SPB's Webcomics: Masterpost

"Rabbits are so human. Or perhaps, humans are so rabbit?" -Ronald Lockley, 1966

This masterpost is an assembly of my webcomics, all of which can be read on Tumblr! You will find links to each comic here, as well as links to story navigation and the original comic sites (which are a great place to binge). My comics are all heavily thematic and focus on things like queerness/LGBTQ, neurodivergence, disability, etc. Some are Pokemon comics and some are original stories. Enjoy!

So fuckin tired of seein even other mentally ill folks sayin shit like "I'm so worried that maybe I don't actually have [mental disorder] or I'm not really [identity related label] n that I'm just schizophrenic instead" As if bein on the schizophrenia spectrum is some goddamn death sentence that instantly invalidates every single experience you ever had or will ever have. They act like everythin about you is no longer real n shouldn't be taken seriously just 'cause there is a possibility it's caused by a delusion or psychosis (also completely ignorin the fact those who aren't schizophrenic are capable of experiencin psychosis or delusions too.)

N no, I don't give a fuck that they're sayin this about themselves, not to somebody else. It still says a lot about how they view schizospec people.

You were wrong about your system functions? You found out were wrong about the structure of your innerworld, or whether you have an innerworld at all? Maybe you were wrong about how your switching works?

That’s fine. You’ll figure it out. It would be surprising for y’all to get this all correct your first time thinking about it. It might take years to figure some of this out, but that’s fine too. You’re fine. You’ve got this!

Do any of the autobots know/suspect how badly Megatron treated Starscream in the past? And would any of them care?

I kinda already answered this question before on this post, but the abusive situation between Starscream and Megatron, and in particular Starscream's acute trauma response, is actually a really recent development, which I talked about in this post.

Which is to say, I dont think many Autobots know exactly why Starscream seems so much more frightened of Megatron all of a sudden. They can easily guess of course, it’s not that hard to figure out. Not that starscream would ever share, he doesn't exactly like telling people about his weaknesses. But then, even if the Autobots did find out?

I don't think they would care!

Is a post not nuanced enough or does it just not relate to your hyper-specific experience

I feel this also applies to autism representation. Is it really bad representation or do you just not relate to it?

PSA: stuttering in fics

as someone with a speech impediment, all of the people saying that only one type of stuttering is valid are wrong.

stuttering CAN look like this: "t-this is a-an example s-s-sentence"

OR this: "this-this is an example sen-sentence."

OR this: "t-t-t-th-..t-ttttthis is an example sentence."

OR this: "this is, uhm, an example, uh, sentence."

OR this: "this is an example sssssss-sentence."

OR this: "this is an examp-...this an example sentence."

sometimes the sentence won't even come out of your mouth at all.

there are probably many examples i'm forgetting, but that's the point! it usually is a mix of a few of these, but some people do one of them more often than others! some people with speech impediments have certain sounds that they almost consistently have trouble with (for me it's "st").

people with speech impediments also rarely-if ever-stutter whilst they're singing or whispering.

most importantly!!!! people with speech impediments are capable of saying a sentence without stuttering!! it can just be a gamble sometimes.

and if more people could portray the frustration that comes with stuttering and not being able to get words out, i'd be a very happy girl.

(fun fact: sometimes when my mouth won't let me say what i want to say, i get so annoyed that i just yell or grumble out "WORDS.")

this was your speech impediment PSA!!!!

out of all the posts i’ve made i’m happy that it’s THIS one that blew up

shoutout to people who are rejected from neurodivergent communities.

  • medium and high support needs autistic people who often get left out of the conversation or spoken over.
  • people with "just" anxiety and/or depression who are treated as if their problems are lesser.
  • people with OCD who have intrusive thoughts about really taboo subjects (yes, even that one). people with OCD who don't hate themselves for every intrusive thought, or who have learned to be okay with their thoughts. people with OCD who genuinely worry they might be xyz type of bad person (yes, even that type). people with OCD who don't know if they violate people's DNIs because of their intrusive thoughts.
  • people with psychosis or any schizophrenia spectrum disorder. people who are left out of the conversation, stigmatized, shunned away as too scary to talk about or include. people whose conditions are frequently misunderstood and demonized.
  • people with DID, OSDD, or any other complex dissociative disorder. people whose mental illness is glamorized and idealized and misunderstood. people whose condition is deemed fake or performative, made up for attention. people whose condition is heavily debated even among the scientific community.
  • people with cluster B personality disorders who are treated as evil. people whose conditions are often the "exception" to others' neurodivergent positivity posts. people who can't google their condition without seeing posts about abusers, toxic people, people labeled as evil or crazy or attention seeking or manipulative, and any other demonizing language.
  • people with non-cluster B personality disorders who are often forgotten and left out of the conversation. people whose conditions are widely unknown or underdiscussed. people who struggle to find a community for their experiences.
  • anybody who is "a stereotype." people who actually do look like the image that everyone in their community tries to insist is just a stereotype. people who are not responsible for the ableism their community faces and are tired of being treated like they are.
  • anybody who has done things they regret because of their mental illness. people who were abusive, who were harmful, who were toxic. people who developed addictions, made mistakes, ruined their lives. people who want to do better and wish they could be treated with compassion as they try.
  • anybody who was wronged by the system. people who were given a stigmatizing label that marks them for the rest of their life. people who are shamed out of communities, rejected or fired from jobs, turned away from even mental health professionals who are supposed to be helpful.
  • anybody who is "too disabled". people whose experiences are left out of conversations where more abled people are trying to frantically prove their validity to neurotypicals. people who can't do things, people who need help, people who will never be independent.
  • anybody who is left out for who they are. BIPOC, physically disabled people, intersex people, religious people, and more. people who are excluded from mainstream conversations, and whose discussions about intersectionality are ignored or talked over. people who struggle to find others who are like them.
  • and so many more.

neurodivergence is supposed to be a welcoming community for everybody. and we have a long way to go before that will be the case. but we're working towards it, one step at a time.

i think people should be nicer to schizophrenics

saying this because i've literally been subjected to panopticons and moral saw traps and had my every action examined and monitored my whole life and i just want to relax for once

after 4 years of drawing webcomics, this is my wisdom:

  • start now. now. now now now. or else you'll never draw this damn thing
  • it's fine if you don't have the entire story figured out yet, it'll happen naturally
  • draw what you want to draw!! webcomics often run for years, so you better work with something you like
  • don't overcomplicate things. a simple, efficient work flow is your top priority in order to stay consistent
  • bullshit some things. trace background refs. reuse poses. draw your character's face from different angles and just copy paste it in to save time. be smart about your work baby
  • take breaks if needed. webcomic burnout is real
  • sometimes, a panel or a page looks bad. shit happens. move on
  • lettering is actually really important and super hard to pull off
  • it's your comic. do what you want forever!!!
  • I'm begging you again to work smart, not hard. reuse backgrounds. use brush sets for webcomic artists. trace 3D objects. use 3D models to pose your characters
  • you may need hours or days to draw one panel, but people will look at it for 5-8 seconds. keep that in mind
  • a simple background is better than no background at all (avoiding the white void increases the quality of your work by a ton!)
  • sometimes the anatomy needs to be a little off to make an interesting shot/panel. that's fine, don't worry about it too much
  • at least 2000px canvas and 300 dpi for good quality results
  • it's okay to stop by the way. it's okay to move on from a project if you no longer find joy in it
