I have so so so much love, respect, admiration and just AWE for both Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams. They're both just incredible actors and they poured their whole hearts and souls into their characters. I haven't seen such truth in a performance in a long time.
What I really love is that, while they are both equally amazing, their relationships to their characters are very different.
Connor did so much work on learning Russian and perfecting the accent, but also in channeling Ilya through EVERYTHING - the tone and timbre of his voice, his facial expressions, his posture, his body language, his gestures. He completely transforms. Connor EMBODIES Ilya. He IS Ilya. Connor is gone. Ilya has emerged from some alternate dimension through a portal that is Connor's body. I don't know how to explain it except that it feels like Connor just becomes an entirely different person. Like Connor is Connor and Connor is Ilya but Connor and Ilya are completely separate entities. But Ilya is a very real, fully formed, living, breathing entity who does exist in his own right.
Hudson probably had more influence on Shane's character than Rachel or even Jacob. I think that Rachel was acquaintances with Shane and Jacob is friends with Shane, but Hudson just KNOWS Shane on such an intimate level because Shane is a part of Hudson. Hudson truly brought Shane to life. He created Shane. I cannot see Shane existing without Hudson. Hudson and Shane are one. Not because Hudson, when playing Shane, is playing himself. Like, it's very obvious that Hudson and Shane are different people. And Hudson is an incredible actor. He's not playing himself. But it's like...he is giving himself so Shane can live. Whatever makes up Shane, as a person, is intrinsically, undeniably, made from Hudson material.
Have I mentioned that I am in AWE?
