Did you miss the part at the top of the post where I said to let me know (didn’t add nicely but it was implied) if I need to change anyone as I don’t want to piss anyone off. I’m not out here actively trying to whitewash a character. Was never my intention, will never be my intention. It’s not a set in stone list, or casting. It’s for fun and if I’m wrong then I’ll go back and change it. Happily.
Half of the people I chose were suggested names given to me by anons like you. Well not you, but anons nonetheless. I’ve asked for months for people to send me ideas so I could get everyone right. If you have better ideas for Raf, Jackie and Bryce, tell me. And again, I will happily change them.

@genevievemd I am not that anon and I do not condone anon hate in any way at all. If I wanted to come at you sweetie, I’d do it with my whole chest and name attached to it like I am now.
It sucks that you had to be on the receiving end of anon hate that targeted you as a person over an racially incorrect post. That part I do not agree with and I’m sorry that the trolls came for you like that.
However you made a MISTAKE. Own it, apologise and do better. Whitewashing is harmful and it MATTERS to a lot of people like me.
I know you mentioned at the top of the post for your followers to suggest face claims for you to put together and that meant anyone was free to suggest anything. HOWEVER it is still YOUR responsibility to use your autonomy to make sure that the face claims you are choosing from the suggestions are correct/accurate. YOU are responsible for the posts that YOU make. It is not anyone else’s responsibility to educate you on what an accurate representation of a character should be like, even though I am doing it right now.
If you are not sure about something, google is free. Use it like I do with the search terms (characters last name) + etymology. That simple suggestion will allow your to honour the character’s heritage and culture when you are picking your face claims from the models/actors/celebrities from that culture.
To ignore this is BLATANT white washing.
Now that you are informed on how to approach this, I suggest you use it because there are many people who will not take the time to explain this as politely as I just have. In fact I encourage you to keep finding and using face claims as long as they are accurate. If you need any further clarification, my inbox is always open and I’m happy to explain more about this subject.
The heart of the issue is this: Me, as a white woman, will never be touched by this the same way my best friend @the-everlasting-dream is, has been, and will be.
All of us who are white women need to humble ourselves. We do not get to decide what’s offense and what isn’t. We do not get to decide what hurts people. We do not get to put our examples of being wronged above the constant misjudgment, mistreatment, and misrepresentation of our black and brown sisters by every media outlet. It’s not about us. I’ll add to this, because it’s not just "white" women, but rather for anyone who lives within a cultural system that prefers lighter complexions to darker ones.
Don’t pass blame. Don’t be snarky. And don’t pass off responsibility to someone else because they didn’t do your homework for you.
@the-everlasting-dream has helped me choose many face claims (here and in other fandoms/projects) and called me out multiple times for not digging deep enough. I am thankful for this, mostly because it provided us hours of entertainment searching for just the right person, researching names and possible heritages, and diving into full backstories that would never see the light of day, but still made it worth it. It’s the simple act of not giving up on a search because it doesn’t matter to you. It matters to someone, a whole bunch of someones, and when they speak, they deserve to be heard.
Please. Anyone reading this tonight, don’t get it twisted. Intent doesn’t outweighs the effect of our actions. I believe that most people are good and would never want to cause harm to others, but the sad truth of it is this: it’s not enough. When we’ve hurt someone and made mistakes, we admit it and we grow from it. Or we ignore the people who want to tell us something new, proving that our original intent wasn’t as pure as we think.

Katrina craned her neck, scanning the crowd for someone. Liam and Drake were busy hefting suitcases onto the scale as the woman behind the counter checked in each member of their group. Alyssa handed Drake another suitcase down the line, while Mar, Donna, and Tru pushed theirs forward. Katrina’s face lit up and she shot her hand in the air, waving frantically to catch someone’s attention. “Lyss! Lyss! Over here!”
“What’s up, T?” Alyssa adjusted her glasses, peering over at her friend. “I’m right here, you don’t need to shout.”
“Oh,” Katrina exclaimed, sheepishly covering her mouth with one hand. “Oh, this is gonna get confusing,” she added, laughing lightly.

Tru for the first 90% of the story, making Fifth Element jokes and watching all the extroverts be excited about things, and also pointing out how much trouble that lil pilot of ours is.... because that’s the universal sign of a good time.

Author’s Note: Wow. First, I didn’t anticipate this hiatus to have been so long. Second, once I was in it, I didn’t anticipate actually finishing this series. This is me being self deprecating for a hot second, so just, skip ahead or something. The guilt of posting after so long without interacting, without participating in this fandom, without even opening the Choices app in a very long time felt wrong. Leaving this story unfinished when there were some huge supporters and an ending that’s been in my head since April of LAST YEAR, also felt wrong. My compulsive need to finish what I’ve started won out. So if no one is interested in this story anymore, that’s so cool, y’all have better things to do. If you missed the kids as much as I did, this is for you.

“Do you hate me?” He asked, genuine curiosity and concern making his voice sound weak. It occurred to him that if anyone else were standing before him, he’d hate that. Yet...
“I could never hate you, Drake Walker,” she responded. Maybe he knew that. At the very least he hoped that was the case. Maybe that’s why the tone didn’t matter. Nothing mattered. Joanna opened her mouth to ask him the same, but before she could, Drake shook his head no. She looked older, she was, but for a moment Drake saw a flash of her nineteen year old self standing before him, anxiety dissolving into relief with his acceptance of her. He missed that. Missed quelling her fears. Missed her.
“Do you...” he hesitated. He knew he shouldn’t ask, but- “Do you still love me?”
Joanna exhaled quickly. A choked back laugh that caught in her throat and ceased when she bit her bottom lip, nodding. “Very much.”
It was Drake’s turn to express his relief. Her words were surprisingly powerful, even after years. The insanity of the social season and Liam’s engagement tour seemed so small compared to the conversation he was having. Whatever bravery they claimed he showed while chasing the ghosts that threatened Riley was nothing compared to what it took for Drake to request one last thing. “Tell me?”
Joanna pulled Drake into her, wrapping her arms around his neck and shoulders. His arms quickly circled her waist. Drake’s face fell into her shoulder and Joanna buried her face in his thick hair, both inhaling deeply. Time meant nothing as they held onto each other. Unspoken apologies and the declarations of love that were years too late passed between them in the silence. The embrace was both soothingly familiar to the kids who’d once been hopelessly in love and completely foreign to the adults they’d grown into without each other.
Author’s Note: my fingers slipped. just kidding. I made fun of Drake for missing his wife last week to @the-everlasting-dream and then promptly remembered that I had this just sitting in the barff cave collecting dust. so.
