So what was the story with the echo of navigation? I completely missed out on that story

Echo of Navigation contained the memory of Oryx as the Witness knew him, so a version of him that didn't yet go through everything he went through. It reactivated the Dreadnaught and also the Taken, but we discovered that the Taken no longer responded to the command of Oryx. The version of him that was in the Echo was quite interesting. He was completely chill with us having killed him, because such is the sword logic, to the point of arguing with Xivu Arath about it.

Needless to say, Xivu and Savathun wanted to get the Echo of Navigation for their own purposes, but the Echo itself seemed to be fairly content when we finally got rid of it, because again, it's just how the sword logic is. We killed Oryx, he deserves to be dead.

There was a lot more going on and I don't want to type too much about all the details, as I highly recommend checking out the whole story on Youtube, if anything then to hear the incredible VA for Oryx. Really good story overall, and also some interesting setups for the future that we'll be dealing with going forward, in particular about the Taken and their new leader (and our knowledge of this entity is as of yet very very minimal). I'd also check out the accompanying lore books from the season: Heresy and Truth (lore books for the seasonal story), and Songs of Descent (this one focuses on the Taken stuff). And of course, all the other lore tabs released during that episode can be viewed on Ishtar.

As a side note, Rite of the Nine stuff was also part of Episode Heresy, in a way, so we got a lot of stuff leading us directly into Edge of Fate and the new saga with this one. Particularly good is the lore book Anamorphosis which details good info about the Nine and Orin breaking away from them which is how Edge of Fate starts.

Sitting here alone, I carve truth onto this husk, drown me in the deep.

Take up the knife. Do you hear it? They yearn for your blade.

When I Take a being, they kneel broken, to discover themselves. They stand, flayed of the weakness that clung to their flesh. Bloodied with potential. Soon, the knife will be in your hand, and the bone — scraped by your blade.

Happy Inktober!
