Is there a gay number in Chinese/mando? Talking with friends about how Brazil has 24 and mexico has 41 made me realize that I don't know if we have a gay number, which seems unlikely to me, given that theres so much other stuff based around number homophones/numerology

I can only speak for Mandarin Chinese but:

1(yī) and 0 (líng) = slang for top/bottom (0.5 would be vers but that's getting into the weeds a bit).

So 0 would be the gay(er) number, I guess, but calling someone a 0 would basically just be calling them a bottom; it's more like something people would giggle at if they knew that already (which, thanks to the internet, more people do). It's not really a number you'd assign to gay people broadly, though.

(Ramble time)

The word for gay in chinese is 同性恋 tóng xìng liàn (shorthand TXL online) so actually there is some slang like 24 in Brazil that are based on being near homophones. One popular (online) slang for gay is 通讯录 tóng xùn lù which means "address book/directory" and by extension, 电话本子 diànhuà běnzi which as you can see sounds nothing like the word for gay but means "phone contact book", so it's a layer deepr than 通讯录.

hello! hope you're doing well! I'm not sure if you originally posted this douyin as it's a couple of years old but it's been on my mind for a while - it's a car dealership skit where a man approaches the dealership to buy a car and expertly gets sold and thrown into a car before he can process what happens. May you please share the video if you have it? Thanks!! (I did try checking your tag list + archive, but tumblr is only showing nine tags total for some reason.)

Anonymous asked:

hi this was a super long time ago, but do you still have the post where it was two models dressed in 1950s era clothes taking photos as a couple on a train? I remember the photographer/director was female, and she was talking about how they were doing a good job in the background

I just noticed and was curious why your douyin comments shows likes in thousands (K) instead of tens of thousands (w)

I screencapped from desktop site which has started converting w to k based on geolocation, I assume!

To anyone unaware, in previous posts with douyin comments, if there was a "w" or 万 after the # of likes, w=10,000. Because there is a lot of people in China, it does make more sense for social media numbers to be counted in the 10,000s versus our normal 1,000 (k) 😂
