Also my high school absolutely did have something called a 0th and 10th period which was the result of serious understaffing. I've seen several people confused when trying to pronounce German names or words in fantasy shows, books, games etc. like Vil Schoenheit or Klee. Here's a quick guide I made because I was bored.

Vowels:

a — like the a in the ra-ra ah-ah-ah in Lady Gaga's Bad Romance

e — there's really no english equivalent, the closest thing would probably be ae but you're gonna have to listen to the German e on Google Translate I fear

i — basically e

o — like the o in song

u — like oo in school

Umlaute:

ä / ae — the English a like in sad

ö / oe — you know how a french person would pronounce the eu in cordon bleu? like that.

ü / ue — no equivalent, listen and practice

Diphthongs:

basically this is how it's pronounced when you see these two vowels like this:

au — ow

ei — like the aye in aye aye

eu — like the oy in Floyd

ie — e

Consonants:

c — like ts

j — like y in yugioh

v — mostly like f, sometimes like the English v

w — like the English v

y — like ü

z — like ts

Consonant Clusters:

ch — sometimes like when you imitate hissing cat

ch — sometimes like you're a cat trying to get a hair ball out of your throat

chs — like x in wax
