I am very normal about Aeldari

Intro post

Hi all, I'm Red Stairs, name created because it was the thing right in front of my face in the university library.

Mostly a Warhammer 40k / Rogue Trader crpg fan account of a 30-something. I'm a big Aeldari fan, used to be mostly Craftworlders but Rogue Trader got me more interested in Drukhari. I am/was mostly a Battlefleet Gothic player as far as minis go. I write and am slowly learning some art stuff when I managed to wrestle with my inner demons. You can find some of my writing on A03.

My main fics are:

  • Stray (Rogue Trader): Marazhai / Yrliet (Marliet for short), my OTP. What if the Rogue Trader is too busy romancing Heinrix, and the two Aeldari have to fend through a environment that's hostile to them both?
  • The Wych (WH40k): Drukhari OC and human OC offering two perspectives on life in the dark city. Darker than the other stuff I write, also not a ship fic - at least at this stage. This is more loosely written and sort of a fun side project.
  • This is the way the world ends (Rogue Trader): Also known as the bummer fic, this is a Heinrix Van Calox / Rogue Trader fic, following the Lord Inquisitor ending and my Rogue Trader, Tavia von Valancius. Somewhere between whump and hurt/comfort. Currently on a little hiatus as I'm obsessed with the others.

I think the part of the 40k fandom who really earnestly want to prove Astartes do/can in fact fuck are kinda missing the point.

Like Astartes are at their core deeply tragic creatures. They're people who've been turned into tools to serve the interests of fascist imperialism and, in the process, have had their humanity stripped away because they're purely utilitarian by design.

The scope of their entire existence has been narrowed down to a single point. They're more advanced than baseline humans in a physiological sense--stronger, faster, larger, better reflexes, etc--but beyond that, they're actually more limited.

There's a point in one of the Night Lord books where Octavia observes that, for all of the Astartes' advanced capabilities, they're really quite developmentally stunted. Like, huge powerhouses with unnaturally long lifespans, but the hyper-simplistic emotional depth and worldview of a 12 year old.

Which adds up. The Astartes love to sneeringly dismiss things like sexuality, intimacy and romantic love as nothing but the base, inferior drives of mortals, but once you strip back the superiority complex, it just sounds like a tween boy who can't wrap their head around why anyone would want to kiss a girl.

And, again, it's all by design; the Imperium doesn't want them developing attachments outside of a basic sense of brotherhood and filial love for their Primarch because that distracts them from their sole intended purpose. You don't want your hammer vanishing on a fuck fueled vacation to Bali with your handsaw when you're trying to build a shed. It's all a means of control.

And I get finding one of them hot and having horny headcanon, go fuckin nuts.

But whenever I see a reddit post that's like "B-BUT THE SPACE WOLVES FUCK! HORNY ASTARTES ARE CANON--!", it's like...I dunno, isn't it more compelling if they can't? That they've been robbed of simple human joys in order to better serve the interests of an uncaring theocratic fascist state? And they can't even grasp what's been taken from them?

Maybe that's just me.

RT Blorbos Height Reference

Jae is small yet mighty. EEEE!

Gotta correct these: We have numbers from Marazhai's writer that he's at 210cm. Yrliet is 205cm. Heinrix is 186cm.

Going to share for anyone who might want it... but also add in that there's no need to feel obligated to stick to these height references, even if they come from the writer. If you want to squeeze an extra couple of inches in there (*childish giggles*) then go for it!

(I personally make Marazhai 7'4" because I like me a crazy height difference).

Ah snap the "I posted when I had two seconds and it came out harsh" strikes again. Apologies.

Anyhow, hard agree.

Short king Heinrix? Go for it man. Toll Marzi? Yup. I've also written him closer to 220 and Yrliet at 215.

Wondering how Drukhari would react to snow and sleet because, my little darling, yes your plates hook into your skin. So, there's nothing underneath it, right? And the plates have to glide over each other, because your armour is super flexible and allows you to move really well and at the speed of fast. I mean, sure we can all imagine they are sealed by some sort of space elf science magic, but also, I can HC that the tiny space in between lets in snow and it melts and you end up with a wet cat Marazhai in his tin can armour on the verge of collapse.

For funsies.
