"goddess" "matriarchy" "female wisdom" girl your civic rights
“But I didn’t and still don’t like making a cult of women’s knowledge, preening ourselves on knowing things men don’t know, women’s deep irrational wisdom, women’s instinctive knowledge of Nature, and so on. All that all too often merely reinforces the masculinist idea of women as primitive and inferior – women’s knowledge as elementary, primitive, always down below at the dark roots, while men get to cultivate and own the flowers and crops that come up into the light. But why should women keep talking baby talk while men get to grow up? Why should women feel blindly while men get to think?”
— Ursula K. Le Guin
Jo in Little Women: "I find it poor logic to say that because women are good, women should vote. Men do not vote because they are good; they vote because they are male, and women should vote, not because we are angels and men are animals, but because we are human beings and citizens of this country."

Another comic based on a favorite post of mine, because what can I say? I love posts
it turns out i really enjoy making educational posts about the comics making process and ways of thinking. here's another one featuring characters from my graphic novel in a very anachronistic art museum.
Since Thursday our politicians have been trying to rush the 'Kids Online Safety Act' (KOSA) and SCREEN acts alongside 15 other bills through committee in order to censor the internet while lying about it being for child safety. It was such laws that allowed the UK, Australia, and Europe to become the hellholes they are where youre arrested for mean posts.
Sadly, our same leaders are also trying to repeal Section 230 alongside these bills. What Section 230 does, in simple terms, is categorize stuff you make online as part of your freedom of speech.
If they aren't stopped they will strip that from you. Be wary.
Sorry for the non lancer post but if KOSA or the Screen ACT passes, if section 230 is repealed, it will be apocalyptic for tumblr and any site like it.
this site provides good resources to help you fight this if you're an american

"[Lindsay Graham and Dick Durbin] are joined on the bill by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Ashley Moody (R-Fla.) and Peter Welch (D-Vt.)."
TL;DR: A pot made by Dave The Potter, who was an enslaved artisan who was unique for signing his name and putting words and poems on the pots he made, has been returned to his descendants, even though the pot was bought and sold to begin with.
It officially belongs to the family, but will remain stewarded by the MFA for the next two years. This is a really interesting way forward for conflicted items in museums, being that the family owns it but it will remain with the museum. At least for two years.
The pot is obviously a tremendous piece of history, illustrating the class of highly skilled artisan slaves who existed but often get forgotten in the field slave/ house slave narrative that gets pushed. For real there's sooooo much to learn from this pot, I'm glad that it gets some kind of public visibility while the family gets control of it.
also, they returned another pot which the family immediately sold back to the museum, so they will get to keep one- with the important caveats that:
I think it's critical that non-museum people understand that this, too, is what repatriation can look like. sometimes the museum keeps the piece, temporarily or permanently! it's not necessarily always a case of "the proper owners take it back and keep it!"
what matters is that they are given the CHOICE. they have the final say in what happens to these objects, regardless of whether they stay in the museum or leave it
Here's an exhibition held by The Met on Dave's works as well as others from Edgefield. That link also has a video tour of the exhibition and some other content related to the pottery.
The exhibition also includes a lot of these "face jugs" that were done by enslaved potters, in their own time, for their own use, and potentially connected to West African cultural/spiritual traditions. Apparently, the clay present to this area in South Carolina (kaolin clay) was also present in West Central African and was used for spiritual purposes there.
Dave the Potter also has a Wikipedia page, which is where I learned that he was also disabled as he had a leg amputated at some point for unknown reasons. This is just really, really incredible history and I hope a lot more people learn about this.

Was talking to a coworker today who explained that her grandfather was like Snow White “but Californian. And an old man.” in that the creatures of the forest would follow him around and presumably duet with him.
“When he died the ravens sat in the trees outside for a week, watching. Taking turns. A horde of raccoons tried to break into the house every night, tearing at the siding. Eventually they gave up, but it was unsettling.”
“Aww. They were checking on him!” I said, like a normal person. Internally, I thought “Maybe you could do the thing you do with dead pets, where you show them to the living pets so the living pet understands they’re gone. But I guess if you did that to a bunch of scavenging species, they’d be like “Well, that’s very sad but he IS food now.” So what you’d need, for human sensibilities, is some sort of transparent corpse barrier. Like a see-through coffin oh that’s what the dwarves were doing! You’ve stopped paying attention to this conversation about the loss of a beloved family member you gotta phase back in.”
well yes!
I’m sorry, you don’t know WHY??
this tag is too glorious not to include
Excited to show my latest Twilight Princess fanart commission, "Darkest Hour"
this is so fucking funny
i can't stop thinking about this. this kind of shit is not like milsim plane nerds with their own super-expensive desktop cockpit recreations. that kind of hardware makes sense to exist.
this does not. they're playing world of tanks which is like the "call of duty" of tank games (casual, players only slightly bad-smelling). it also doesn't have support for tank peripherals. no game does. no trainers do afaik. which means that (assuming this isn't just a video editing) all of that shit they are fucking with translates into mouse/keyboard inputs that the game understands. that's weird/hard and perplexing, uh, and considering that "tank peripherals" aren't a thing that exist i can only guess they built them theirselves
which is fucking hilarious because why are they so good. why does the fucking cannon breech have a little dry ice smoke effect when the breech opens like they just shot a shell. what. manual turret traverse crank?? did they build a fucking ready rack!! they're even using the correct phraseology which means one of these mofos read a PDF file
you guys know you can get USB connectable CD, dvd, and blu-ray players right. and you can buy external hard drives with crazy amounts of space for an amount of money that would make the average person from 2009’s head explode bc of how cheap it is. and if you do this and get ripping software such as handbrake for CDs and DVDs and makeMKV for blurays you can both own a physical copy of whatever media you want and make it accessible to yourself no matter where you are. do you guys know this
lots of people are reblogging this and tagging it #piracy—i should clarify, this is not piracy! ripping DVDs and CDs to have your own copy is fully legal, because it’s your legal right to do what you will with your property individually. it only becomes illegal if you then distribute that file on the internet.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is from the Youtube channel 'Natural Habitat Shorts' and I would 100% recommend it to everyone!!! Here is another excellent one:
