Just a guy who draws

@nazrigar / nazrigar.tumblr.com

Nicolas' Creature Corner, I'm a Storyboard artist and Character/Creature designer workin' in a startup studio!I'm a guy who absolutely just wants to draw everything and anything. My particular favorite things to write about however is always about monsters.

what kinds of beast folk don't exist or don't exist anymore? is there a rule of thumb to it or is it just by chance? sorry if i'm asking too many questions about this i just really like the setting.

I'm glad you like my setting! I always appreciate it when folks like my worldbuilding stuff.

To answer your question, one group as a whole are were-dinosaurs, specifically, non-avian dinosaurs. The reasons are spoilery, but as a rule, while some prehistoric critters extinct in OUR Earth may be present in Urvara, it doesn't necessarilly mean they have a werebeast counterpart, and vice versa. Every beastfolk you see here no longer exist in 'modern' Beast Fables time.

Happy New Year 2026!

Well, it's officially 2026 on my end!

I hope that 2026 is going to be a good one for all of you. I just wanted to say thank you all for your support in the year 2025. It's been quite the ride on a personal level.

Beast Fables - Dire Beasts of Urvara

So, finally get to reveal of what I've been working on before the New Year!

A lot of focus is on chimeras for Beast Fables, so I decided to shine a light on Dire Beasts!

For those new, Dire Beasts are essentially animals and creatures born with The Gift much like Chimeras, but instead of borrowing traits from other animals temporarily, they have a permanent transformation that makes them, essentially, a larger, more exaggerated version of themselves.

From orcas to lobsters to whales, a dire beast tend to be very dangerous, and much more aggressive in comparison to their normal color counterparts. For example, the Sandfury, the dire beast form of the bobbit worm, will actively chase after prey when it misses its target the first time.

Meanwhile, on land, while every human being on Urvara is some form of werebeast, complete with the advantages (and occasional disadvantages) of their beast forms, they still share their world with truly formidable dire beasts.

From hornbills with beaks sharper than spears, bears with fur as hard as chainmail, and beetles the size of pigs, wild dire beasts make life quite difficult for the average landlubber, frequently outmuscling and outsizing people even in beast form.

Even 'small' dire beasts are dangerous. For example, the Tlahuele, dire hummingbirds, will not be afraid to aim for the eyes with their spear like beaks.

in the world if beast fables do cities and houses need to accomidate for both human and beast forms? like what happens if a mammoth folk man was sitting on a chair and table made for his human form, and he eats a salad that causes him to turn into his beast form?

Fantastic question! And yes, accomidations are thought about ALL the time in Urvara. It's something I'll probably make a bigger post on, but I have made a sketch on what a tavern/coffee house combination that had that in mind.

Not the two doors for two distinct sizes, one for folks entering in human form, and another for really big patrons, be they were-rhinos or were elephants.

There's always a space to accomodate patrons with large beast forms. Some in the form of larger tables and benches that reflect that forrm, but usually people sit on a carpeted floor and enjoy a meal together, usually with a bowl to wash their hands if needed.

Usually, a patron will inform a patron what their catalyst is, and get the option to get a 'human' sized table, or one that fits their beast forms better.

Here's an example I just sketched right now. Usually if there's a table specifically made for large patrons in their beast forms, the tables are made of tough material, like stone or particularly strong wood like oak, with the best usually coming from the wood of a dire tree (though in certain cultures, this practice would be considered taboo).

Cushions meanwhile can be stuffed with anything from straw, to feathers of dire chickens, geese or specially bred plants like certain cotton breeds.

"there is no way you're not using chatgpt for at least a few things here and there no matter your stance on it" what the FUCK are you talking about

Seriously though, the way people use this and not try to find sources for themselves via simply googling has been one of the saddest developments imaginable.

Silly Shipping Opinions (probably my only ones)

Growing up around fandoms where shipping discourse can get ultra giga intense, shipping in general kinda terrifies me, but I hope this is at least funny.

It's kinda fascinating how this year I went into a theatre three times watching films that made me go from confidently "this can be purely platonic if you think about it" to "oh wow, fans gotta point hot dang".

Wildehopps is obvious, they had chemistry since the first movie and the second just added fuel to that fire, but he other two I was shocked how well they worked if you view it that way, ESPECIALLY after seeing some GREAT fanart.

Of the three, only DekThia is the one I'm still leaning more toward platonic, but the fan art of the two has been immaculate.

Tbh this is the healthy way to think of shipping. The sprinkles on top.

That's a great way of putting it! For me at least, shipping is like the cherry on top, while the rest of the cake or sundae is all about the story, characters and/or world the characters live in.

Dinovember 2025: Little King

A young Tyrannosaurus takes matters into his own hands after one too many raids by Nanotyrannuses whenever his parents go out for a hunt.

The nano, older and more experienced, was not expecting the youngling to be THIS strong at such a young age.

"What on earth are they feeding you?!"

"I AM FED ON A DIET OF BEING EXTEREMELY ANGRY" said the T.rex calmly.

Na'vi vs Yautja

A quick drawing!

Tusk, a Young Blood of great size and strength even by Yautja standards faces off against Lukan, a violent and wrathful Na'vi of the Tipani Clan.

Tusk prefers being patient, letting his prey tire themselves out before using his full strength to bear. His favorite weapons are a serrated shield and maul. Has a strong sense of honor, and prefers to REALLY mirror the prey he's hunting or fighting with.

Lukan is bloodthirsty, unusually so for a child of Eywa. He's SO prone to choosing violence as the first option, other members of the Tipani clan view him with distate. Problem is, he's also TALL and strong by Na'vi standards, and can usually outmuscle anything that gets in his way...

Well... until this day.

A Yautja on Darwin IV

A young Yautja with little sense, much courage and a rather flexible interpretation of 'honorable' hops off his ship to personally take down an Eosapien, because he REALLY wants that giant skull.

The Eosapien meanwhile just wants to crush this guy like a bug for interrupting his OWN hunt.

Meanwhile, his gramps, the clan elder, is probably kind of confused and/or horrified that his grandson might have learned the WRONG things about the Yautja way of the hunt.
