I really like that movie based on a book and directed by Guillermo del Toro with religious motives about a grieving old man who decides to replicate humanity but it suddenly comes alive and he has to suffer the consequences and accidentally projects his own family issues into the undead thing who then has to suffer the death of all his friend's and his maker and the story ends with his decision to appreciate life. Oh, and also, there's a big explosion and an angel is constantly haunting the narrative. BUT ☝️ The undead boy makes friends with animals <3

- ridiculously prominent brow bones that make your friendly neighborhood humanoid monster look pissed when they're just sad
- possible chronic headaches from visible sources (Hellboy cuts his horns off and keeps them stumped because not only are they cursed, they're heavy as fuck at full length. the creature has fissures all over his body where he could literally bleed if his blood pressure is high enough; his forehead alone has three)
- Liz. yes, Liz. and the awkward but resolvable dynamic with the nice bitchy monster that she does understand more than anyone else. Liz gets to give the monster a hug
- monster is jealous when Liz makes friends with a regular guy who is himself decent with her. calm down big boy, he probably likes you too
- dramatic fiery telenovela explosion where a main character gets thrown out
- red and blue. Hellboy and Abe are called Red and Blue; Liz's fire is usually blue. Victor and the creature dress up in red and blue (the mossy spine coat!); Harlander and William are blue to Victor's red
- inevitably dying fathers but the natural causes are not the ones to take them out
- Liz dies somewhere snowy. one of them gets revived at least
- the death and resurrection bit is already a GDT favorite but in Hellboy we do have that one literal human sandbag mook with stitches on the skin who needs to be overkilled just to get him out of your way. Frankenstein just has the monster
- your friendly neighborhood humanoid monster looks adult but is emotionally a manchild who desperately needs a good buddy (apart from Liz) to keep him anchored. pls
- a thing for animals. Frankenstein monster is Snow White and [insert whatever 2000s Barbie animation you think I was thinking of here]. Hellboy is a crazy cat lady
- Doug Jones, aka Abe Sapien, is the reason why Jacob Elordi signed up to play GDT's Frankenstein monster at all (via Pan's Labyrinth)
- monster defies his intended raison d'être. Hellboy almost brings about the end of the world but aborts thanks to Myers and his puppy dog eyes (and a good aim with that rosary). Frankenstein creature is supposed to be a macho supersoldier whatever but ends up being an open emotional trainwreck who prefers Converse to VANS (“violence against nature” strategies) if you know what I mean
- their leading cast is mistakable for Spiritbox
