It took Steve years to come to terms with his own body after the serum, especially since he'd woken up in the new century. He never knew how to deal with attention and forwarded advances in his regards, spending a good part of his early life not deemed worthy of even a spared glance surely didn't help the process. Eventually, it just fell in the background, first due to the fact that he'd been on a run for a while, then things had happened too quickly to ponder over such topics.

Even when days had been easier - as easy as they could be for a superhero, it hadn't occurred to him that one of his teammates took a certain interest in staring at him. Or, well, maybe it did occur to him, but at the time he couldn't wander along the trail of thoughts that staring led to. He didn't let himself be deluded by such coincidences.

Because the teammate in question was Tony Stark. During their years of working together, Steve had noticed the lingering, lascivious glances the other man not-so-subtly had used to throw at him. However, the brunet had always had a habit of flirting with whoever he thought was attractive, although his intentions weren't serious most of the time, so Steve had quickly come to the conclusion that it didn't mean much, that it was just an unspoken compliment for its own sake and that was all. As soon as Steve had processed that, he'd decisively purposed that he wouldn't have listened to his treacherous heart. Later on, stuff got complicated and the rest was history nowadays.

Yet, Tony had always made him feel… seen, wanted. In a way Steve rarely felt comfortable with.. And after their reconciliation about eight months ago, that longing staring was back and Steve felt electrified by that interest because Tony had the power of making a person the center of all his attention with his alluring movements and gratifying words.

Lately, that attention somehow carried a deeper layer, and Steve couldn't fully grasp it. Or maybe, it'd always been there and Steve just hadn't noticed it before.

He’d sure noticed the strange, tangible shift in their relationship as soon as they started living in the new, downsized Avengers Tower again. After the battle against Thanos, Tony had faced a long recovery, but he'd always been a stubborn man so of course he’d beaten death, too; even so, the aftermath of what he’d endured was plain to see, the scars that ran from what remained of his flesh arm to his collarbone and neck were proof enough that Tony Stark was first and foremost an incredible man and hero. And Steve had lost count of the amount of hours he'd spent next to Tony's bed at the hospital while waiting for him to be back on his feet. He’d felt he’d owned him at least that, and, well, he’d actually wanted to be there for him, as to fix the damage between them for real, and not only because there was a threat in sight. When that day had finally come, Tony hadn't waited to get home before scribbling notes about the new prosthetic for his missing limb, that’d turned out to be inspired by his Mark 85 suit in design.

Once that problem had been solved and Tony had started sporting his brand new red and gold arm, he confessed to Steve that he adamantly wanted to bring the team, which had grown exponentially since their first mission in New York all those years ago, back together. And Steve couldn't not agree to that plan. Even though Tony and he weren't actively on the field anymore, especially Tony, they still put their experience and knowledge at disposal to the new generation of superheroes.

The oddest aspect of that new found reality was the normality of it. Steve wasn't really used to being still and taking a breath, but he'd been slowly learning. And Tony helped with that. The two started spending time together again, even more than the past, and one of the activities they found themselves doing was walking around the city.

I like when someone becomes a part of your daily routine. It’s nice to talk to someone who wants to talk to you just as much without anything feeling forced.

[guy whose bedtime is approaching fast] I need to write one billion words right now. and draw everything that has ever existed.

2026

DO THE ABSOLUTE MINIMUM AT WORK. MAKE ART THAT HURTS. ABANDON ALL GUILT AND SHAME. DONT LET THEM KILL YOUR SOUL. BECOME YOUR OWN PERSONAL GOD. GROW SPIKES. DONT LET THEM KILL YOUR SOUL

How it feels to settle into bed and close my eyes and return to the totally made-up scenario I was last engrossed in

"I need to stop starting fandom projects so I stop disappointing people."

  • it's okay to disappoint people
  • it's okay to work slowly
  • it's okay to let yourself rest
  • it's okay to drop projects

Stop treating yourself like you are the workers at a fast food franchise.

Your writing is a hobby, don't let it turn into a source of guilt, shame and frustration instead of a source of joy.
