Fandoms/ships: Shameless (US)/Ian x Mickey

Multi-Chapter:
  • Circle Theory (79k+ words, Rating: E): Ian is a fourth-year college student and aspiring photojournalist stuck in a bit of a creative rut and always feeling like he’s trying to escape the ghosts of his past. Mickey is a deaf, recently paroled janitor on that same college campus, with an uncanny gift for numbers and an even more haunting past. They meet under the strangest of circumstances, but they will help each other in ways that neither of them ever expected.
  • Crisis Line (72k+ words, Rating: E): When Ian calls the campus crisis line for help in a time of need, he never expected the comfort he would find in the voice on the other end of the line. He says his name is Mickey, and there’s something about his voice, something Ian can’t pinpoint; like he’s been through some stuff, too. Two college students with pasts that continue to haunt them find a connection that they never thought possible.
  • Everything But You (30k+ words, Rating: E): Mickey is an up and coming accountant for one of the top MedTech corporations in the country, and he’s determined not to squander the opportunity he’s been given. But when one seemingly innocent favor to a higher up executive leads to a tangled mess involving the gorgeous redhead who works at the front desk, the one Mickey can't stop thinking about, he might just have to make a choice.
  • Finished Edges (31k+ words, Rating: E): Ian is an interior designer tasked with getting his sister’s idea for a boutique laundromat up and running. Mickey is an artisan woodworker who takes immense pride in his craft. Unbeknownst to either of them, they’ve had eyes on each other for quite a while…and now they’ll be working together. What could possibly go wrong?
  • Follow Me, Follow You (34k+ words, Rating: E): @mickeymilkfitness: Fitness influencer. No excuses taken, no fucks given. @ianscleaneats: Health food influencer, making your digestive system happy one recipe at a time. What could possibly happen when the two join forces for a collab? Should be strictly business, right? Obviously…
  • Ghost of a Chance (66k+ words, Rating: E): Ian finally has his life back on track—for the most part—after going through hell and back. He has a steady job at a historical cocktail bar in Chicago, and he’s found a positive outlet for his emotions through his writing. But when his place of work is going to be featured on one of those ghost-hunting television shows with famous paranormal investigator, YouTube sensation, and television host Mickey Milkovich, who has a few ghosts of his own, he never could have predicted all of the ways in which his life would be turned upside down.
  • Life Itself (36k+ words, Rating: E): Mickey didn’t think he’d ever see Ian Gallagher again, after he was unable to speak the words he so desperately wanted to say: “Don’t leave. Please stay.” Ian had left to join the army, and Mickey moved away and moved on…kind of. Five years later, now working as a prosthetic technician, he encounters a new patient at the clinic, and it’s the one whose memory haunts him every single day—the one he never thought he’d see again.
  • A Life Worth Living (15k+ words, Rating: M): Mickey loves his life; he really does. But lately, he’s been feeling more and more like this string of bad luck is just never-ending, and every single thing is all his fault. Everyone in his life would be better off without him. Right? It will take an other-worldly experience to show Mickey that his life really is worth living. Inspired by It’s a Wonderful Life.
  • The Odds of Us: (47k+ words, Rating: E): Ian’s stuck. His job is fulfilling but tough, and he’s in a dead-end relationship. Enter Mickey, a sexy and charismatic bartender who has a past and is maybe a little bit stuck himself. When a lottery ticket brings them closer than they ever thought possible, will secrets and misunderstandings cause them to keep floating in each other’s orbit, or will they finally collide—and at what cost?
  • Piece of My Heart (28k+ words, Rating: E): Mickey is a nurse, and a damn good one. Sure, he has a soft spot for certain patients, but he remains ever the professional. After all, it’s a job. But when a patient waiting on a heart transplant, a face from his very distant past, crawls his way under Mickey’s skin, he’s pretty sure he’ll never be the same again.
  • A Sorta Fairytale (45k+ words, Rating: M): Mickey’s just out of prison, on parole, and cursed—literally. He’s doomed to live his life under a dark cloud, completely stripped of free will, until he gets a job at a diner and meets an enigmatic redhead who seems to be carrying around his own unique burden. And maybe, just maybe, finding each other will be the key to freedom—for both of them.
  • Suddenly You’re Mine (24k+ words, Rating: M): Mickey is a single father just trying to get by and do right by his son. Ian is a devoted uncle to his niece, helping his sister out whenever he possibly can. When an innocent mix-up between the two strangers causes their lives to become inescapably intertwined for an entire day, it just might turn out to be the best day ever.
  • Through the Fog (56k+ words, Rating: E): Mickey wakes up in the hospital with a traumatic brain injury, holes in his memory and an inability to formulate his thoughts into words. With the help of his speech therapist Ian, he will slowly begin to piece himself back together and deal with the aftermath, finding what he least expected along the way.
  • Worlds Apart (50k+ words, Rating: E): Mickey has a pretty good life. He’s working as a public defender, trying to do better for people in the same boat he was once in. However, when he gets assigned a murder case and sees that the prosecutor is the one person he really can’t stand but still can’t stop thinking about, the grown-up version of that redheaded boy he once had such a soft spot for, his comfortable life might just be flipped on its head.
One-Shots:
  • ‘Tis the (Flu) Season (2.9k + words, Rating: T): Mickey gets sick, and Ian can’t stay away from him. It might derail their holiday plans, but it’s worth it.
  • The Fixer’s Hands (11k+ words, Rating: M): It all started with a busted radiator. That’s what Ian says whenever people ask, whenever he tells the story of how it all happened. A crumbling garage in the middle of nowhere, a mysterious man with hands made to fix things, some car trouble, and a few rainy nights. Their story. People called him a lot of things throughout the years, but to Ian, he was always just Mickey.
  • Lightning Crashes (9.7k+ words, Rating: T): A freak accident leaves Mickey with supernatural abilities that he never thought humanly possible, inexplicably binding him to one of the EMTs who saved his life—someone he can’t forget, no matter how hard he tries.
Series:
  • Too Sweet (multi-chapter + one-shots, 50k+ words, Rating: E): Ian is a new business owner who’s just opened his flower shop in a prime spot, right next to a bakery. This is the perfect opportunity for some networking, maybe even a business collaboration or partnership, right? Turns out, the frustratingly sexy bakery owner isn’t actually a stranger, but a very familiar face from Ian’s distant—and not so distant—past. Or, The flower shop/bakery AU that no one asked for.
  • Meet-Cutes and Meet-Uglies:
  • Linked (2.7k+ words, Rating: T): Ian can't stop thinking about that cute guy from the other night. And if he looks at his LinkedIn profile over and over again, it's not like the guy will ever know, right?
  • Grocery Store Superman (1.8k+ words, Rating: T): Mickey just wants a can of BBQ Pringles. If only they weren’t so damn hard to reach.
  • Someday My Prince (1.7k+ words, Rating: T): A hot day, a sugar craving, and an unwanted job transfer all lead to Ian meeting his very own grumpy prince.
  • Keyboard Casanova (1.7k+ words, Rating: M): Ian writes smutty fanfiction on his computer at work. And there’s a really cute guy who works in the IT department. It’s a perfect recipe for… something.
  • False Alarms (2k+ words, Rating: T): Ian meets the cutest firefighter he's ever seen. And Mickey is hot for teacher principal. That’s it, that’s the fic.
  • When You Say Jump (2.5k+ words, Rating: T): When Debbie gifts Ian a skydiving experience for his birthday, he's reluctant—to say the least. But he doesn't bargain at all for what happens when he finally decides to do it.
  • The Wedding DJ (2.3k+ words, Rating: T): Ian is in control. The food will be served to the wedding guests according to schedule. The hot wedding DJ with his unconventional music choices will not throw him off his game. No way.
  • Autumn Bingo Prompts
  • All the Way Home (18k+ words, Rating: E): Mickey leads a quiet life. Well, quiet for a professional assassin, at least. When a job brings him back to his old stomping grounds, where there just so happens to be a high school alumni homecoming event being held, he has to face his past and the person he left behind nearly ten years ago—the one person he’s never stopped thinking about.
  • Can’t Trace Time (6.4k+ words, Rating: M): It’s fall, and the season brings more changes than Ian and Mickey could’ve bargained for when a health scare flips their world around. But they’ll survive. They always do, right? Maybe Mickey just needs to pick up some new hobbies, and Ian… well, Ian just needs to roll with it.
  • Spice and Everything Nice (14k+ words, Rating: E): Ian’s a barista and aspiring teacher with an undying love for comic books, especially one with a fiery, redheaded protagonist. When a familiar face from his past enters the coffee shop, a mysterious artist with a penchant for pumpkin spice lattes, his world might just get flipped upside down in ways he never could’ve imagined.
  • Reluctantly Haunted (4k+ words, Rating: M): Ian convinces Mickey to go to a haunted house attraction with him. And, well... it goes pretty much as expected.
  • The Disquiet Beneath (33k+ words, Rating: E): Ian is a forensic pathologist who’s able to communicate with the dead. Mickey is a chain-smoking demon hunter who fights for the survival of souls, even as his own personal demons prove much tougher to beat. Together they form an unlikely partnership, and they might end up saving themselves, and each other, in the process.
Co-written:
  • Luck Be A Redhead Tonight (46k + words, Rating: E): Las Vegas… Sin City, where the hustle is real, anything and everything goes, and the summer heat burns like a motherfucker. Mickey knows better than anyone that here, it’s all about playing your cards right. If only it weren’t for the seriously sexy, redheaded casino security guard who’s a bit of a distraction — to say the least. But winning big at the tables takes strategy, smarts, and balls. Plus, a little bit of luck never hurt anyone, especially when your sister’s found herself in trouble. What’s life without taking some chances? And what happens in Vegas… well, gets complicated — in the spiciest way.
  • The Multiverse Can Suck It (39k + words, Rating: E): Mickey thinks Ian's date night idea of going to an escape room is stupid, but he reluctantly goes along with it. Little do either of them know what awaits them behind the final door. Take a journey with Ian and Mickey as they traverse the multiverse, giving a whole new meaning to the word "escape."

Thank you our lovely hosts @galladrabbles and @takeyourpillsbitchh for this weeks prompt :Mardi Gras.

The tables are turned . Papa and Daddy over sharing with an amused Lily and Liam

*******************************************

Ian and Mickey were drunk‑texting from Mardi Gras, sending blurry selfies buried under mountains of beads. Ian typed, “Kids we r awesome. A man blessed us with a chicken.”

Mickey followed with, “Tell Liam I arm‑wrestled a priest. I WON.”

Lily read the messages, expression flat. “Ten bucks says Daddy throws his back out under bead weight.”

Liam snorted. “Please, I’m betting on bail money. Twenty , Pops gets arrested pissing on a float .”

Another text arrived, a photo of Mickey riding Ian’s shoulders like a drunken parade king.

Lily sighed. “Yeah. We’re definitely gonna need bail.”

Thank you @takeyourpillsbitchh for this week’s @galladrabbles prompt, Mardi Gras 💜💛💚

The first thing Ian notices upon entering Franny’s room is the feather boa.

Then it’s the bedazzled, purple sunglasses. Then it’s the glimmering tiara perched atop rumpled black hair. Then it’s the scowl.

“Franny? Why does Uncle Mickey look like a Disney princess who stumbled into a Mardi Gras parade?”

Mickey removes the sunglasses and glares at his husband.

“Doesn’t he look pretty?” Franny shouts through her Spiderman mask.

“Very pretty,” Ian smirks.

“Ain’t fuckin’ pretty,” Mickey pouts.

“I beg to differ. Gonna show you just how pretty when we get home.”

Mickey’s cheeks flush red, and yeah. Fucking gorgeous.

@galladrabbles time again. @dreamjupiter’s prompt was Date Night. I may have been feeling a little maudlin when I wrote this 😳

(The Last) Date Night

He thinks they stayed home that last night. Probably had takeout, drank beer and watched a movie. He can’t remember though what they ate. It could have been pizza, tacos or just burgers. It pisses him off that he can’t remember. How can he not remember? He also can’t remember the movie. He knows deep down that the little details would start to fade but that just makes him so angry and so sad.

He sits in the damp grass and twists the ring that covers a near faded tattoo, willing the memories back. But they are gone. Like Ian.

Thank you for the tags @jrooc, @suzy-queued, and @casey-ackkat!

1. origin of your username? Running on empty— having very little fuel but going and going anyway. Story of my life! I got it from the River Phoenix movie of the same name, and tried to make my username as close as possible to my ao3 name (Runningempty). Now why I left the "on" out of my ao3 name I truly don't remember. Maybe it was already taken. 😆

2. i will always order this food: French Fries

3. overused emoji: 😂 (unashamedly overused)

4. current favorite show/movie/book? My comfort show is always Schitt's Creek, and of course the gallavich scenes from Shameless. Loved Heated Rivalry. I'm not sure if I can narrow down a favorite movie (all of them would be old classics)... or a favorite book for that matter!

5. song on repeat? I've been reliving my high school days and listening to "Precious Things" by Tori Amos.

6. last thing you hyperfixated on? Gallivich, always!

7. oddly specific thing that brings you joy? Yummy smelling lip balms

8. phone wallpaper? A picture of my kids

9. what smell makes you happy? Vanilla, citrus, lavender

10. morning, night, or other type of person? Night. Although when I try to stay up late, I fall asleep. 🫠

11. what’s your work/profession? Speech therapist

Tagging…

Thank you @dreamjupiter for this week's @galladrabbles prompt, Date Night! The perfect opportunity for me to write an idea that's been in my head. 😉

————————————————————————

“It’s my turn to choose what we do for date night!” Ian huffs as he grabs the remote.

Mickey plops onto the couch.

“But a fuckin’… hockey romance? I mean yeah, you got pizza and beer, but can’t we watch an action movie?”

Ian rolls his eyes. “You’ll like it, trust me.”

Twelve minutes later…

“There any damn hockey in this thing? Let’s just turn on the Blackhawks game.”

Two minutes later…

“Oh shit. They gonna jerk each other off in the shower? Alright, now it’s gettin’ interesting.”

Four minutes later…

Mickey watches with rapt attention. Ian smirks. “Told ya.”

Chapter 19 of Where Things Fell Apart

The Arrangement... has posted

“You gonna tell me who this asshole is, then?” Ian asked, studying the two men in front of him.

Mickey’d barely moved away from the other man, who proceeded to throw a beefy arm possessively around Mickey’s shoulder, his hand—if you could even call that huge mitt a hand—landing on Mickey’s pec which he purposefully squeezed.

Ian knew enough to tell the asshole was fucking with him—but he hadn’t failed to notice that Mickey hadn’t moved away, or the huge bulge in the guy’s pants.

GALLADRABBLES #211 - COUNTDOWN

Thank you, dearest @runninonemptyy, for the very generous prompt that stuck Europe's song in my head this entire week 😁 And happy 2026, everyone 😍 Paging @galladrabbles 😎

---

Developing a crush on her best friend was definitely not on the bingo card for this year.

But he's kind and considerate, not to mention smart and witty as fuck. That he's also drop-dead gorgeous is just the cherry on top.

Even Mickey likes him and he likes pretty much no-one.

Which leads to her current plan. Wait for the countdown, slither next to him and plant one just as the clock strikes twelve.

And then play it off as just a new year's kiss if the case.

Except… her own brother beats her to it? What. The actual. Fuck.

---

Happiest of New Year’s everyone!!🎉🥳🎊

Countdown

Happy new year everyone! I really hope 2026 is wonderful for all. Here's the first @galladrabbles of the year, and thanks to @runninonemptyy for the prompt! Word count: 100

..............

2018 Mickey says he wants a better couch and fewer parole check-ins. Ian says he wants Mickey to stop stealing the blankets. They kiss at midnight anyway.

2022 Mickey says he wants sleep. Ian says he wants the baby healthy. Fireworks shake the windows while the monitor hums like a promise.

2025 Mickey’s holding a half-asleep kid, hair a mess, heart stupid-full. Ian says he wants more of this chaos that somehow fits. Three. Two. One…

They count down together, thinking about their life assembled in years. And realizing the countdown wasn't toward something ending, but toward everything they'd made.

December Fanfic Roundup!

It's the end of a year of doing these things! I hope you've been enjoying them! Should I continue next year?

This month I did a lot of "catch-up" reading going through things I'd saved from the October fic influx, and Calli's winter/Christmas rec list, so it ended up being mostly short fics (nothing over 100k, and only two over 50k). Which means maybe more bookmarks than usual too, but on the lower side for words.

So this month I read about 442k words from 55 fics. And here is the usual list of my bookmarks for the month, from newest to oldest.

Here is another for your perusal. Thank you! @runninonemptyy @galladrabbles .

Countdown

Three more days of this to endure,

The wait has been so long and rough,

Can my heart take it? I'm not sure,

If he says no, then can I be tough?

Two more nights to sit here alone,

This ache inside driving spikes in my heart,

I know he's the first call when I get a phone,

My soul aches so much when we're apart,

One last number marked off if these years,

The plan we have set up will work out,

There is no time for worries, no time for fears,

True love is what this is about.
