explicitly saying a huge part of mels arc this season is discovering the extent to which she’s neglected herself in favor of others for so long and then showing frank not just as the only person who has ever taken care of her but as the only one who has ever tried at all and mel as the only one who was genuinely excited he was back with no caveats and no judgement when he did confide in her showing him he still has someone in his corner no matter what he did or who he let down he didn’t let her down and never has….. inextricably tying their storylines together …..but it’s not romantic. sure

Okay there was genuinely no reason for them to zoom in so pointedly close to Langdon’s hand (ring visible) splayed on the back of Mel’s head while he was examining her unless they didn’t want our attention specifically right there. It could have been a reaction shot of Mel’s face over Langdon’s shoulder, a respectable distance. They CHOSE that close up, followed by an even closer shot of Langdon’s face, I refuse to be gaslit that they are not evoking intimacy here
yeah the shots of his left hand are egregious lol like... the man is right handed. in s1 he opens his locker with his right hand.
s2e1 - frank langdon right handed
this season however!! the second one of his hands is in frame its the left one. like, extended close up shots of it. obviously we have these infamous shots from s2e1 with no ring (two different shots with different set ups. this is not a continuity error). again, he is right handed and opens his locker with his right hand in s1. there is no reason they couldnt have filmed this from the opposite side using his right hand, theyre telling us something (DIVORCE)

and now in s2e2 we get some veeeery pointed shots of the ring being on. again, he's using his left hand when they couldve flipped the set up and had him use his right (which would be more natural) the framing of this shot is BANANAS and im gonna think about it forever

and its all so crazy bc this scene is so intimate! theyre alone in this room with a closed door and he's confessing and apologising and they make a point of showing off the ring and it doesnt even matter
i mean, when the cops come in he has to pull away bc hes practically on the bed with her he has to push back to sit on his chair bc he was leaning in so close his hands and knee were on the bed

ok frank langdon hair anon returning for duty - is it just me or does it look like he pushed his hair back between getting signaled over by dana and actually treating Mel in the room? a symbol of nerves perhaps??? much to chew on
HIIIIIIIIII hello yes my instant thoughts after the ep were hair analysis bc his hair is only like that for the once scene! pushed back off his face, similar to the hair in ep14/15 in season one and when he talks to robby in ep1 season 2, and its so significant and intentional.
again, he pushes his hair back to seem more serious and mature (one of the words i want to use is 'sober' but not in that sense but also... i guess in that sense) and is especially used in moments where hes discussing his addiction. the floppy hair makes him look younger and more fun and carefree and this is not one of those moments. he goes into the scene knowing this is his chance to be one on one with mel and hes ready to present himself in a more serious manner. he isnt convinced hes worthy of forgiveness, especially not the forgiveness mel offers him which is so unquestioning.

obsessed with everything about this scene. langdon finally out of triage jail immediately clocking dana making eyes at him. dana KNOWING to make eyes at langdon when mel is concerned. him power walking over all like hiiiiiii sweetheart heyyy im making a joke for u to put u at ease im telegraphing it very clearly with my face remember how we used to joke that one other time we saw each other nearly a year ago? and mel is all like omg i do! I do remember :DD his lil tiny uptick of the mouth when he says its an inside thing. like that explains anything that's going on here. and then inside the room ok so follow my finger yeah no just ignore the comically ill fitting wedding ring thats on the brink of falling off at any given moment. yeah no just look at my finger NOT!!!! THE!!!! RING!!!!!!! also no i didnt fix my hair before we came in here what are u talking about. anyway can we have a moment rn. can we just really quick have a real moment im doing this 12 step program and by god u will hear about it! im giving repented disgraced youth pastor rn and im so sorry I hope u can look past my failings and mel is all like u have done nothing wrong in ur life ever know this <3 and then the police come in and frank is transforming into a metaphysical wall between her and the world like full on soldier protecting sleeping child dot jpeg babe dont worry ill do the talking. "the er can be a little bright and noisy" hoemygodddddddd frank. HOEMYGODDDDDDDD did u remember every little thing she said?? did u go over that shift again and again. the only bright spot during the worst day of ur life being this new resident who just radiated goodness and compassion and its so easy. so easy being gentle and good around her. did u like yourself more than u have in a long time when u were with her frank. did u like who she made u into. who u wanted to be to her. FRANK. I know this scene was only like 2 mins long but i need to lie down forever now 👍
