So. I’d been going through my likes, remembered that someone wanted to see Charles have a Stare Realisation AND wanted to draw my own au of a Edwardian Charles and 80’s Edwin somewhat inspired by @technically-human reverse verse. They’re called Charlie and Eddie because they hate their formal names <3 they keep their regular roles as brawn and brains. Charlie uses knuckledusters (and a cane sword.) and Eddie’s magic is a lot more runic/art based!
Honestly this eraswap au isn’t that well developed, but the outline:
Charlie was targeted by St. Hilarion’s boys in a ritual because he didn’t go to the school, but knew some of the boys from local cricket games at like. Summer fetes. They kill him on the grounds and they go to Hell, Charlie being forced to swim/wade through rivers away from a leviathan eating him endlessly for decades after being swapped between demons.
Eddie has more of a New Romantic vibe and was … well. His parents were in a cult. He thought he was breaking away from it when he goes to St. Hilarion’s with Simon (whose family is also in said cult), who instead turned on him with their classmates when he started to express himself, and got them in trouble for bullying a younger boy. They met in a sports shed as Eddie finally manages to run away and Charlie is roaming the forest, instead staying with Eddie as he’s dying of internal damage and a fractured larynx. I think Charlie recites what he remembers of Sherlock stories to distract Eddie as he passes away. Then they stay together 5ever <3
Eddie’s still represses his sexuality, is nerdy about popular culture he never got to really experience, and can be painfully earnest + a bit dramatic and naive talking to new people. Growing up in a high control group, he can and does manipulate people quite well when he wants to, through. Charlie’s sharper and more reserved, in terms of violence on cases, and doubting new people, but methodical and a bit quiet in general to compensate for how impulsively vengeful he can still get. Eddie likes that Charlie’s kind of an asshole because he’s had to listen to so many charismatic lies over the years, and Charlie likes how Eddie is always extremely curious about things even beyond his scope.
