Affectionate warning: this is a multi-fandom blog, and always has been.

At any given time, I can probably be found posting about M*A*S*H, The West Wing, Star Trek, and whatever else I'm watching at the moment.

Things pretty much always cycle back into style around here, so I can't make any promises on consistent content, but I'm really bad at actually ever leaving fandoms, so if I've ever posted about something, I'm probably still posting about it.

Does anyone want to talk about how I'm pretty sure the exact same score plays during the scene in "Evidence of Things Not Seen" where CJ manages to stand the egg on end (in an episode that's all about her faith in people, and the right thing) AND in the part of "Institutional Memory" where she shows up at Danny's door at last, choosing him?

Because I think about that a lot.

thanks to @kinardnatural for reccing Feet on the Ground, Head in the Sky, so as a thanks, I'm sharing a bit of chapter six (written, but needs editing):

β€œUh, listen, I never said thanks. For being here.” He looks up, meeting Tommy’s gaze, as Tommy’s expression softens. β€œEvan. Of course.” β€œObviously you have better things to do on a Saturday.” β€œNo, not really,” Tommy says, and then looks like he regrets it. β€œAlso, to be fair, you did bribe me to come.” β€œI guess I did, didn’t I?” Tommy nods, pointing at him as he follows Buck back down the hall to the living room. β€œAnd don’t think I don’t plan to collect.” β€œSure.” The furniture in the living room is – thankfully – already covered. Buck notices how Tommy notices, and when Tommy catches him looking, he just smiles. β€œYou really have thought of everything.” β€œEverything except how long it would take to paint this place. We’re definitely not getting it all done today, are we?” β€œOh, not a chance,” Tommy says with a laugh. β€œBut you’ve got me all weekend.” β€œReally?” β€œReally. My next shift isn’t until Monday.” β€œWell, uh…” Buck can’t help himself, his eyes briefly flickering to Tommy’s lips even as his higher brain function screams at him that Tommy in fact has a boyfriend already. β€œMaybe I can bribe you to come back again tomorrow?” β€œWhat’s on the table?” β€œBrunch with me and the Grants. Ravi too.” Tommy grins. β€œSold.”

I think i've said this before, and it's been true across MULTIPLE fandoms tbh because it's apparently just a pervasive thing.

but nothing, and I do mean nothing, turns me off a ship faster than its shippers bashing other ships.

Tell me what's great about your ship, not everything you dislike about other ships! Tell me why you love these characters together, not why you hate those other characters together!

Otherwise, it just comes off as mean. And I'm shipping to have fun.

β˜•οΈ + how do you think the west wing dwelt with pstd after 2.1 and 2.2? Like not just Josh but all the characters? Handled well or just forgotten about?

Ehhhh.

Disclaimer that I don't have PTSD. But the show generally tends to kind of brush things off after an episode or two when that trauma probably should've lingered longer (I've had friends talk about this more in-depth!).

Second disclaimer that while I'm sure Noel is a great representation of what having PTSD is like, I never watch it because it basically is shot/produced in a way that sends me into an anxiety attack every time I try and watch (it's an episode about ptsd for people who don't have nervous conditions already lol).

All that being said... I really wish we'd gotten more beyond the first two or three episodes of season 2. We have the president tell Toby that it was a lynching, and that's why it "feels that way." We obviously have CJ in the hours after the attack having a blank period of time in her memory. We have Charlie distancing himself from Zoey... but this is all mostly dropped within two or three episodes. I wish we'd gotten more.

(A great opportunity for trauma talk would've been in season 3 with one of the agents at Rosslyn being on the show!!)

So I guess I'd say when it's brought up, it's handled well, but sometimes it's not brought up when it could be?

Thank you <3

Oh it's been ages since I've done anything for MASH lol (😭)

Okay this is a very simple one: when it comes to Margaret's "old friend' love interests, I think she has way more chemistry with Lorraine Anderson in season 6 than Helen Whitfield in season 9.

Justice for my girl Lorraine!!

hey, did you know that the world is a better place because of your creations and art and writing, no matter how niche or how many people see it

give your characters exes.

give them a variety of exes. give them relationships that shaped who they are but did not last. give them people they tried very hard to love but it didn't work out. give them situationships that taught them things. give them something deep that was real but could not endure. things that hurt. things that ended amicably. people with whom hot passion cooled to warm affection and became undying friendship.

no more first and only. give me the context of what made them know the next or one after was final and right.

β˜•οΈ Favorite TWW season or episode/episodes?

Overall my favourite season is probably season 1. Season 2 IS very good, and the MS arc is IMMACULATE, but season 1 is actually the best to me.

There's just this very hopeful-yet-realistic vibe to it, and the stakes are overall pretty low, like the weekly plots rotate around things like riders being attached to bills, and bill signings, and work trips, plus a few things that make a very interesting overall arc.

Like the stagnation arc that culminates in Let Bartlet be Bartlet? Immaculate. Danny being the one to break the memo story? Artful.

And yeah, okay part of the reason i love season 1 is because I am a Danny girl (not quite to the level I'm a CJ girl, but I love that man), and half of his appearances in the whole show are in season 1. I'll admit it.

But there's just such good narrative juice. The MS reveal. Them trying to find their footing. CJ's personal-versus-professional arc. Speaking truth to power. THEE best christmas episode (argue with the wall, because it is. Noel who?). Charlie and Zoey, which of course ends with one of the best finales of the show (the truth is, if the show does one thing perfectly ALMOST every season, it's the finales. But What Kind of Day has it Been? is right up there). Leo's alcoholism and the fact that it's literally not even the worst scandal.

It's also very funny. Woot canaw. "I don't understand, did you trip over something?". Gail the goldfish. Secret plan to fight inflation.

The only like, negative I'd claim is Mandy, and not even because I hate Mandy, but because so much of the time she's disconnected from the main narrative of the show, like they didn't know what to do with her, which is frustrating. Other than that? Poignant. Witty. Hopeful realism.

If I had to pick a top 5, like absolutely had to narrow it to five:

  1. He Shall, from time to time...
  2. Take Out the Trash Day
  3. The Short List
  4. What Kind of Day has it been?
  5. Crackpots and These Women

But also In Excelsis Deo, and Celestial Navigation, and Enemies, and The State Dinner- you get my point!

β˜•οΈ - any TWW ship of your choosing?

Avatar

i will keep this short, sweet, and non-controversial, bc I have many MANY thoughts about shipping but I also have a deep desire to not have anyone mad at me. lol.

I do NOT like any of the Leo ships very much. Him and Jordon are okay, but I don't really see their chemistry most of the time, and I am very much against Annabeth/Leo. You know that scene where she's like "because of the tension" and Leo goes "what tension?" Yeah. That's me.

An intergenerational friendship there could've been lovely but then they had to make it weird and quasiromantic and I just don't see it.

I guess the one I like best, in a non canon sense is Leo/Jed, or Jed/Leo/Abbey, but mostly only the kiss in Gunmen, or that scene that looks like they're inviting him to a President's weekend threesome.

β˜•οΈ - you know I love to hear you talk about The Leak?

😈 oh look, the hill i'm dying on! Right where I left it!

Much digital ink has been spilled about this storyline (by you and other people), and it's been probably discussed to death but I don't care because this is my hill. I'm dying on it.

... But I'm still putting it under a cut. haha
