I drew this as a love letter from a mixed kid to my IloIlo heritage- Asin Tibuok is an almost extinct heritage food of the Ilonggo people. Asin Tibuok is salt that is produced by soaking coconut husks in pits near the shore. It’s extremely difficult to make- It takes a week to fill just one coconut husk. This salt is very rare and the tradition of creating this salt perseveres only in specific regions of Visayas, one of the major islands of the archipelago.

In the Philippines, Mangoes are often eaten with salt, and it’s considered a staple Merienda, or an afternoon snack.

Hope this fact encourages people to help us preserve our culture

We visited some relatives who all in on some deep right-wing conspiracy theories over the holiday, and one thing I noticed, is that none of their conspiracy theories require them to do anything. All they are told to do is keep watching videos or reading posts, or keeping tabs on forums and watch it all play out.

The truth IS going to come out… sometime soon. Probably in the next six months, maybe. The medbeds ARE coming! In a year or two. No need to see a doctor about a very common and treatable condition before it gets worse and disables you. Just watch and wait, and everything will work out without you having to lift a finger.

And what’s really troubling to me, is that I see people on the left also drifting towards that same attitude.

“The Epstein Files will be released and everyone will turn against him.” “The economy will continue to suck for young and working people, and everyone will turn against him…” “People will turn against him for attacking Venezuela…” Just watch and wait, and everything will work out without you having to lift a finger.

None of that includes a plan for improving things after “everyone turns against him.” None of that addresses the problems with disinformation and misinformation and radicalization that are fucking up our country, and the broader world.

The only effective counter seems to be organizing and talking with people in person. That takes time and work. That takes empathy. That takes meeting people where they’re at and politely listening to their concerns and taking those concerns seriously, even if they are different from yours or less urgent to you than yours. It does NOT allow for everyone to sit back and wait for things to improve on their own.

It doesn’t have to be huge, but people do need to start building the communities and networks we need to fix this shit. Throw a potluck get-together for the neighbors on your block and chat with them. Find a candidate who has a chance to win your congressional seat or state legislative seat and whose policies you like well enough, and go volunteer for them at least once a week. Find a church or organization in your area that’s helping immigrants and show up and help. Start going to events for the LGBTQ community in your area. Get to know the people in your community and build connections and relationships with them. Because we will not get out of this mess by watching and waiting for deliverance.

I don't care what her occupation was. I don't care whether she was a US citizen. I don't care whether she complied with ICE's demands or not. Even if she was an unemployed non citizen actively resisting arrest, no one should get away with brutally gunning her down in the street.

First the clean water act, now NEPA (National environmental policy act)... I'm so fucking pissed they are just stripping away literal decades of hard work and causing irreversible damage to the environment.

Yes regulations make the government work slower, THAT'S THE POINT. Anything the government does has a huge impact, so things need to be planned carefully, which takes time. Governments need to take time and care when creating/deciding things, so most problems are prevented in advance (of course this administration cut all prevention funding so they could care less about that). Stakeholders also need to be given time to provide their own input. You can't just bulldoze shit and say you'll fix it later, especially when it comes to peoples health and fragile ecosystems. Once a military base is built over a wetland they aren't going to later tear it down to restore the wetland. They'll shrug their shoulders, say oh well, and blame it on dems and gay people when the surrounding area eventually floods due to there no longer being a wetland to act as a buffer. Once a species goes extinct it's not coming back (no you can't just clone it, even if that was viable for most species you still wouldn't have anywhere to put them since you already destroyed their habitat, they'll just go extinct again! Also their genetics will be fucked due to having a small genetic pool)

(And yes, many religious groups do actually blame queer people for natural disasters, that's not a strawman)

If you have achieved something, please remember to observe a mandatory period of basking in the warm glow of your achievement like a lizard on a stone, lest you teach your brain that effort is futile, actually, because it didn't get to enjoy its happy chemicals, so, naturally, nothing good ever comes of trying. (And no, avoiding punishment is not a reward!)

I recommend, like, 5% of basking time in relation to whatever time you invested into achieving the thing minimum. And if you can't make your own bask, friend-brought is fine (= tell your friends!).
