Jay | she/her | I paint/draw birds and spooky things | Not accepting commissions yet, but please feel free to request things for me to draw | Style varies a lot lol :)

So ngl ive been running a little short on time so this one is actually from last year lol. The thing is HUGE tho like its almost 4 ft tall so im pretty proud of the proportions because its really hard to do them accurately that large. But i also kinda hate the wings on this. I was already like 16 hours into working on it and they were the last thing I did so i just really wanted to be done with them and didnt really take my time which makes me really sad now cuz this woulda been so cool.

Moral of the story: take as much time as you need for your art!

Also reference image off of Pinterest but idk if its the original so credit wherever credit is due.

Hey! Back with another skull today, hummingbird this time (its a little more on brand lol)

Humming birds are symbolic of life- so i really liked the contrast of doing a humming skull which is symbolic. For me a hummingbird skull is kind of a reminder of life and death being tied together. All life has an end, but thats what makes it special. I was also really inspired by the drama in baroque paintings when creating this! I wanted the background to be really dark and the flower petals to look really dramatic but I couldn’t get the color quite right and they ended up getting kinda overloaded either paint so that’s why theyre a bit shiny and kinda blend into the background. Either way im pretty happy with this and think the skull came out really well!

Hey guys! Sorry for my little hiatus there. Im on fall break so ive been pretty much just lazing around for the past few days but my birthday also passed recently and we were celebrating over the weekend since i finally got a break from school and then i had a few appointments, so yeah very hectic but also very fun couple days!

Anyway, personally im not the happiest with the anatomy here proportions wise and i think it photographed a little weird, but oh well! It was still fun to make and good practice so i still think thats a win in my book.

Its October 3rd, so here is my take on the 3rd tarot card, which is also my pfp.

Owls are often used to represent wisdom in art and literature, so I thought it was fitting to use one as the high priestess which is symbolic of inner wisdom and intuition. The high priestess is card number II (2), but for those who are unfamiliar, tarot cards count up from 0 instead of 1 so it’s technically the 3rd card.

Hello again everyone! I post a lot of crows and ravens on here but havent actually talked about the difference yet so today heres some corvid trivia: Crows are much more common and smaller than ravens. While corvids are overall the smartest class of birds, ravens are the smartest while crows are slightly less intelligent. Crows are much sleeker than ravens and do not have the “beard” under their beaks that most ravens have. Their wing shape is also different as well as their tail shape. Both are social creatures and often travel in groups. A group of Crows is called a Murder while a group of Ravens is an Unkindness.

This drawing is of a crow. It’s design is partially inspired by Swain’s crows in arcane or league of legends originally, especially the 4 eyes, but I wanted to give it an extra fantasy element so thats where the antlers come in.
