Phainon & Anaxa Relationship Analysis; The Importance of Them to Each Other

hi hello! the long-awaited phainon/anaxa relationship analysis i promised like. months ago, is finally here...

like i had stated before, this will focus more on their relationship in a general sense, but topics regarding them and the erudition and destruction will still be brought up. listed below are the titles of the topics discussed/each section:

  1. There's Never Been a True Authority Dynamic
  2. Phainon's Humanity, Anaxa's Reassurance, and the Vice Versa
  3. Anaxa and Death, Phainon and Comfort
  4. Anaxa to Khaslana
  5. Phainon's Nanook Parallels with Anaxa's Nous Parallels
  6. Phainon & Anaxa Mirror Mnestia & Cerces More Than You Think

and now that that's out of the way, let's dive into a few notes before we begin:

  • each segment will have a listed word count!
  • for topics two (2) and three (3), heavier themes will be present. the former goes over how phainon views himself, with a lot of self-hate and loathing involved. the latter deals with anaxa's relationship to death and his suicidality. like always, this will have the proper content warnings tagged, but again, please be wary when reaching those segments! take care of yourself.
  • this can generally be read with or without a romantic/shipping lense, as i believe their relationship transcends a definite relationship label. they are a bit crazy
  • but going off of that, topic six (6) has many romantic undertones, considering what it is i'll be discussing. everything about phainon and anaxa is queer, do not forget.

without further ado, enjoy!

Anaxa describes Phainon in their relationship as “an unforgettable student”, yet Phainon seems to be the one who is unable to forget Anaxa no matter what.

reading this the first time made me take a blowing bubbles break, reading this the second time made me relapse and consider therapy, and reading this the third time made me do all of the above while frantically writing this bc 3.6 post-nut clarity hits too damn hard.

(congratulations to anaxalings, we won!)

like yeah, you get it op, you get it once more. don’t mind me using your post to talk about this. i am starving for them…

one of the many beauties of Phainon & Anaxa’s relationship is the trust they have towards one another that transcends time and space itself, and cannot be overwritten by anything or anyone; not Lygus’s administration system, not the scepter’s, not even the Aeons.

despite being “bugs” in a game—inside a game, their programming goes against the procedure and find comfort in one another. it’s almost as if, in every timeline, in every life, they will always find each other.

ER 134 proved the statement to be correct, Flame Reaver’s hesitation when it comes to Anaxa in 3.1, Khaslana’s many, many delusions, or just anything going on between the two in 3.4 to be honest, and now with Evernight’s Chrysos Heirs MBTIs.

Anaxa’s part specifically highlighting trust. something he doesn’t give out often, and something he held dear to his heart.

“But once trust is earned, he offers unwavering loyalty without question.”

ER 134.

Anaxa made no effort to question Khaslana’s claims or himself, he trusted him completely, and fully. Anaxa trusted him even if in that ER he hasn’t yet met Phainon. Anaxa trusted Khaslana and was willing to let him take the Coreflame of Reason.

not just ER 134. even in 3.2, Anaxa trusts Phainon to not bring shame to his theory and that he still has him. the famous quote, folks.

“Besides, I still have you, don’t I?”

Phainon on the other hand, 3.4 was just him highlighting Anaxa’s theory and Anaxa as a person throughout the entire patch, while also suffering 24/7.

“Professor Anaxa deployed wards in the north and east before… Their effectiveness is untested, but I believe in him.”

aaugshsfhsjalw oh, to have love and trust such as them… phainaxa you will always, always, be peak.

side note, reading this analysis made me rewatch 3.2’s cutscenes and when Anaxa died, Phainon was hugging himself and looking away; the same way Flame Reaver looked away when he thrusted the ceremonial blade, and perhaps, the same way how Khaslana’s desire to save the Chrysos Heirs dropped to 0.00018 after “killing” Anaxa for what could be, the very first time.

just end me, already.

NeiKos496 & SkeMma720; Phainon & Erudition, Anaxa & Destruction

alright. i know i said previously that i was working on their general relationship analysis, AND I AM! but all of this has been eating at me the entire time i've been composing it and i've been in a dilemma on whether or not to include it in the analysis or make it a whole separate thing because it's really its own other topic. and!!!! here we are. it's a whole separate thing. phainaxa is kind of crazy #tbh

this post can also be titled 'Anaxa Haunts Phainon & The Entire Narrative', and you'll see why very soon.

  • this post will be tagged with the proper content warning labels, of course, but please be wary that i briefly talk about anaxa and his suicidal/self-harm tendencies in one part of this.
  • i'm pumping all of this out BEFORE 3.5, so all information here will be things we already know.
"Phainon is just as important to Anaxa as Anaxa is to Phainon."

op you fucking get it. you get what SO many don't in a single line that's easy to digest, yet somehow it will still be misinterpreted, missed, and completely butchered.

saying this bc I am tired™ of how the fandom treats Anaxa, and especially Phainon & Anaxa's relationship. way too many freaks tried and failed at making "analyses" over them while never once caring for either characters or both (most likely scenario #tbh) and in doing so, completely downplayed and diminished their connection.

was it the selective reading? was it the illiteracy? was it insecurity? was it the fact that Anaxa's mere existence somehow triggered a whole group that had no relation to Anaxa himself and wished for him to be deleted? the answer is, without a doubt, all of them.

which is why this analysis is great bc not only do you understand them through the narrative lens, but also the role they play in that narrative itself. even by putting down the shipping glasses, their relationship is still at play bc they're intertwined by the narrative to a tee; cases such as Anaxa haunting Khaslana's narrative are a product of it by itself, the Destruction vs Erudition, the wheat fields of "Phainon of Aedes Elysiae, what is your dream?" is another, or the famous ER 134. so on and so forth.

good catch on Anaxa's character, especially bc I have yet to find anyone outside AnaxaMains (DC) that actually did a deep dive on his character in the grand scheme of things and doesn't shrug him off just because; as for that, you deserve a big smooch.

nice call on discussing about Phainon & Anaxa's relationship, too. you explained it in a very well-thought-out manner. yeah, they're insane, but also consider their insanity to double or triple, even; when realizing that they're integrated by the program itself to the point that it's practically impossible to talk about one without mentioning the other, at the very least.

I'd like to point out that Cyrene definitely deserves a spot in here as well bc #bugtrio, and it's self-explanatory to be honest.

plus point on bringing up the HI3rd counterparts! that was lovely to read. it weirded me out whenever those people are still on about saying that Anaxa is not a Su variant or even bringing up a completely different character bc the thought of Anaxa being important drives them insane, and especially important to Phainon, might I add. like, why the hell is Dan Heng the bus driver all of a sudden? folks like that would vigorously refuse any mention of the Nameless Trio having parallels with the Bug Trio bc if they did not, then they would have to admit that Anaxa IS a Su variant. funny how they can’t use the “Dan Heng is a Su variant” excuse to satisfy their delusions bc it turns into a double-edged sword of an excuse.

at the end, it just turns into two sections:

admit and accept that Anaxa is a Su variant.

or,

imply that Anaxa is a Su variant from having parallels with Dan Heng that #they swore up and down is the real Su variant.

or! a better one! leave Anaxagoras and Su alone!

as an enjoyer of the Bug Trio, it’s no surprise I enjoy the Bugs and the Nameless parallels as well; this is not at all a jab at Dan Heng one bit! he's cool, and I would kill to get a scene with Anaxa and Dan Heng — but let's face it, Anaxagoras is Su, through and through, and this is not a debate.

also, #nooticing how they only ever bring up Su while completely forgetting about Pardofelis and Cipher. it's like clockwork at this point; unintentionally funny, ngl.

some food for thought, considering the topic of HI3rd counterparts, it's definitely interesting how the active signals consist of HI3rd counterparts. Castorice is an exception, but we already got that explanation of her being a Titan from the old era back in 3.2, so yeah. make of it as what you will, still very interesting nonetheless.

all in all. thank you for doing this! it's not much, but it's honest work, and I am vehemently happy that folks are starting to open their eyes regarding Phainon of Aedes Elysiae and Anaxagoras.

You! American fan of foreign or otherwise un-American media! Are you aware of the nuances and cultural differences that are portrayed in that media and have an understanding that you as an outsider looking in should be careful with the lenses you analyze that media in because you have a different perspective that is not catered to?
