INTERVIEW: LIFE OF AGONY WITH FRANK IERO

Struggling with love woes? Well, you’re in luck, because Frank Iero is here to help fix ‘em. In this week’s issue of Kerrang!, Frank teams up with fellow rock-superstar-turned-agony-uncle Alice Cooper, to solve all your pesky Valentine’s problems.

From proposing right, to, um, farting, Frank has got you covered. So, soak up all of his wisdom below, and pick up this week’s issue for more!

Dear Frank,

I’m supposed to take a girl out to dinner, but I’m totally broke after going out with my friends last week. What can I do? Thanks, Andy

Frank says:

Dear Alan, Ah yes the age old question, “How do I sustain my mate for free?” Alan, have you heard of a little thing called the FREE-GAN movement? Nothing goes to waste, self-sustainmentation, one man’s leftovers is the rich world’s garbage, the garbage world’s leftovers fills your belly and so forth. First, have the young lady pick out her favorite restaurant. Say, “Nothing is too good for you my dear!” or some whack shit like that, and then pretend to call her preferred restaurant and ‘make a reservation’. When the date is set, get all gussied up and take her to that god damned restaurant. Then when she heads for the front door, stop her. Wag your index finger at her like, “Nah nah, girl”, then proceed to the alleyway behind the restaurant and locate the dumpster, quietly whisper to your date, “You liked the Lady and the Tramp right?”. Now if you’re a gentleman you can help hoist the young lady up into the dumpster to choose her own free dinner, but then again if you’re really considering making her eat garbage you might as well just grab the good stuff for yourself and throw her a chicken bone. xofrnk

Dear Frank,

A girl I was seeing farted and it stank the room out, and I said it was me to cover for her. Now we’ve broken up, and everyone knows me as the fart guy. Should I drag her name through the mud? Thanks, Paul

Frank says:

Hey Fart Guy, I’ve heard about you… We’ve all heard about you. Don’t attempt to deny the fart now. Everyone knows you fart at parties and then try and clear your name months later by writing to unsuspecting guest columnists in weekly rock magazines, hoping to blame it on some poor innocent non-farter. But guess what flatulater? We’re on to you and your disgusting fetish, and you will not get away with it anymore! The fart stops here gasman! I have contacted the proper authorities about your false fart allegations, and it is just a matter of time before you’ll be blaming your butt air on your fellow prisoners. Which is probably a really terrible idea. xofrnk

Hi Frank,

I want to propose to my girlfriend but I can’t think of a good place to do it! Any suggestions? Cheers, Josh

Frank says:

Hi Josh, You see the problem with most proposals is the whole will she say “YES!” or will she say “NO!” and laugh at you relentlessly thing. So, in order to remove that unknown from the equation, I have come up with the best solution for you. Find out when your girlfriend’s next dental appointment is scheduled for. If you are in a hurry you can probably speed this process up buy hiding a small pebble in a piece of gum and giving it to her, but neither I nor Kerrang! condone such behavior publicly. Anyway, assuming you have found she has a cleaning or some extremely invasive procedure scheduled coming up, plan to be free that day. Sneak into her dentist’s office while she has been called in for her appointment and lie in wait. As soon as the dentist has your bride to be’s mouth pried open and both hands full of sharp utensils shoved inside, jump out and pop the question! Girls love shit like that! Now, she will be hard pressed to give you a definite answer right then and there so you have two options. You can just assume it’s a yes, and bulldoze the rest of your lives together. Hell, maybe even bring a priest or judge with you to the dentist and get it all done before she can even rinse. Or, you can wait for her to reclaim her senses and form an actual answer. And if you sense its a “NO!” coming followed by hideous unrelenting cackles of laughter, you can probably hock a loogie directly into her open mouth before she gets the dental equipment out of it. xofrnk

GERARD WAY AND GEOFF RICKLY REFLECT ON THE INTERTWINED HISTORY OF MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE AND THURSDAY

Gerard Way and Geoff Rickly, the former faces of My Chemical Romance and Thursday, have a lot in common. They both grew up in New Jersey. They both rose to fame through fronting game-changing bands that came up in the early 2000s. And they both broke away from those bands to pursue new avenues; Way now performs under his own name and is taking his career as a comic book artist to the next level (he made his Marvel Comics debut last year with Edge of Spider-Verse #5 last year), while Rickly is balancing his time between his current bands United Nationsand No Devotion. Last week, the pair toured the UK together with their new projects, with No Devotion supporting Gerard Way and The Hormones. The history between the pair is loaded with significance, but just to give an idea of how significant it is to other people: on the night of their London show a line of fans began to snake down the side of Brixton Academy hours before doors. Some of them actually arrived the day before and camped out overnight (on what is practically a main road, in Brixton, in near-zero degree temperatures) just to guarantee a spot at the front. Ergo, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that some people value their music so much that they would risk actual death just to be closer to it. Luckily for me, I got to sit down with Way and Rickly (without risking much death) to discuss growing up, blowing up, and moving on from the monumental projects that launched their musical careers.

Mod post: MCC needs your help

I really hate to do this but http://mychemicalcollective.com ‘s domain renewal is coming up on February 1st and I literally do not have the extra money to renew it. I’ve been paying for the domain name out of my own pocket for years and even paid for the custom theme for the site out of pocket. I don’t put ads on the site because it’s just too cumbersome and annoying. I don’t profit off the site what so ever and even though it’s slow to update sometimes, between the site itself, the twitter and the facebook, I try to keep them updated because honestly the only thing I care about is maintaining a streamlined place for people to get news and updates.

If you can spare anything to donate keeping the site up, or at least the domain, please send donations to [email protected] via paypal.

I’ve also got a redbubble account which I had completely forgotten about until some sales turned up recently. If you want an mcr inspired t-shirt or mug or something, check it out.

Hello MCC! I'm part of a My Chemical Romance anthology project. It's no secret the MCRmy is VERY creative, and our goal here is to put together a collection of comics inspired by MCR's albums & themes. We'll be launching our call for contributors this week at, so if you are interested or know anyone who might be, spread the word! All the latest information will be available on our tumblr page, where I'm sending this ask from. Have a great day/evening :)

“There might be expectations, but I’m out to shatter them”—Ray Toro on his solo debut and MCR

“I’m excited about the unexpected,” says former My Chemical RomanceguitaristRay Toroabout his debut solo album, as well as the artistic exploits of his former bandmates. “The band was great because we all came from different backgrounds and different personalities. The question then was ‘Okay, what can these guys make together?’ Now it’s about, ‘Okay, what else is going on inside the head of this one personality?’ There might be expectations, but I’m out to shatter them.”
Toro’s solo debut is shaping up to be quite an ambitious project. Although he’s known as a top-notch technical shredder, Toro is branching out in significant ways, emphasizing songwriting capabilities over fretboard calisthenics. He’s writing, singing, producing, programming and playing many of the parts (he even drums on a couple tracks), leaving no time to do 111 takes on a guitar solo. Assisting him on the as-yet-untitled record are drummers Jarrod Alexander (on loan from Gerard Way And The Hormones) and Tom Rasulo, respected session guitarist Tim Pierce, bassist Chris Chaney, keyboardist Jamie Muhoberac and even Toro’s wife Christa, who contributes vocals (“Look At You Now”). At the time of this writing, he’s only issued two songs, “Isn’t That Something” and “For The Lost And The Brave,” a song he had written a year ago, but was inspired to release online after reading the tragic story of transgender teen Leelah Alcorn.
While the big questions of what label and when it’s released have yet to be answered, Toro spoke with Jason Pettigrew from his home in Studio City, California, about relocating to the West Coast, becoming the captain of his own ship, choosing conscience over commerce and whether his personal listening habits lean towards alienation or stomachaches.

I wrote this song about a year ago, waiting to release it on my record when it was complete.  There have been many times that I've almost put it out, but have always found a reason to hold it back.  But lately there seems to be so much hate and misunderstanding in this world.
As I'm sure many of you felt after reading the news of young Leelah Alcorn taking her own life, my heart sank.  I felt sick.  Yet another young life gone because of not being heard, not being understood, and not being unconditionally loved for who they truly were.  After hearing her story, and reading her final Tumblr post, I finally felt it was time to share this song.
It is time we learn to accept each other for who we truly are.  Being seen, heard, and truly loved as our authentic selves is something we all want, and something we all deserve.
For The Lost And Brave.
