I’ve been saying this for years. Social stigma against antisemitism (any “ism” really) is a major factor of keeping it in check. It won’t make it go away on its own, but it definitely acts as a deterrent against antisemitic action.

And when that social stigma lessens, the deterrent does too. Why didn’t the DC shooter act in 2015 or 2019? Because he thought people wouldn’t understand his actions – wouldn’t accept them. Do you really think that all those student protesters would still be out in their encampments if being there had actual social consequences? Even if they genuinely felt the need to help the Palestinian people, they might have found a non-antisemitic way to do it (hell, they might have even found an *effective* way to do it) if being antisemitic made them unhirable once they graduated.

And this is why the “silent majority” is so frustrating to me. Like, I know there are a ton of goyim out there who are actually pretty normal about Jews. But I think a lot of them are basically like, “Antisemitism is bad, and I can see that these pro-Palestinian people are saying/doing things that Jews say are antisemitic, but I also don’t feel comfortable enforcing consequences on people for acting on behalf of a group of people who do genuinely need help," and so they stay out of it.

And the problem is that Jews can’t enforce these consequences on our own, so all they’re doing is creating a consequence free zone for antisemitism. I don’t think it’s what they mean to do, and I don’t think it’s done out of malice, but the effect of their actions is that Jews are literally being shot dead in the street and on the beach, and I wish they could see how their silence enables that.
