if sex work was legal the workers could unionize

I am fully serious about this btw. not "pro sex work" as in "there are no issues whatsoever within the industry", but "pro sex work" as in "these are jobs and the workers should be a) allowed to work and b) protected from their customers by the law"

people responding to this with stuff like "but that would just put sex workers in the same exploited position as uber drivers, cleaners, migrant workers, etc" and yes! good point! reform all of it! keep going!

I remember a while back there was a post that was like "people saying sex work is just work and all work exploits the body, like, my retail customers/office clients can't just sexually assault or kill me, though"

And. Like. Yeah. Because if they did, you, a worker in a legal industry, would be able to call the cops. Because you (usually) wouldn't be risking your own arrest by doing so. If sex work wasn't illegal, sex workers would not have to fear being arrested (or assaulted by the cops themselves, who know they can just claim they were solicited) for just doing their job.

Because retail workers and office workers and industry workers DO get assaulted, actually! And murdered. The difference is that the person assaulting them is the only one committing a crime, so when the cops show up they don't have to, like, arrest the guy who punched the Macy's attendant for assault, and then ALSO arrest the Macy's attendant for soliciting sales of clothing. If the manager of an office sexually assaults one of their direct reports, and the direct report calls the cops, it might not result in an arrest because of how awful most justice systems are about sexual assault, but the direct report at least doesn't have to worry that the narrative will be "I'm a law-abiding citizen and this worker whose labor I exploit is doing something illegal," such that they get arrested for being an office worker.

Also, if you're working at a food truck and a customer just doesn't pay, they have committed the crime of stealing from you. If you're a sex worker and a customer doesn't pay, YOU are the one committing a crime by demanding that they do so.

Sex work must be legalized in order to protect sex workers.

said this on bluesky but:

i genuinely encourage non black people to engage with this, who might be worried they can't because of the word "nigga" because they feel like it's overstepping. the only way it would be overstepping is saying it to me when ur not black, but please don't be afraid to engage with black art.

i kinda get annoyed when non black people police other non blacks on how to engage with black culture because it creates a problem where non black people avoid us all together which can be extremely isolating and create even MORE tension and overall being uneducated.
