Thank you @battlefairies for sending me this chair by Stephanie Temma Hier.

After careful consideration of the question “why does it have forks,” I have a suitable answer.

This is a swear (swan chair). When you are out of all other swears, this one still gives a fork.

Finally, the original has crossed my dash.

@strangezeroz welcome to tumblr where the app decides when you can be gifted with the sight of og memes, you cannot look for these yourself via the search engine, you won’t find them, you have to wait to be gifted them

For those of you who might be new here, Tumblr has no algorithm, legendary memes are brought to your dash by mutuals like pet cats bringing you dead birds.

I’m still really obsessed with Ratthi for shutting down Gurathin’s argument that Murderbot was only PRETENDING to watch Sanctuary Moon by tricking Murderbot into having an emotional reaction in front of other people by lying to its face about Sanctuary Moon. A very funny and very clever move but also one that could only be pulled off by someone who is himself familiar enough with Sanctuary Moon to know how to piss off a Sanctuary Moon superfan in 5 seconds or less. An icon and a legend.

And It Worked.

if my journey into booktube is teaching me anything it's that much in the way that the mass-produce commercial object of the book is often fetishized as having innate cultural and intellectual value by virtue of Being A Book, many "bookish content creators" seem to fancy themselves as having something innately intelligent and interesting to say solely because they are Talking About Books

I actually don't think that pearl clutching about romance novels and catering to people's generalized anxiety that tiktok is Definitely Uniquely Bad And Ruining Society, Somehow is the hard-hitting intelligentsia analysis you seem to think it is

normal stuff in the replies

I don't say this lightly but if you're going to just unironically parrot 19th century gripes about the dangers reading for entertainment instead of intellectual improvement I do think you're a strong contender to be the next chairperson of the high council of clowns. furthermore the assertion that someone reading for fun is in any way a "harmful... to reading as a pastime" is frankly absurd and rooted in the exact thing I was describing in the original post re: people jacking themselves off to the illusion of intellectual superiority conferred by a mass market product.

Thank you for this post! Some of the smuttiest books I’ve ever read were actual stunning case studies in mental health, interpersonal dynamics, and social issues. Things can be more than one thing.

it's also fine if they're just porn, for the record. writing or reading something to jack off about it is fine. they can actually just be that one thing without warranting the hysteria train.

I don’t care if you read smut or not but you CAN NOT! Repeat CAN NOT be potential-maximizing-self-development-focused every second of the day!!! Your brain simply does not work that way! The research is ample!

And the very best way to refresh your brain so it CAN do self growth stuff is to have relaxing fun! Like reading for fun! That is good for your brain regardless of literary value.

Eschewing simple enjoyment is some Calvinist nonsense. Targeting smut specifically only adds to this.

And before anyone pulls “but you can go too far-“ yeah! Sure! But if your complaining that reading smut for fun is wrecking people’s brains or lives or whatever as a knee jerk reaction to a tumblr post you are likely so far on the other end of this bell-curve that you are being way too weird about it to have any objective view on where those lines are and should move yourself over to a kinder and more psychologically sound viewpoint on the subject before you try to speak on the matter to total strangers, much less lecture them.
