Destinytober Day 26: Nightfall

"Nightfall was never quite as dark when the Last City celebrated the Festival of the Lost. Lanterns cast a pastel mosaic over the people; glowing candles illuminated their offerings for the dead." - Tales of the Forgotten, vol. 3, Chapter 21

I dunno if there's any hint of a Canon answer so I thought I'd ask your opinion instead?

When do you first lightbearers first started getting resurrected? One of my ocs was first resurrected just 5-10 years post-collapse but I don't really see why the first lightbearers couldn't have been found right away, save maybe for the chaos and confusion of the collapse making it too difficult for a Ghost to search properly or safely

We don't really know for sure. It's technically possible that it could've happened very quickly for some, but it's simply impossible to know.

Ghosts appeared basically at the same time the Collapse ended, but it probably took time for them to spread around and figure out what they're supposed to be doing. Ghosts didn't really get like... specific directions from the Traveler or anything, they were just made and none of them know their true nature or purpose. They simply discovered this ability to raise the dead they feel a connection to (or out of necessity).

I'd say it probably took a bit for the reasons you listed. The chaos and confusion of the immediate aftermath of the Collapse ending + the Ghosts would take time to come to their senses and spread out + figure out what they're capable of doing and finding someone they could do it with. But I don't think it took too much time either. We just have no way of knowing if that's a couple of days or months or years or decades.

I have a question related to the spread of information within Destiny. I’ve been replaying the D1 campaign and when we encounter the Vex on Venus, the ghost acts like it’s a completely new unknown foe (to him at least). But later, he’s able to draw upon information from the Ishtar Collective and such to understand the Vex.

My question is, how much do Ghosts usually know about the world in general? Do they have databases they each contribute to? Is our ghost just somewhat out of the loop? I understand part of it was probably somewhat of a narrative contrivance so that the player is learning at the same time as the guardian and the ghost, but sometimes it feels like our ghost should have more knowledge.

Ghosts have their own more or less everything, including their own covert group that scouts and reports to the Vanguard, but all of that depends on the Ghost personally. Some may be more in the loop while some may be more out of it. They all have their own interests and personalities to some Ghosts are simply just some little guys who don't really pay much attention.

I do think that our Ghost should've known more, even back in D1, but yeah, I understand that this was most likely for the player's benefit. Even if he didn't have any personal encounters with the Vex (for example, by being primarily Earth-based, there's nothing with the Vex going on there (at least there wasn't for the most part)), he probably would've known about some more prominent events involving the Vex. But then again, that also really depends. So you can definitely just explain it as our Ghost not having been interested in much of that before finding a Guardian, even though personally I think that most Ghosts hear about some major events and information going on. Vex are a little bit of a fringe case, but still.
