norse animist and polytheist swedish folk practitioner follower of freja

★ INTRODUCTION ★

Tjena! This is a bit of an overdue introduction. My name is Emma (she/her). I am also on Instagram! I am an inclusive Norse polytheist and animist, and I’m devoting myself to Freja. I am a sejdkvinna/seiðkona. I am still a student in many ways, and I’m constantly learning from spirits, land, and the beautiful community around me.

I am also a Swedish folk practitioner, practicing a blend of trolldom and the svartkonstbok tradition. Honoring ancestors and community is centered in this path. I love to blend folklore with Norse mythology in my path. I believe that connecting to spirits and the world around us allows us to better serve our communities.

Being outside is religious to me! I love caving, rock and ice climbing, kayaking, camping, and tree climbing. Movement and fresh air is absolutely a way to connect to something bigger than yourself.

I want to use this blog to create content around Norse polytheist, Swedish folklore, and witchcraft/magic. I hope to find a good balance of sharing resources and UPG in the process. I would also love to connect to more to other practitioners, especially others learning sejd! Please do not hesitate to reach out or send something to my inbox.

If you flee from something too hard you reflect it revealingly.

Try too hard to avoid being cringe, and you end up cringe. You become insincere; risk nothing, evoke nothing.

Mythology based Loki and Sigyn from my hand ❤️❤️

but energy work is part of many folk traditions. Tbh manifestation is too. They’re just not called those words.

It is! In fact! Not! To take those very varied cultural concepts and lump them together under energy or manifestation is to water them down and try to make them fit a homogenous narrative that goes directly against my ethics. We should take great care to learn about the actual cosmological systems of the faiths we choose to engage ourselves with, because they will always form a more complete picture than attempting to make them fit the energy work / manifestation narrative - especially given both of those things entered the European spiritual zeitgeist through third wave Western Esotericism appropriating concepts from eastern traditions.

I would and will forever be offended if someone calls megin 'energy', and I am deeply opposed to the way these intentionally ambiguous and pseudoscientific words are taking root in cultural spiritualities to such an extent that people mistakenly believe they were there the whole time. Homogenization is a direct contributor to white supremacy. We should all take pride in our diversity rather than try to find false unity under words that came about in the 18th and 19th century from appropriators like Blavatsky

spirits don't have to be your friend. the rock in your backyard doesn't have to behave like a human or be useful to you to deserve respect. there is inherent value in loving the web of spirits that surrounds us without asking what they can do for us.

to be very clear, this is also about not anthropomorphizing nun-human spirits. this is also about decentering human relationships to spirits in the web of interconnectedness.

I've been careful to not view my relationships with spirits as merely transactional. I've caught myself multiple times thinking "I should pursue x relationship for this y benefit", and while it's not always bad to do that, I do feel that I want my relationship with the land to be more meaningful than that. I wholly support not only respecting the spirits in our environment but also interacting them just because!! we live on the same land!!
