Ooo tough!! I feel a little bad sorting my children but I do admit there are some I dote on more than others. First one is definitely my favorite but the rest are in no particular order
- Thyme - I draw him constantly. He's the main character of my most ambitious project. He has the most of my teenage issues. He's the first one who comes to mind when people ask about my OCs. I am a little biased towards him he's my special boy
- Aria - Thyme's best friend and his main foil. She is cool and awesome. Once when I was drawing her during lunch a fat black girl who sat with us stared at her for a good few minutes and was visibly excited when I mentioned Aria is autistic (she was also autistic). It's an incredible feeling knowing I made a character someone could see themself in
- Goby - Thyme's other main foil. He's connected symbolically with the ocean as a whole so he's extra special to me. He and Thyme also have one of my favorite dynamics which I hope I get to put on paper properly one day
- Riptide - Kind of a placeholder name but it's the only name I can think of for her. She's the main mer in a merfolk-based story I'm making and is also in lesbians with the main human. She has a sort of rough personality that I find interesting to explore
- Winnie - The main human that Riptide is in lesbians with. Her design of her 8-year-old self came to me in a vision and ever since then I've been attached to her. She's actually the pov character in that choose-your-own-adventure series of polls I did a little while back!! The main story takes place when she's 18 though-- the polls were for the prologue.

- Cicadas
I just think they're neat!! I'm not actually superstitious but I like to consider finding one of their shells as a sign of good luck. They also sound beautiful, I love hearing them on walks or when I'm chilling in my room
2. Crickets
My namesake lol. My area had a population explosion of crickets a few years back and I was the only one in my school brave enough to just scoop them up with my hands and carry them outside. They're lovely!!! And similar to cicadas I love hearing their songs. (The reason they're my name is bc my dad nicknamed me Cricket before I realized I was nonbinary, and I liked it enough to just make it my actual name when I came out!)
3. Wasps
I have an appreciation for them! I know to leave them be and the most they've ever done to me is either explore my backpack or get in my face to chase me away from a nest. Strong independent women /silly
4. Moths
There's so much variety and they're all so beautiful!! And they can also be a little silly (Tripod moth.... goofy looking bastard). Honestly looking at one I feel a little like I'm looking at a fuzzy animal like a dog or perhaps a kitten. Wonderful little things
5. Hornet Hollow Knight/Silksong
I think she's cool and also she's been my favorite character for years

Honestly, what I always go for first is silhouette. A general shape that you can draw over and over again and becomes recognizable as Them. I don't have super clear advice for achieving this one other than just drawing a lot gksbgn
But another big one I think is to not force something if it isn't working out. If you're trying something new and it feels wrong whenever you draw it, or you're never satisfied with it, then you're allowed to leave it be. It's not super concrete advice, but essentially it boils down to "go with your gut" for character design
I need to drive to best buy. Bug me. I have to do this. No other option but this month. I need this PC. Even the car can be fixed later, this PC is only possible in 2026's first months. I hate time limits. In other news, Deltarune! From it, get Hip Shop.
