushroom soup and prepped chef's salads in my fridge (including hard boiled eggs!). I'm working 3 twelve-hour days right now, which means I can't cook at all during the work week, so the day before my "Monday" has become cooking day. I'm having a lot of fun, but I maaay need a chest freezer.

I hate cooking. I used to work in a factory. I now work in IT. Welcome to spreadsheet cooking.

  • I have a chest freezer in the living room of my apartment. It paid for itself the first month I owned it.
  • Two pressure cookers (or slow cookers). One for the meat sauce, one for the grain.
  • The US Navy Cookbook 1944 has recipes for curries, stews, and casseroles meant to feed 100. I scale them down to 25.
  • Pancake batter can be frozen. I weigh the pancake ingredients into a blender, blend, pour it into a ziploc bag, freeze, repeat. Bake them in the oven. Pack them in your lunches.

if you ever hear a little voice saying "just sew the full 3 meter hemline by hand, it will be fine, think about how neat it will be" thats the devil talking

I need to draw men being obnoxious to their partners and getting In The Way right now immediately.

it is it's nature to Be In The Way.

Just... Pick them up??? Grab a blanket, wrap 'em up, then move them out of the way.

the consequences of doing that:

just needed to make a conclusion to this

tbh this post is Just for the it/its crowd now. keep shining.

(but for real it makes me happy other it/its folks are getting a lil joy out of an it/its character like. casually existing and having a fun gender.)
