pacific rim fucks severely for a lot of reasons but my favorite is that it opens with "the lizard aliens are unionizing so we built robots running on the power of love to fight them you got all that right" and before you have time to really process that concept bam gunshot body on the floor and the movie goes "now consider the vast power of grief in this setup" it never really stops considering
It also has a scene where the robot uses a boat as a baseball bat. That also fucks tremendously.

his death received little media coverage because it happened when charlie kirk was still on the front pages everywhere, and because silverio was a brown mexican man. like renee, silverio was shot in the back while driving away from agents. dhs immediately claimed he was trying to ram them with his car--like they did to renee.

Gaza has changed us forever. The murder today of a Minneapolis mother by an ice agent is a prime example of the imperial boomerang, colonial violence coming home. Violence became normalized once the genocide started to be live-streamed. If you think Palestine will never impact you, it will, and we saw this today.
What can you do? Most people might recommend contacting representatives or voting but we cannot destroy a system by working within it. As Audre Lorde said “The master’s tools will never will never dismantle the master’s house.”
We need to organize within our communities, and this can start by joining your public library, getting involved with local organizations, and within local government. Learning new skills like gardening and knitting seem silly but are useful in community building and not being fully reliant on corporations.
We will not fix this from behind our screens, we quite literally need to go outside and touch grass.

the entire kusimayu scene was devastating but to me the worst part was that by Joining she not only lost her individuality but her culture died with her. immediately the hivemind stopped chanting and singing and speaking the quechuan language and rolled up their blankets and packed up their things and walked away. the animals were set free and the goat that kusimayu had been cradling so lovingly just minutes earlier chased after the hivemind wearing kusimayu's body and bleated for attention and love and got none because there is no one left to care specifically enough to give it.
