Meet the Artist 💫

This never made it here and it's a new year so why not. Hi my name is Pen and I typically represent myself as a giant awful chicken or a rabbit-eared Coyote and live/work in PA with my partner and my cat who is named after a dead Nouveau painter.

For fun I run a blog about my love for mass-produced paperbacks at @paperbackpictures :)

The Beast himself is below the cut.

Well I guess I'll try Sphynxposting later- for some reason no matter how I resize it the image refuses to load properly? Mysteries.

Remembered it's my blog and I can do what I want. If you'd like to see the (albeit small) collection of photos I have of novels I've found in the wild they're all uploaded to a Google drive.

In a world where I have infinite space and wealth, I'd own all of these and would have high resolution scans of the covers but photos will have to do. Here's some favorites, too!

More books uploaded to the drive! Additionally most of these photos have come from In Between Pages (the next chapter for the York Emporium). The original owner recently retired, moved locations and are reopened in a wonderful new spot with a new owner! The place is incredible.

New books are uploaded at the link above, but here's a few from today.

Drive has been updated with just a couple more books! Two scific covers added to the mix, I'm hoping to find more another time.

You guessed it: the drive has been updated again. There's definitely at least two repeats but everything else should be new.

Getting more scifi mixed in- I happened to have time to stop at my favorite book store so of course I took time for photos!

Had an incredible day at a new bookstore a friend took me to (Wonder Books in Hagerstown, MD!) and MAN was there so many amazing books there I've come home with. Too many. But also that means the drive is updated with more photos! Here's a peek:

Drive updated again! Just a handful this time. I'm really partial to the cyber Dolphin and the giant floating Sorcerer skull that's shooting lasers at a guy riding a spider. Good finds today

The drive is updated with 45 new books! Also a reminder that there's the blog @paperbackpictures where I post individual covers with artist credits. Honorable mention of this trip:

This thread is getting ridiculously long but I'm kind of committed to the bit at this point. The drive has been updated again!

Lots of creatures on covers this go around.

Another day another drive update! 46 new books to feast your eyes upon. There's probably some repeats as always but enjoy.

New year new drive update! Quite a few excellent creatures are now up in the drive and as always you can also check out @paperbackpictures for my slow accreditation and posting of books.

These are from 2022 and somehow never made it off of Patreon but I still think they're pretty fun and for the most part things align with some ideas I have now with regards to gear (and I still like the colors I used here, hah.) I'll probably soon revisit these concepts but I'm still posting some older things meanwhile!

Most of my day has been relegated to cleaning but my partner apparently scanned my merfolk sketches so I thought I'd throw some color blocking on it for post.

I have not really been "revisiting" merfolk as much as I've just been looking more closely at seal and otters and doodling some faces from that. Trying to make mutton chops work on a seal face is an interesting challenge.

I saw a couple of folks I follow/mutuals posting some 2025 retrospectives and I struggle with sharing anything vaguely personal online but figured why not, the past three hears have kind of beat me to shit and I'm finally crawling out of it.

Everything below the cut!

I want to thank everyone who's said something, but also good to hear I'm not the only one in the rut of trying to get back to personal work. Wishing that next years retrospective is about writing/character related things now that I've been putting pen to paper about it and wishing everyone the best themselves with it :)
