A lot has happened, huh?
Phos shattering Euclase was only expected.
Phos trusted Euclase once already when they said almost the exact same thing to them.
Whether intentional or not, Euclase preyed upon the one weakness Phos has: their wish to be needed, to be useful.
And the first time, you can see how much their words impacted Phos.
So Phos decided to trust Euclase and their words. The raid had failed, Cairngorm - the one Phos had described as the one whom they trusted the most, had turned their back on them and adding to that, Barbata told them the only way to bring back the old gems is to massacre the admirabalis.
Euclase was the only hope left Phos could cling to, who could allow them to see Adamant and ask him to pray.
And yet.
Not only was Phos immediately attacked and shattered - when they tried one last desperate time to reach out to Adamant, what happened?
And what did Euclase do, the gem who had told Phos they needed them, that they should move on together without leaving anyone behind, the one whom Phos decided to put their trust in? The only one who seemed agreeable to talk it out with them?
Nothing.
Yes, it was the other gems who shattered Phos and it was Cinnabar who came up with the idea that had put Phos out of commission for over two hundred years.
But Euclase was the one who had promised Phos they would hear them out. That they needed them.
Yet when it came down to it, Euclase bowed down to the will of the others and accepted their solution. They decided to not help Phos out.
All they do is lightly lamenting Phos’ fate.
They were sad about the outcome, they tried to convince the other gems to let them talk to Phos again. But none of it mattered because at the very end, Phos was still buried away for centuries.
It doesn’t matter that Euclase is feeling regret over this, it doesn’t matter that they didn’t want this to happen. It still happened.
From Phos’ perspective, Euclase had deceived and lied to them, feeding them pretty but ultimately empty words. They had failed to act upon what they promised. This failure to take proper action has cost Euclase Phos’ already fragile trust.
So Phos will no longer listen to what Euclase has to say.
This is the same thing Euclase said to Phos at the end of the first raid: “Let’s talk, let’s find a solution together.” And Phos recognizes this:
Phos’ expression in these two panels say it all. They echo Euclase’s old words back at them: “You need me?”
Only this time, Euclase’s words mean nothing to Phos - they have already been let down once and it has cost them dearly. This is like a slap in the face for Phos, to be faced with the exact same words once again that they had placed faith in 220 years ago. At the end, I think Euclase would have had a better chance to not be shattered if they hadn’t said this. I’d go as far as to say that Phos probably even felt slightly disappointed with Euclase’s response at the end here. Either because they cannot comprehend how Euclase could seriously believe they would fall for the same lie twice, or because they’re disappointed that Euclase still hasn’t learned anything from last time: that your words only mean something if you can back it up with proper actions. That the reason why it has escalated to this is because they didn’t do what they promised. Euclase doesn’t realize that they contributed to Phos losing it. If they did, they wouldn’t have said this.
So Phos shatters them. The Earth gems had showed Phos no mercy. That’s why Phos will show no mercy either. For no one.
Even my boyfriend that doesn't read the manga says that phos is right

Houseki no Kuni, Chapter 88

Imagine after shattering every single gem Phos finally sits the fug down and completes the encyclopedia
chapter 1: on the war of the three species
Crawling out of the waste to say that I can actually see this happening ? Phos, at the end of all things, the last one alive, the first and last “human” by the end of the story most likely. It would fit for them to start writing down their knowledge of all the things that they had gained, even if they don’t remember initially that they were going to write an encyclopedia.

Mm more theory/thoughts? Expanding on this.
With the way the story is going, I can honestly see continuous worst case scenarios happening until Phos and sensei are the only ones left, possibly only phos, but by then they’ll have most likely acquired the seventh treasure and become “human”. Sensei will pray the lunarians away, the gems will be dust or broken to the point that it would take years to possibly piece them back together.
It’s not unlikely to me that sensei could possibly shut down after that, having preformed some final function or something of the sort.
The question would be, would phos be alone with their knowledge, or would they possibly replace sensei, taking care of gems that fall from the cliff to the beach of beginnings? With no lunarians hunting them, if phos had time to heal, they could take gem society pretty far.
This is all total speculation and I wouldn’t be surprised if none of it turns out to be canon, but I also feel that it would make sense if some of it was! But HNK is unpredictable and whatever happens I love the story wherever it ends up going.
Oh no….. wrong blog…….. whatever…
