What do you think of the most recent referendum? Do you think that if australians hadn't just been told repeatedly to "vote no" without any context, then there might have been a different outcome?

Aboriginal people werent asking for much at all for the record, they werent asking to usurp the PM, they were pretty much requesting a glroified advisory position. I don't understand how so many people voted no.

(sidenote: my apology for earlier probably means nothing to you, but I offer it all the same)

I think it’s unfortunate that the referendum was rejected, but I don’t feel qualified to speak to the political strategy side of things. I don’t entirely understand why so many people voted no either. I think it probably speaks to a lot of voters not really understanding it, as you say, but that’s kind of surface – after all, sometimes people vote yes for good things that they don’t understand, so it’s clearly not a pure problem of low information voters; that’s sort of a constant. The idea that steps taken to secure the rights of indigenous peoples are tantamount to giving those groups “special privileges” not afforded others is weirdly sticky and persuasive, I think? I’ve certainly seen the same thing in the US with regard to tribal sovereignty. But as for how to actually combat that, it’s a tough problem that I just don’t really have any particular insight on, sorry.

Iron Man 3 Masterlist

A Bond to Last Lifetimes (ao3) - MysticWolfShadows steve/tony, happy/pepper, bucky/natasha, clint/darcy G, 51k

Summary: A soulmate is the perfect match. Perfect in every way. One touch, and the souls mesh together, bonding two people together in mind and spirit. It was sacred, especially in the 1940’s, when people began to find soulmates who had met many times, in previous lives. One such pair is Steve Rogers and Antonio Carbonell. And Steve is happy with his new found bond, but things get strange when Steve wakes up in the 21st century.

All These Things I've Said (ao3) - Dr_Amuly steve/tony M, 5k

Summary: When Tony starts talking in a language Steve can't understand--the language of science--Steve figures he'll retaliate with a little foreign language knowledge of his own. Only once he starts speaking French around Tony, Steve finds that sometimes it's easier to say what he really wants to say to Tony in a language he can't understand.

Good thing Tony doesn't know French.

Daisy Stark (ao3) - Catharina2003 natasha/daisy N/R, 19k

Summary: Skye/Daisy has a secret. She is not an orphan, but the daughter of Tony Stark.

Darling, It's Going To Be Okay (ao3) - Anonymous pepper/tony M, 50k

Summary: “How sure are you?”

“What–”

“How sure are you that he’s mine?”

Just when Tony thinks he and Pepper are now in a good place to start a relationship, she told him her biggest secret.

Fractured from the Fall (ao3) - mollykakes darcy/steve, pepper/tony, jane/thor T, 50k

Summary: Darcy Lewis is not, exactly, who she says she is. Yes, she was a Culver student before the Thor incident, but before that she was a CalTech graduate who'd been home-schooled since the age of 5 by her father's AI. Since her father became Iron Man, her life has only become more surreal, what with alien gods landing in New Mexico and all. So sitting through the latest Stark misadventure with her grandpa and his recently defrosted WW2 buddy didn't actually seem too strange to her.

(An alternative universe where Howard Stark survived the car accident and Darcy is Tony's adult daughter)

From The Top (ao3) - lucifersfavoritechild (ladybitter) tony/stephen M, 156k

Summary: “Stephen, if you’re . . . there somewhere . . . when I drift off, I’ll be with you again. I can’t wait.”

|| Personally, I think the MCU would be much better as a love story between Stephen Strange and Tony Stark. Don't you?

Starting from Iron Man, and going all the way to Endgame, with all the appropriate stops in between. Let's take it from the top.

From Where We Began (ao3) - orphan_account steve/tony M, 42k

Summary: When Steve returns the stones he knows he is going to stay in 2012. This is the only chance he has. He can do better there. He knows what he needs to change so when Thanos comes, he and Tony are standing side by side. The only thing he didn't plan on was confronting his own feelings for Tony Stark.

(Or the fix it fic where Steve arrives in 2012 and tries to rewrite MCU canon in order to save Tony Stark).

It’s A Better Place Since You Came Along (ao3) - Ashleyparker2815 N/R, 88k

Summary: Tony Stark had never been the type of person to become a father. With all of his drinking, partying, sleeping around and bad habits, he just wasn’t the type to raise a child. That was until he found out he had a son and then everything changed.

Mister Fixit and the Mechanic (ao3) - Mizzy steve/tony M, 40k

Summary: An Iron Man 3 AU, wherein Steve was defrosted too early, and after a couple of lonely decades working for SHIELD, decides to retire and run a hardware store called Mister Fixit’s in suburban Miami.

Tony Stark, presumed dead, presumed not-Iron Man, needs to make some weapons to take on the Mandarin’s mansion. A non-chain store that takes cash and doesn’t ask questions is just what Tony needs.

Steve becomes intrigued by the mysterious mechanic that keeps buying things from his store, but when he becomes more aware of what Tony the Mechanic is up to, is Steve ready to be this close to the world of superheroes again?

Our little Family (ao3) - PurpleLikeTheLastColourOfTheRainbow harley/peter, may/ben G, 41k

Summary: What if Peter and Tony met a little earlier? What if Tony was there for Peter after Uncle Ben's death — not as Iron Man, but as someone who understood grief, loss, and how it breaks a kid apart? What if May, desperate and scared, asked Tony Stark for help... and he said yes? What if Peter got to grow up at the Avengers Tower — surrounded by tech, heroes, and a genius who slowly became more than a mentor — a real father figure? ---- aka a fiel trip fic without the fiel trip lmao

potato guns and repulsers (ao3) - gossamernotes pepper/tony G, 7k

Summary: Harley Keener was four when his dad left.

Five when Tony Stark became Iron Man.

And ten when said superhero broke into his garage and demanded a sandwich.

Life, after that, was never the same.

[The story wherein Harley Keener thinks over his life and watches where it goes after he meets the one and only, Tony Stark. It doesn't really go the way he planned.]

Priorities (ao3) - JLMonroe1234 N/R, 149k

Summary: Tony had been in the cave for a month. Waiting. Planning. Healing. Biding his time until his creation would be ready and durable enough to get him home. With Yinsen's help and Tony's expertise, he would save them both.

But when an injured teenager is brought into the mix, Tony must reevaluate his priorities and decide what's more important; a speedy escape, or rescuing the boy with the spider tattoo?

Rebuild (ao3) - Anonymous steve/tony, pepper/tony T, 10k

Summary: the one where Tony is, for the first time in his life, one of the least screwed up members of the team.

scenes from our mansion, after the war (ao3) - avocadomoon pepper/tony T, 3k

Summary: "Apologies, madam," says JARVIS, "but both you and Mr. Stark made me promise to prevent you from being one of 'those couples.'"

Snow Has Friz Me (But I'm Still Here) (ao3) - some1_around ot6 N/R, 3k

Summary: Five times Tony Stark hated snow and one time he thought it might just be his (second) favorite thing in the world.

The entire city shuts down. Roads are closed. Windows are boarded. Every available blanket is gathered.

Overnight, the grey city that never sleeps turns white and not a sound can be heard.

Tony Stark Has a Heart (ao3) - Musiclover712 G, 2k

Summary: An Analyzation of Tony Stark’s biggest fear and how his actions are reflected from it throughout Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Avengers, Iron Man 3, Avengers 2, and even Captain America: Civil War.

Tony Stark's Daughter (ao3) - ponyosmom35 peter/ofc T, 80k

Summary: Maddie Stark is the only child of Tony Stark and like him she is a genius, she has been raised alongside the Avengers who have given her a family and shown her control. When the most important people in her life turn against each other she finally meets someone her own age, the Spiderman.

Watching- Iron Man 3 (ao3) - orphan_account pepper/tony G, 26k

Summary: Up Next- Iron Man 3

We all create the thing we dread. What happens when one of Tony Starks past mistakes starts catching up with him? Is Tony really okay after New York? The Avengers and Co watch as Tony battles his demons on two fronts.

I really wish people would understand that there is a vast gulf of cultural difference between “nomadic ethnic groups” and “ethnic groups which are not and have never been nomadic, but which were repeatedly violently expelled”

The Saami people are nomadic. The Buryats are nomadic. Uyghurs are not. Jews are not. Many Native American groups, including the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Creek are not. This distinction may seem small and academic but it is absolutely vital to understanding modern day conflicts involving these groups.

Some cultures are itinerant, with physical movement from place to place as an inherent part of their identity. Some cultures were violently displaced, with a cultural identity that carries the scars of being forced to relocate, against their will. It is victim blaming of the highest order to treat the second type as though it is the first.

neither are the Palestinians, for the record. Also, there have definitely been groups that have been Jewish and have also been expelled from their lands. Note that the Zionists currently residing in Palestine share no DNA indicative of this fact.

also Judaism is a religion and although its traditions and beliefs are usually devoutly passed down through the women of the family, its entirely possible to convert to Judaism and since you can't change to an ethnicity Judaism is not an eth- oh, shit, you aren't ready for that conversation, sorry I forgot

Hey several things:

1) I have literally never in my fucking life heard anyone claiming that Palestinians were nomadic, even like, diehard anti-Palestinian genocidal lunatics who openly say that they want to turn Gaza into a parking lot. Either you hang out in much darker, wackier circles of the internet than I do, or else you are simply derailing the fuck out of a post that was primarily about academic racism against Native Americans

2) Seeing as you also went off on fucking “Zionist DNA”, a thing which has literally nothing to do with the racism inherent in categorizing groups like eg. the Cherokee as “nomadic” it’s actually pretty clearly it’s Option #2.

3) Also, given that, again, this post was mostly about Native Americans and only very briefly mentioned Judaism at all, I would tread especially fucking carefully about that crossed out bit at the end there, because that sure fucking sounds like you are trying to used Judaism in order to backdoor your way into supporting the blood quantuming of Native Americans on the basis of ethnicity being somehow genetic, which is some colonial bullshit, actually

and 4) …ok level with me here, are you actually a Khazar myth conspiracy theorist??? Because the whole “Zionists have no Jewish DNA” thing sure sounds like some Khazar myth conspiracy theory bs, and if I can be real with you, as batshit conspiracies go, the Khazar myth is like, somewhere between “Fomenko’s new chronology” and “hollow moon”. Like. Obviously there’s a lot that you just shat out here that is very racist, and there’s a lot that is especially racist to put on a post that was mostly racism against Native Americans merely because that post also briefly mentioned the existence of Jews. But like. Be so real with me right now, do you actually believe in the fucking Khazar myth conspiracy theory??? Like fr fr??? What are your thoughts on the moon landing, if you don’t mind me asking? Do you think that the Earth is flat? How about Qanon? Sorry if these questions seem intrusive but I’m just so fascinated to see one of these people who’s deep into a conspiracy this dumb in the wild lmao

I actually was not aware at all that this post had anything to do with native Americans (i thought you were using them as an example in support of justifying zionism by saying that jews were an ethnic group expelled from their land), and I don't follow your profile, I also admittedly have no idea what a Khazar myth is lmao, I didn't talk about Zionist DNA, that said, I'm personally sorry for misinterpreting your post. My feed has lately been cluttered with Zionist junk, and I mistook you for another user who is pro-israel.

Im not even going to criticise your response for being "overly defensive", because I went on the defensive first.

Genuinely sorry though. If you want me to delete that response, ok, but I don't want to seem like im just deleting my mistakes.

You don't know what the Khazar myth is but you wanna talk about Jewish ethnicity and indigeneity with such self-satisfied condescension. Sit the fuck down.

You were so consumed by the need to be a vocal performative antizionist that you leapt onto this post to smugly talk down to someone because you thought their post MIGHT have been Zionist in nature and now you want to pull this uwu I'm so sowwy I just thought you were a dirty hateful zio weh shit?

There was NOTHING """"defensive"""" about the things you said, you came in guns blazing.

Consider learning LITERALLY ANYTHING about Jews before you open your mouth to speak about us again. Fuck off.

im not lying when I say I literally never get anything about native Americans in my feed (im not even american) and that i get a lot of stuff about the Palestine-Israel conflict. So yes, I did instantly assume that this was a post talking about how modern jews all belong to a specific ethnic group as justification for colonisation. I came in guns blazing because I was already so used to actual Zionists coming into my feed and saying the most untrue shit about the conflict.

You dont get to tell me to fuck off, you yourself are condescending.

Anyways, I still am actually sorry to OP who was the person I was asking for forgiveness from (not you if that wasn't clear)

Hey, I’m OP, and you can take your fake ass apology and shove it up your real ass.

“Wah I don’t get much about anti-Native American racism in my feed–”

Whose fault is that

Whose FUCKING fault is that

The only algorithm on tumblr is the stupid “for you” page that no one uses. If you’re only getting things about Israel/Palestine in your feed, it’s because you’re only following people who make everything about Israel/Palestine. If you’re not getting anything about anti-Native racism and colonialism in the Americas, it’s because you’re not following Native American bloggers or even non-Native bloggers like myself who have Native friends or otherwise care enough to talk about issues of Native rights.

Do you know why I made this post in the first place? It was because in the lead up to Thanksgiving, I was talking to an out-of-town family member who made a really tasteless if well-meaning off-hand comment about “nomadic” groups whose identity “isn’t tied to any one place” and when I pressed, I realized that basically all of the groups this family member thought that applied to were groups that it absolutely did not. Which, I’ll be honest? Hit me kind of fucking hard given the season. I’m not Native myself, but I do actually make an effort to educate myself about Native issues, and I’m sorry but hearing someone casually refer to “nomadic peoples” and specifically name Jews, Uyghurs, and “Native Americans” (note: not any specific Native American group, as though every pre-Columbian civilization in all of the Americas is a fucking monolith) in a conversation which started as a discussion about fucking Thanksgiving plans??? Yeah, that’s fucked enough that I felt needed to actually say something about it, and not just to the relative in question.

I want to be clear that I don’t think I’m a perfect ally here. Check the threads that this post spawned, and you’ll quickly see the ways that the original was lacking: my focus on non-nomadic groups leaves off the ways in which forced sedentary colonization is also a form of displacement; there is some important historical context with regards to Saami rights and self-identification specifically that I was simply unaware of; perhaps most egregiously, I neglected to mention Roma, who are the ethnic group that this horrible conflation has been perhaps most applied to, to the point that the slur “gypsy” is literally used by people to mean nomadic, despite the ethnic group in question not being.

But fuck, man, at least I’m trying, which is so much more than you can say for yourself in this moment. I made this post because, having taken active steps to learn about and learn from minority communities other than my own, I saw an injustice and knew enough to recognize it as such. You, in contrast, apparently fill your feed with nothing but fucking Israel/Palestine ragebait, and so when you saw a post talking about a real injustice, your only and immediate assumption was that it was about fucking Zionism.

I’ll ask again:

Whose fault is that?

And then, you have the fucking gall to do a little innocent helpless dance?? “Genuinely sorry” and all, but let me first just lay out how this was a total normal and reasonable mistake, and wasn’t even really my fault, it was my feed’s fault, and I don’t have any control over how I curate that or who I listen to or what issues I give a rat’s ass about – hey have I performed the right motions for deleting my post to still feel like accountability yet???

“Im not even going to criticize your post for being ‘overly defensive’–”

Well good because it FUCKING WASN’T, and frankly, you can take your passive-aggressive condescending bullshit and shove it right up your ass too.

Fuck you, truly and sincerely. I hope the corner of tumblr you’ve apparently curated for yourself is exactly as much of a miserable tarpit as it sounds like it is.

What the fuck? Did you not read what I wrote? I am an Arab Muslim, so of course my feed is filled with what is happening to my people. Why do you expect me to be educated on native Americans WHEN IM NOT EVEN FROM THE US? USAmericans seriously think theyre the centre of the fucking universe. I'm sorry if you dont use your for you page, but I do. I'm apologising for a genuine mistake THAT I MADE. I didnt even delete my original response because I wanted you to know I wasn't trying to hide my mistake. I put overly defensive in quotation marks BECAUSE I WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT I DONT THINK YOURE BEING OVERLY DEFENSIVE.

I'm owning up to a dumb mistake that I've made and you're mad at me for it.

I will redirect you to the VERY NEXT REBLOG in the chain:

Stow the “I’m not American so I shouldn’t need to care” bs. If I can care about the minorities in places where I don’t live, so can you. Grow the fuck up.

I dont think you understand how many minorities there are in the world. Uyghur Muslims, Hindus in places that aren't India, Indigenous Australians, Pacific Islanders, Jews in places that aren't Israel, the Amish or the Mormons, Black people in the US, native tribes of Africa that remain separate from each other, etc. I focus on the ones closest to me as an Arab Muslim living in Aus: Pacific Islander people, Indigenous Australians, Palestinians, Uyghur Muslims, and so on and so forth. I dont research a lot about Native Americans, because I'm sorry, but I'm not educated about every repressed or oppressed minority in the world. I definitely dont get many posts about them on tumblr, and I've never really seen that as an issue. Zionist posts do keep invading my feed using certain rhetoric to do with land rights and expulsion, and I (foolishly) thought that this was one of those posts. I actually, genuinely, apologise, and I will delete my original post when or if you ask me to. Perhaps you dont believe my apology, and I definitely dont expect one from you since you've done nothing wrong, to clarify, but I did want to apologise all the same.

“Zionist posts do keep invading my feed–”

My dude my guy–

TUMBLR DOES NOT HAVE AN ALGORITHM

YOU control WHO YOU FOLLOW

And if you are CHOOSING to use the “for you” page instead of actually following people like a normal tumblr user, then you are still making a choice, and that choice is to abdicate your responsibility for curating your own experience, specifically in order to stew in algorithmic ragebait. You CHOSE THAT.

You keep putting on this air of like, genuinely bizarre learned helplessness and then acting like that’s a reason that people should pity you for stepping in it and uh

Nah, bro. That’s actually the opposite of what people should do? I’m not saying that you need to know about every conflict in the entire world, but if you – an Arab Muslim living in Australia – are seeing so many Zionist posts and by your own admission zero posts by any Native bloggers from any of the Americas, to the point that your default assumption is that a post that explicitly mentions four different Native American tribes by name must be about Zionism rather than being about Native Americans, then like… bro, that’s on you??? You literally chose to follow those people, or else to not follow anyone and just let an algorithm feed you low quality engagement bait. You made that choice. Tumblr didn’t make it for you. Tumblr isn’t forcing you to follow people, and the only posts it’s putting on your actual dash apart from people you follow are blazed posts, which aren’t that common are 9 times out of 10 just like, independent artists, or people who want to show strangers photos of their cat.

I’m not saying you need to follow Native American bloggers – obviously you don’t! You get to curate your own experience! But I am saying that if you did, you probably wouldn’t have shown your entire fucking ass, and I think it’s telling that you think that “I don’t follow enough people from this group to know any better” is somehow a defense of your actions when you say something racist by accident, rather than a damning indictment.

Like I do in fact follow more than zero blogs that talk about indigenous rights in Australia. But let’s say that I didn’t. If I hopped on some post that specifically named the Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara, and Yankunytjatjara and derailed the fuck out of it in order to, idk, make some point about Venezuela, or something? How reasonable would it be in that situation for me to claim that I had no idea the post was about indigenous groups in Australia? And what would you think if I then came out and claimed that “oh but I’m not Australian and I don’t follow any Australians, and I see lots of stuff about the current crisis in Venezuela, so obviously I assumed it was that”???

I appreciate your instinct to apologize, genuinely, and this last iteration even seems sincere to me. But I frankly can’t accept that apology in good conscience, because even now you seem unwilling or unable to admit to the actual reasons why what you did was wrong.

I'm sorry but I'm not exactly a veteran when it comes to tumblr. I don't even have other social media accounts (this is my first), and I established this account (fairly) recently. I genuinely thought using the for you page was the norm, seeing as it is literally called the for you page. im not trying to be a boomer. this is not learned helplessness. I made a mistake about what your post was about, then got overly defensive. All my apologies were sincere, because I believe shame and apology should be an instinct when you wrong someone in an interaction. I've wronged you by assuming you were a zionist, and making an addition to your post that might make other people believe the same (which is why ive offered to remove it and i prbly will anyways but i wont if you tell me not to).

i wasnt trying to derail, I was trying to respond without knowing that that wasn't what your post was about at all. its hard to convey sincerity online, but I have been sincere this whole time.

Note* I am aware that judaism is passed down through the mother (idk if thats the wrong phrasing) and that conversion is made very difficult. I still dont know what khazar theory is after searching it up, but from what i do understand, i dont think i agree with it. i was making a point about how there doesnt seem to be a lot of shared dna between israeli jews, and that there isnt between palestinian jews and israeli jews. if you dont believe that's true, then ignore me. im just trying to clarify what i was saying earlier.

If you're not educated on Native Americans because you're not an American, you can just admit that. Just admit "oh I didn't know that" and then sit down and listen instead of a defensive, antisemitic ass.

Avatar

So, you clearly didnt read the whole thread. That's fine. I'm not a USAmerican, and I dont know a bunch about Native Americans, and I dont get anything about them in my feed, which is how I use tumblr. I thought the post was justifying zionist settlement BY USING native Americans and uyghurs etcetera. Because whilst I do not get a lot of stuff about Native Americans, I do get a lot of Zionist bots in my feed. It was a misunderstanding on my part, and I admitted that, and apologised three times, and as far as I can see, you (who had nothing to do with that) are bringing this up again as a question in my blog, not for answers, but as an excuse to call me a "defensive, antisemitic ass". Which, in case this hasn't been made clear already, I am not.

You know those pet peeves you have about subjects that you barely know anything about, but nonetheless you know just enough about it to be annoyed by the overconfident opinions of people who clearly know even less about it than you do?

Let's take fashion history. I want to bite someone in the face every time I hear someone compare the long-term damage and permanent injury caused by wearing corsets, to the long-term damage and permanent injury caused by foot binding.

Like bitch shut the fuck up, what the hell are you doing writing articles about the history of anything if that's the level of basic knowledge you have? It is possible to wear a corset so incorrectly that it causes serious, irreversible and permanent damage, or even death. With footbinding, causing irreversible and permanent damage is the entire goal. Crushing the feet in a way where they cannot be unfucked without breaking them up all over again is literally the point.

You're comparing the kind of injury caused by being insanely bad at wearing a bra, to the kind of injury caused by someone folding your socks while you're still wearing them.

A videogame where your character plays a trumpet, and you can either play it as a rhythm game where you need to hit all the notes right in the exact right order in order to be such a lovely musician that people will let you do whatever you want. Or you need to figure out how to play it so badly that you can use it as a noise weapon. There's a skill tree.

Some time when I was like 16 or 17, I had some sort of psychiatric person talking sessions (shoddy memory of that time in my life) and I noticed the words "intellectualises feelings" in my notes, and I asked what that means and how do I stop doing that. Like give me constructive criticism to explain what I'm doing wrong and how to do it better instead.

And this bitch went "oh there's no bad or wrong way to feel or think, just personality quirks, nothing bad or wrong :)" and I was like ok whatever that means is just some quirk I have as a person and not a psychological issue I could or should be working on.

At 19 I attempted suicide because I had calmly and rationally come to the conclusion that there's nothing wrong with me, life is just really supposed to be that hard all the time and that I no longer want to keep trying hard enough, so I'm just going to quit. Just opting out of being alive because I had my free trial and didn't like it.

It's still a pet peeve of mine when I'm aware that I'm doing something wrong, and ask people what I do wrong and ask them for guidance on how to do it right, and they lie to my face about nothing being wrong.

I think one of my favourite trends in history is when two very different but somewhat equally footed cultures meet and get mutually delighted by this New And Exotic Thing that's now briefly insanely fashionable. Like oh wow you have fancy textiles I have never seen? Let me seeeee. Tradies for this kind that we have here? Yeah this pattern depicts these ornamental garden pets that we- oh you don't have those? Would you like one? I love how you used that new kind of feather for that thing that you usually use for traditional feather decor. I am wearing Your Type Of Hat as a fashion statement with my outfit.

I know that there's always bleak and boring geopolitical bullshit going on with every interaction between cultures, but I do still think it's fun when two completely different cultures mutually decide that this one they just met is now Highly Fashionable, and swap everything from art subjects and methods to clothing styles and delicacies, like a giddy mutual girl crush or friendly cats rubbing their faces to each other in order to match their scent.

Also, Saffron Sex sounds like the artist name of a nepo baby artist who has a spectacularly outrageous fashion sense but whose music is tragically dogshit.
