HI!

I like bees! We had a pet bee when we were younger, though we barely remember it. They're so fluffy! We dressed Chair as a bee during Halloween.

i am happy to say that they are infact as fluffy as they look :D

bunblebees in particular are very fluffy cus they live in colder conditions, in fact, most of the bees that are in like Norway and Sweden are bumblebees! I think, alpinobombus is really everywhere up north in europe

Our main special interest is chickens, but we do really love cats! Our big brother and little sister are cats!

Honestly, I wish there were like, cat sized bees. I want to hug them but they're small and I might hurt them :(

Did you know silkies were originally bred by Chinese royalty?

With the fancy looking ones, I can believe it, but Chair looks like a ball of lint.

The mental image of some Chinese royal with Chair on their lap is just ridiculous.

chickens and cars!!

I have both in my camera roll :D

These guys are from hawaii! I found them near a coffee plantation

And these guys are probably from texas, I think? Neither me nor my phone remember where they're from, all I remember is they they were from a zoo/snake house :D, mighta been from Pennsylvania or New York....

as for cats, I have two of my own!!

Ron, the one with one braincell, and hermionie! Aka the one with two braincells (named before we knew about jkr and at that point it had been like 5 years or so)

:D

Official bee in a chicken costume post 🐝

Thinking about that day another park ranger and I discovered that

1. we both used the same shampoo and

2. Suave Essentials Tropical Coconut drives honeybees absolutely bugfuck wild

3. He's allergic to bees

It’s likely the scent! Banana scent (Isoamyl acetate) is the same scent as the aggression pheromone bees put out when they’re angry. Never eat bananas near bees! Always check your lotion, sunscreen, etc bottles for banana scent or isoamyl acetate before going near bees

So you're telling me that when bees get mad they start violently smelling like bananas?

Can confirm! In (hopefully) very rare cases, a large hive full of pissed off bees smells a lot like bananas! Usually there’s not nearly enough of them for humans to be able to smell it, though.

@cyber-flow thank you for the funniest tags I've seen all day.

[ID: a digital drawing of a bee with boxing gloves, fighting a sad and confused (and bruised) looking banana. The banana asks "why?" /end ID].

[ID: a screenshot of two tags, reading: you could say - you could say that they go bananas. /end ID].

I think this'd pique your interest if you didn't know already.

β€œdon’t eat honey because it exploits the bees and they can’t consent!!!” bees are literally unionized and will walk out if they don’t like being in the beekeeper’s hives

It's true.

I worked with a beekeeper (not at beekeeping, guy had a day job as a machinist and kept bees as a side thing). One day there was a swarm in the parking lot and people were freaking out because, y'know, BEES EVERYWHERE. Beekeeper guy went to his truck. Pulled a swarm-catching box out. Put it on the ground and walked away. Bees went in the box after a while. Guy put the box back in his truck and drove home with them.

You cannot prevent bees from leaving a hive they don't like the conditions of, without also preventing them from being able to make honey. The latter is dependent on them being able to come and go as they please. If they don't like their hive THEY WILL LEAVE.

Beekeeping is probably the single most non-exploitative animal agriculture in the entirety of human history. I don't know how it's even possible to exploit bees. They answer only to their queen.

They absolutely do not answer to the queen. If she sucks they will kill her and make a new one.

We could learn a lot from bees

Official unionised hive post!

this digger bee (Amegilla sp.) was using its tongue to poke at a flower for which adjectives such as "old" and "dry" feel too generous, with something like "mummified" being more appropriate. no pollen or nectar could have possibly been found on those crusty leathery remains, so i'm not sure what its objective was
