Hallo! I hope you're doing well and other such pleasantries lol

I really admire your writing and it's inspired me to want to write myself! Do you have any advice for new writers? I've never really written anything more than a drabble less than 100 words.. I always struggle to write stuff that isn't dependent on art to explain what's going on 👉👈

(Ps I'm super excited for the addition of ✨pain✨ in all the same in a mirror!! A true legend among us you are. Make sure to take care of yourself too and take lots of breaks! I might not be familiar with writing but I know creative burnout is a beast that haunts all artists 😔. Here's some water fresh from the Waterboy lol 💧💧💧

((pps I see you like fish n things so I present to you my personal favorite: the barreleye (Macropinna microstoma) because they look like aliens that are badly cosplaying as fish))

FOREWARNING : I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL WRITER !!! i may get things wrong in this post so if i do please tell me! things that work for me may not work for you, so take everything into consideration and use it to find what your style of writing is, especially if it doesn't particularly align with mine. I even don't consider myself like. a particularly great writer. so this ask is like. oh my gosh. you trust me enough to come to ME about this. CRAZY TO ME!!!!

i will try my Absolute Best to help!!! and by absolute best i mean im gonna yap your ears off. you don't need to read all of it because there is a LOT; this is just all i got bc i think you and anyone else interested in this deserve that from me

⚠️ ATTENTION WRITERS!! ⚠️ I really needed to reblog this insanely helpful advice from my friend @birdssong in her response to my ask. This is SERIOUSLY WORTH THE READ for all amateur writers looking for help improving their writing! She's the mind behind the Dispatch fanfic "All the Same in a Mirror" and is an excellent writer. Please give it a read!

Hello, friend,

question regarding Waterman's powers; are they hereditive? Does Evelyn have wet powers, does his father? Or is he just randomly wet? xo

FANTASTIC QUESTION person I have definitely never met before!

For this story, I headcanon that Waterboy's paternal side of the family carries a mutant/metahuman gene that has gone generations without being triggered. The stress Evelyn was under during her pregnancy resulted in epigenetic change that "flipped the switch" from off to on. This resulted in Evelyn having to deal with polyhydramnios (excessive amniotic fluid) and preterm labor. Both Herman's dad and Evelyn are phenotypically normies. His dad is just a carrier of the metahuman gene that gives Herman his powers, it was never expressed. He's a loser, he doesn't get to be cool.

Uhhhh basically - Evelyn and Dad no have power, Evelyn stress when baby in belly, baby get powers, dad's fault

You mentioned Evelyn having a deteriorating relationship with her ex-boyfriend in one of your recent posts, so I have a couple questions about that if that’s okay…

1. Is her ex Herman’s father?

2. If he is Herman’s dad, why isn’t he helping Evelyn care for their son?

3. What happened between Evelyn and her ex that made their relationship deteriorate?

Thank you for the ask!!! I'm so happy to hear that people are interested in my oc! Before I get into it, I should mention that ⚠️this story contains fictional DV, child abuse, loss of a parent, and the resulting depression and grief. Part of writing this is very therapeutic for me since many (but not all) aspects of Evelyn and Herman's story are inspired by personal experience. I want to spend time focusing on the recovery aspect of these themes, not necessarily the events themselves (at least not on Tumblr). That means that while heavy angst will be frequent, there will be softer, fluffier bits as well. ⚠️

Okay! That aside, let's answer some questions!

1. Her ex is indeed Herman's father. Evelyn met him when they were both in their final year of high school, and it didn't take long for them to begin dating!

2. Things got... Messy, especially after they got an apartment near their shared college together. Soon after that, Evelyn found out she was pregnant. Her boyfriend became increasingly more controlling of her as time went on, and his egotistical tendencies led to him making several financial decisions that left him in debt to dangerous people (guess who). Evelyn ended up dropping out of college in order to keep up with paying rent and preparing for their baby. Soon she noticed money she had saved in her personal bank account beginning to vanish, and she knew it was somehow her boyfriend behind it.

3. Herman happended. The moment Evelyn first held him in her arms, she knew she would love her baby forever. Her boyfriend, however, felt nothing but resentment. Something must've been to blame for his personal, professional, and financial failures, and rather than reflect on himself, he decided to place the blame on his son. Shortly after Herman's birth, he packed up and left.

Bonus: the grandmother we see in canon is the mother of Evelyn's ex, and was never informed of Herman's existence until CPS tracked her down as Herman's next of kin following... Well. You'll find out :)

I just realized I've been abbreviating 'et cetera' as eCT instead of eTC this whole time. I've just been casually including electroconvulsive therapy to my lists

Does Evelyn need a housewife because I volunteer

A bit of lore comes with the answer to your question!

She's a young, single mother struggling to keep a roof over their head, but not in the way you might think. Let's just say Herman and landlords don't mix.

The two of them ended up evicted from several different apartments until the only ones left were tiny, old, and too rundown for the sleezy landlord to give a shit about their shitty property getting more damaged than they already were. Evelyn tries her best to shelter Herman from the reason why they keep getting kicked out of their homes, but he catches on pretty quick...

I think Evelyn would be ecstatic to have some much needed help around the house! She's got enough on her plate with her pushy job and the deteriorating relationship with her ex boyfriend... But she's got a good attitude and is hoping to find her son a second parent to have in his life!
