In which I have strong opinions

I know fuck all about VPNs.

I delete most of my posts after a month or so to keep my blog manageable and to organize my reblogs. You have my permission to reblog whatever deleted post I made. It wouldn't be on the internet if I wasn't okay with it getting shared.

Here are some of the major resources I've made and some of my sideblogs in case you're looking for something that I reblogged, plus my answers to the tech questions I get most frequently:

Decorative Shingles

Hello i just felt "are you a cooper this is cooper behavior" become a permanent part of my vocabulary thank you @potatoshoe

I've no idea who or what cooper is, hoping someone knows

A cooper is a barrel-maker, so splitting a log into many slim planks is absolutely cooper behavior.

NYT, 3 January 2026: “At least 40 people were killed in Saturday’s attack on Venezuela, including military personnel and civilians, according to a senior Venezuelan official who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe preliminary reports.”

The death toll is now 80

horse owners are either extremely far right or extremely far left. horseshoe theory but for owning an actual horse. I guess it’s because apolitical moderate weirdos are too weak to steer a horse in either direction. you have to have some sort of conviction to ride a horse, they can tell when you’re wavering and they will ignore you.

Longer answer: For years I've shared the photo below as an example of our height difference, it was a photo that I took with a timer when we were on a day trip driving through the local mountains where he pulled into a turnout because I wanted a picture of us together on the trip.

Six years later, when he was in the hospital for his transplant, he asked me to download some photos from his home computer and bring them to him so he could edit them on his laptop. I went through the pictures and saw some photos from this drive and looked in the folder and saw that he had taken a photo of me setting up the shot that I didn't remember him taking, that he had never showed me or talked about, but was the only photo in that folder that he had opened and edited and named.

What's the line from the poem? "I just love the way that men love"?

But also he is so smart and kind and good at doing things and my dog likes him.

Also, his favorite thing to do is make stupid faces at the camera; the best photos I've got of them are the ones where he doesn't know a photo is happening so he can't make a face.

This behavior persists when he is literally actively dying. It was a problem when he was waiting for his transplant because his mom couldn't visit him so I had to use photos to convince her that he was okay so it didn't help when he made his starving victorian orphan face or his deranged ringmaster face at the camera.

So if he looks goofy as fuck in photos I post that's likely intentional.

I love him very much but there's a reason "bastard" is in the nickname along with "large."

Also for the folks who aren't aware, Large Bastard had a quad bypass in 2019 and a heart and liver transplant in 2021, he's doing very well now and is on antirejection meds he will have to take for the rest of his life. These are the photos of Large and Tiny Bastard seeing each other for the first time in three months, after he'd been hospitalized for the transplant.

I know his weight fluctuates a lot in the photos I've been posting, he lost over seventy pounds when he was dying of heart failure and recovering from the transplants. He is much heavier now, some of which is due to taking steriods as an antirejection drug and some of which is due to him working to put weight on after getting out of the hospital; he worked very hard to go from these photos to the big hefty dude out at the cabin this weekend and I'm proud of him for it.

As you may notice from some of these photos, I'm a photographer. I'm a pretty skilled photographer. I take tons of portraits and candids of the people in my life.

One of the kind of annoying things about being "the good photographer" among your friends and family is that you don't end up with a lot of good photos of yourself that aren't self portraits; you're always taking pictures of other people and you've got 'the good camera' so people frequently *don't* take pictures of you when you're doing stuff because you're usually doing stuff from behind the camera.

I think part of why I'm so touched by the photo he took of me setting up is that it means he's looking at me the way that I'm looking at him, he wants pictures of me doing things that I enjoy and am good at not because he's going to post the pictures or edit them to look cool or as part of a project but just because he likes seeing me that way, and wanted to take a picture of me to remember it, and kept it and named it so he could find it when he wanted to look at it.

ok maybe now is a good time to remind everyone that you need to court military members for your anti-war activism for it to mean any amount of a good goddamn. like. that was a really, really, indispensably important aspect of the anti-war movement during the Vietnam war. That's how you get mutinies to happen. Do not be stupid about this.
