It`s so sad that after two years since showranners killed Eleanor off, there is so few Eleanor-centric fix it. Her death feels like a hole in heart, and looking at tons post-canon fic without Eleanor hurts as hell again. Sorry for stupid message, I miss her so much.

i definitely agree and understand. in general i’ve never read a lot of black sails fanfic, because i felt there was never enough content about my faves (the ladies, particularly eleanor).
i miss eleanor a lot too, and her death really got to me tbh. to the point where i still have not finished s4, because it hurts too much to continue without her. black sails means a lot to me, and so do its characters. eleanor in particular, i feel very close to emotionally, i guess because i spent so long defending her and trying to understand her.
i think i’ll be perpetually bitter about her death and lack of an arc in s4. they did her, and her fans, incredibly dirty and it still hurts. and it’s like they don’t get it, you know? i remember seeing a quote of i think it was dan shotz, about how eleanor got to be a badass before she died because she shot and killed someone and i’m still just???? the whole thing is so wrong on so many levels. the implication that being a badass justified her death, like, she died but at least she got to be a badass, i guess? like that makes it okay? the idea that she needs to kill someone and commit violence to be a badass (newsflash she’s always been a badass, just in virtue of being who she was in the world she lived in). it all reeks of the ‘strong female character’ bullshit. and idk, but it’s incredibly disappointing that a show like black sails, that had done so well in breaking that mold with their women, just resorted to that stereotypical crap.
I miss your post about Eleanor! They were one of best things in that fandom on tumblr for me.

Thank you for re-colouring that David photoshoot with the Wrap! That lighting was horrific, no matter how they dressed it up with David being cute with flowers. You can see those harsh lights reflected too easily in his dark eyes, and it makes them look like they're focusing weirdly or something. I wish photogs would take their subject more into consideration. One size doesn't fit all. For all we complain about TUA lighting, they at least took Diego & Allison's skin tones into consideration.

and yeah, you’re absolutely right, he was so whitewashed, it’s honestly sad. he deserves better. 😒 it’s mind-boggling to me, because the pics could honestly look so much better if they didn’t overexpose the crap out of them? like, not to toot my own horn because it’s not what this is about, but the pics are so much more beautiful when you have a warmer colouring and his natural dark skin gets to shine.

i actually left quite a few months ago. it wasn’t over anything special, it was just that being part of the blog was too time consuming for me and i felt like i didn’t have the energy to keep running it and posting on it. i could have stayed on the blog, but i would feel terrible being a part of it and not actually contributing, so i decided to leave.

my post definitely didn’t appear in the #silverflint tag. it may, however, have appeared in tumblr search and for that i apologize, but there’s not much i can do.
i did the best i could to avoid it, but idk how tumblr works anymore tbh. as far as i know, tumblr search works within the first ten tags in a post (this could have changed), and i avoided using the #anti silverflint tag within those (hence me tagging it with #/, #//, etc. to reach the ten tags). i have no idea if this works tho. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
i don’t want it to appear in the search but i also always tag my negativity with anti tags for blacklisting purposes. i would suggest blacklisting #anti silverflint to avoid seeing posts like this in the future. or blocking me. whichever works.
Can I just say that your post about the odd silverflint slant to fandom was spot on + it had been weighing on me. As a black queer woman who has regularly been burned by fandom spaces, it was so nice to see depictions of black women being loved. Then I got to fandom and it was like a slap in the face. What also hurts is white queer people using discourse language as to why a black woman/white man ship was somehow harmful. Tl;Dr thank you for your post. The reaction only highlights the issue more

i’m so sorry you have to deal with all of it too. it’s disheartening to see that even when the representation exists, it is either ignored, or people will find ways to make it seem like they are harmful, like you said.
i’m assuming the black woman/white man ship you mention is silvermadi, and they are lovely. people are upset madi is getting in the way of their ship, but it won’t change the fact that she is amazing and that silvermadi’s pretty cute.

also, although it may not be of much help, or maybe you already know about it, shortly after s3 ended, we in the fandom created some specific tags just for the ladies. the main one is #bsladies, and there are also character specific ones: #max defense squad and #eleanor guthrie defense squad. you can check the posts about them here and here to get more info.
this also leads me to ask (to people in general), since i don’t navigate the general tags very often i’m not really aware, but is there a need for a defense tag for madi? is there a lot of hate or even just clutter around her? i assume it’s probably hard to find content about madi in general, since she only has a 1st name. let me know if it’s necessary, please? i’d be more than happy to create one.
I think that Eleanor will die and Rogers with go back to his wife. I feel like half th3 fandom wants her dead so the writers will believe beer dying is satisfying. And they set up that parallel between her and Flint of being foremost pragmatists who get carried away in love and have that destructive "fighting for the sake of fighting" streak within them. And I definitely thing Flint is toast (T_T)
i think it’s the fact that everyone wants and is expecting eleanor to die that actually give me hope that she won’t.
i’ve said this before, but eleanor dying (particularly at the hands of jack and blackbeard) would be incredibly predictable at this point and, for me, shitty writing.
people can say what they want about the writers, but i don’t think they’ve ever been afraid of going against what the fans want. v*ne was a huge fan favourite (as well as v*neeleanor), and they had no problem killing him off last season, as well as completely throwing v*neeleanor into the trash can.
as far as the parallels between eleanor and flint go, i do believe they are both sides of the same coin and you are definitely right on that, but as of right now, they’ve diverged somewhat. eleanor still has her purpose. she’s still fighting for nassau. flint has given up on that tho, he is “fighting for the sake of fighting”, like you said, but eleanor isn’t.
i do believe flint is going to die too tho. if flint doesn’t die in the end, he will either live miserably or find a way to kill himself, because after he has his fall out with silver, he will revert to the state he was in when he lost miranda, and the man was suicidal at that point. plus he won’t have the war against england anymore so he can fight for something and attempt to keep moving.
at this point, i’m just crossing my fingers and praying eleanor and max make it tbh. they’re the two characters i’m the most fearful for, because i believe they are the most vulnerable. i mean, i have a good idea of who will probably live or die from everyone else (except maybe anne), or i just don’t care what happens to them. but eleanor and max are original characters and the writers have more liberty to do what they want with them.
sorry bother but how do you think eleanor will be at the end? I may be the few that roots that she kills that bastard and gets freedom and peace at least(your blog is a blessom for bs ladies)

regarding eleanor, i honestly only hope she is alive and well at the end of the series. i don’t think she’ll kill rogers, mostly because i doubt they’ll kill him at all.
i’m always rooting for eleanor, and unless she does something truly horrendous, i’ll continue to do so. ideally, i’d want her to give up on nassau and run away with max. but i also know that nassau is an incredibly important part of eleanor’s identity. it defines her completely. you can’t have eleanor guthrie without nassau. max once said, “i suppose i should have seen this, that somehow your grip on this place would be too strong to be denied by a king, his laws, or even your death”, and she’s right.
now, idk what the fandom’s opinion on the eleanor/woodes marriage and the whole “submissive wife” role is (and honestly i don’t think i want to know), but personally, tho she obviously cares for him as well, i believe a large part of the reason she is willing to fulfill said role is because of nassau.
eleanor is always doing what she believes is the best for that place. every time. and in this case, that comes through woodes rogers. rogers is the best bet to achieve a peaceful and “civilized” state on the island, so she does what she must to keep him in the good graces of the people and help maintain his authority, because if he falls, then the whole thing falls with him. it’s a sacrifice she makes for nassau, one of many she has had to make through the show.
sorry for the mini meta, but the bottom line is, i don’t think eleanor will ever give up on nassau, so my ideal future for her is unlikely. realistically, it could either be her downfall and something happens to her, or she lives as woodes’ wife, with whatever it may entail. i just don’t ever see her leaving, not willingly.
nassau gives eleanor purpose, for me. an eleanor without nassau is like a flint without thomas and miranda. taking on max’s words once again, she’d be adrift.
but, the writers are also always surprising me and leading things to places i didn’t expect them, so maybe all i’m saying is complete crap, who knows? let’s just hope she makes it out unscathed.
