Hello, visitors old and new. I am Spiral Shells, a nonbinary artist from California, USA.

My primary drives for making art are self-understanding, truth seeking, catharsis, healing and spiritual growth. So while you may find Pokemon fanart and uglycute creatures here, you will also encounter art dealing with heavier themes, such as BODY HORROR, MEDICAL TRAUMA, DEPRESSION, SUICIDAL IDEATION, RELIGIOUS TRAUMA, and other generally unpleasant or disturbing things. If an encounter with any of these might ruin your day, please proceed with caution.

I block blank blogs, hate speech blogs and AI "art" blogs.

My day job really hit me like a truck this year, but I still managed to crank out some personal art I'm really proud of. Big thanks in particular to @bowelfly for inviting me to participate in some art telephone games. I'm amazed at the strength of inspiration I can tap into just by drawing and playing with fellow artists, and I'm really grateful to be a part of such an excellent group. I had no idea how much I needed a community like this, and I'm so excited to make more art with you all in the new year.

2025 was a hard year in a lot of big ways, but the small joys really added up this time.

Happy new year, all you lovely people. May you find inspiration, love and peace in the days to come.

I've been struggling to find work and supporting myself as best I can through doing doobles here, but I've fallen behind on a bunch of payments and I'm in danger of losing everything.

I've set a goal of $1000 which doesn't even cover everything because I don't want to scare people away. I've tried to continuously promote my ko-fi before things got so bad, but I haven't been getting many hits and I'm very desperate, so anything helps!

Also if you know any studios that are hiring or if you have any networking connections you think might be able to help me find work, please hmu!

My phone already got turned off, but that's the least important thing. I'd really like to be able to pay off utilities before they cut my internet and power because then I truly won't be able to do anything including look for a job and provide and collect on doobles.

California followers, please consider signing this petition in support of bill AB 412. It would require GenAI developers to inform copyright holders of how their materials are being used, and is supported by the Animation Guild and the Concept Art Association.

I know a lot of us (myself included) would prefer an outright ban, but I think increased transparency is an important first step in the process of regulating GenAI and protecting creative jobs in CA.
