some fics i've written with bad descriptions

  • the cost of a thing - a case fic where dean and cas have to fake a relationship with each other in an idyllic suburban neighborhood, they're both pining and are idiots but it's ambiguous as to why until later, i invent a new monster that eats people's loneliness
  • ascend - fix-it fic, i don't observe 15x20, dean grieves like a goddamn widow, weird physics shit, gabriel helps while also maintaining his dick status, there's a happy ending where cas comes back and everyone cries and dean and cas cuddle as is their goddamn right
  • too much - i cried writing this because i have no chill, the short story of cas and dean intersecting over the years and finally coming together
  • passing ships - first destiel long fic i've ever written, cas is a cupid assigned to dean, anti-soulmate au, lots of sad cas, dean is a kindergarten teacher and ridiculously adorable, lots of fluff shoved in between the angst
  • destiel tumblr collection - a series of small fics i wrote on tumblr and cross-posted to ao3, they all feature dean and cas being silly and in love in different aus and canon moments
  • la hantise (deleted off ao3) - spooky scary horror fic set on the moody coast of maine, cas and dean fix up a house together, both are brought closer together by their traumatic pasts, lots of family drama and rainy days. going to be an original novel, DM me if you want the destiel version via google docs

don't worry, there's more!

  • where there is darkness - 1950s historical au, dean is a grumpy little lighthouse keeper/traumatized ww2 vet, cas comes to work with him in the isolated lighthouse and is also on the run, blasphemic religious allegory, sooo much hurt/comfort i mean soooo much, lighthouse facts at the end of every chapter, a splash of horror to give you nightmares
  • the weight of the world - cas whump, caretaker dean, deals with rowena's attack dog spell and also ACTUALLY addresses the whole MoC beat down, lots of angst and sex, author lightly explores wing kink for the first time
  • Paradigm - most ambitious plot i've ever written, post-apocalyptic world, cas and dean are gone on each other upon immediate interaction, read if you want to get surprised about something, dean and cas are soooo obsessed with each other in this one like levels of 'i would destroy a world for you' kind of levels
  • Where We Belong - my first romcom!!, rancher dean, cas and bobby are grumpy accountants, small town vibes with lots of mutual pining, cas falls into dean's creek, nothing hurts (except for chapter 6), BEAUTIFUL art that spurred (ha) the story into conception, sit down with a cup of hot cocoa and take a load off
  • the sound of silence - yet another empty rescue fic, selectively mute dean, i attempt to be artsy, but mostly what came out was pain and suffering with a happy ending
  • The Truth - cas gets hit with a truth spell, early season 12 canon divergent, dean and cas are constipated assholes, grace sex at the end though don't worry

hiii i just wanted to say how much i love your fics i’ve been a fan for about a decade i think at this point lol…. but i had always seen “maybe this time” as such a cas centric deancas song and so i was so excited and validated when i came across it in ascend!! it’s so so perfect!!

CONTENDER

Part IV of Heavyweight a deancas boxing au by valleydean (emmbrancsxx0) read parts I - III on ao3 | playlist | youtube trailer

SUMMARY: Brooklyn, 1924. During their rise to fame, two professional boxers at the beginning of their careers meet and begin a turbulent affair. Set to the backdrop of opulent parties, dark-lit speakeasies, and the bright spotlight of the championship ring, Dean and Cas get caught up in boxing's seedy underworld.

Hate it when TikTok farm cosplayers and cottagecore types say stuff like "I'm not going to use modern equipment because my grandmothers could make do without it." Ma'am, your great grandma had eleven children. She would have killed for a slow cooker and a stick blender.

I’ve noticed a sort of implicit belief that people used to do things the hard way in the past because they were tougher or something. In reality, labor-saving devices have historically been adopted by the populace as soon as they were economically feasible. No one stood in front of a smoky fire or a boiling pot of lye soap for hours because they were virtuous, they did it because it was the only way to survive.

Summary:

Dean wakes up in a dreamlike meadow without any memory of how he got there.

His only clue is a crumpled piece of paper that he has been clutching in his hand.

It contains just two words in urgent handwriting:

FIND CASTIEL

But that name means nothing to him.

Excerpt:

The air smelled of flowers and hope. Leaves rustled in a soft breeze, and birds chirped peacefully as if everything was going to be all right. He might have believed them, if only he wasn't suffering from such a splitting headache. Dean blinked with a groan, instantly blinded by the rays of sunlight shining down on him through the treetops. The warmth felt like fire running through his eyes and over his cheeks.

With another pained noise, he placed his hands on the grass below to push himself up and became aware of the sensation of something rough pressing against his left palm. Squinting against the sharp tearing in his skull, he found a crumpled piece of paper. It looked worn enough that he must have been holding it for a while. Strange.

He unfolded it to reveal only two words created in rather urgent handwriting:

FIND CASTIEL

The last letter had a messy line moving outwards to the edge of the paper, as if the writer had been very rudely disrupted. Even stranger.

He looked around for any signs of the person who could have handed him the note but found that he was surrounded by nothing but nature as far as the eye could see. Trees loomed high over the meadow he was sitting in, and several white rabbits hopped through the grass so suspiciously close to him that they must have never learned to fear humans.

Where was he?

And who the Hell was Castiel?

Coming soon for the @destielaureversebb: “Welcome to the End Hotel”

Author: owco Artist: @ochofaces

Rating: Teen and Up Archive warnings: Major character death Length: 10,000 words Tags:  Castiel’s true form, Castiel has tentacles, unreliable narrator, horror Relationships: Dean/Castiel

Summary:

Dean has earned a little rest and relaxation, and where better to get it than the Welcome to the End Hotel? He’s got everything he could ever need; there’s unlimited food, cable TV, a king sized bed, and nowhere to be. It’s absolutely perfect.

Perfect, of course, is always too good to be true.

Excerpt:

The Welcome to the End Hotel is a real step up from the cut-rate motels he’s used to staying at when he travels for work. The room is clean (actually clean, not sprayed down with overly scented industrial grade cleaner and never really scrubbed). It’s well appointed, if a little plain. There’s some elevator art on the walls, a sofa, and a large desk that makes Dean think that the place is nice enough that executives on business trips might stay here. The bathroom is all sparkly white tile, with a tub and shower – separate no less.

All in all, the prospect of spending a few days here is nothing short of idyllic. Dean plans to take full advantage.

Coming soon for the @destielaureversebb: “Dean Winchester's Guide to the Appalachian Trail”

Author: quiettewandering / @wanderingcas Artist: sidewinder / @hawkland

Rating: Mature Archive warnings: None Length: 32,000 words Tags:  Alternative Universe with Supernatural Elements, John Winchester’s A+ Parenting, Canon-Typical Violence, Sexy Times in the Woods, Hurt/Comfort Relationships: Dean/Castiel

Summary:

In the wake of his father’s sudden death, Dean makes the impulsive decision to hike the Appalachian Trail in hopes that it will disconnect him from the world and his grief. However, soon after Dean meets the mysterious Castiel on the trail, hikers begin to disappear, and as Dean hikes more and more miles, it becomes clear that something lurks deep in the woods—an evil whose true nature Dean and Castiel must unravel before it’s too late.

Excerpt:

“Are you all right?”

Dean slowly looks up. Someone is standing above him, his face shadowed by the sun that’s just behind the crown of his head.

“Oh, yeah,” Dean says, half his face still in the moss, “fucking peachy.”

For a moment, the man stands there, seeming to be at a loss. “I can help you up,” he offers, but the words sound unsure. Like he can’t tell what Dean even needs. Come to think of it, actually, his voice is nice—deep like the gravel that Dean’s face-first in.

“Nah,” Dean says. “I’m just gonna lie here.”

“It’ll be dark soon.”

Dean grunts an affirmative into the moss.

The man sighs. “I assume you’re trying to summit the mountain.”

“No shit, Sherlock.”

One hand grips his arm, the other his backpack. With a yelp, Dean’s hauled up to his knees in one fell swoop. “Hey!” he snaps.

The man, unruffled, takes a step back. “You can’t keep lying there. You need to make camp on the summit before it gets dark. The temperatures are too cold for you to be out here without any sort of shelter.”

Dean rubs his arm and glares. Now that he’s out of the sunlight, he can see that the man’s face is about as nice as his voice: a cut jaw, bright blue eyes, dark tousled hair. He’s not wearing hiking clothes and is in a trench coat, of all things. And... dress shoes. This guy is even less prepared than Dean, which is saying something.

“You work at the lodge or something?” Dean asks.

“No,” the man says. He offers no other explanation.

Coming soon for the @destielaureversebb: “When Angels Deserve to Die”

Author: @samanddean76 Artist: @teeglass

Rating: Explicit Archive warnings: Graphic depictions of violence Length:  10,000 words Tags:  Reverse Verse, Angel Dean, Hunter Cas Relationships: Dean/Castiel

Summary:

Cas managed to survive the apocalypse. He watched the angels, who are little more than wicked, winged monsters, as they destroyed the world. He not only bears scars, but responsibilities to those who lived. But now he is faced with a challenge. Can he truly be the perfect vessel that will be used to right all the wrongs? If he believes what the angel who visits him in his dreams tells him, he need only trust him long enough to save the world. But can he truly be that lucky?

Excerpt:

“Stabbery mayhem, is that what it’s to be then?” The angel inquired, one brow arching high, even though he put forth no efforts to remedy the situation. Acting as if he was stabbed on a regular basis, that this was a frequent occurrence. And of no consequence whatsoever.

Cas began to struggle to his feet when the offending blade was grasped and removed with a grunt. Left to clatter to the floor. Forgotten. No more than an annoyance that had been dealt with.

“I applaud your bravery. Indeed, that may be why you were chosen.” He took a step forward, and extended his hand, “And I have no idea where my manners went, but my name is Dean. And I will be protecting you this fine evening.”

Cas wanted to rewind, to examine the moment, but the film wouldn’t stop playing, and he grasped the warm fingers, and then he was on his feet, staring into those amazing green eyes once more.

“Protecting me? From what?” Cas heard the tremble in his voice, because he could also feel the fear that was coursing through him, leaving his heart pounding in his chest, as he tried to drag in several deep and calming breaths.

“The leader of the opposition. Those angels who wished to cleanse the planet of all humans.” Dean cocked his head to the side, eyes narrowing, “Lucifer is in need of a new vessel. But he is incapable of using any but one other. You, as a matter of fact.”

Coming soon for the @destielaureversebb: “Knit 2 Together”

Author: Raven_Fucks / @ravenfuchs Artist: TwinOne / @twinone1221

Rating: Teen and Up Archive warnings: None Length:  10,000 words Tags:  Modern AU, Firefighter Dean, Knit shop Owner Castiel, Knitting Relationships: Dean/Castiel, Jody/Donna

Summary:

Firefighter Dean Winchester is recovering from a work related injury that has left him with a broken leg, compromised lungs, and PTSD. He finds comfort in the knitting videos posted by a local knit shop owner, Castiel Novak. Dean’s therapist suggested that he take up a hobby during his recovery period. He enters the store thinking he’d take up the craft and leaves with the owner's number.

Can Castiel help Dean see that he’s more than just his job?

Excerpt:

As he scrolled through the offerings on YouTube he found himself watching funny cat videos which somehow led him to a knitting video.

It was never his intention to watch anything on knitting but the last thing he watched had autoloaded content of a dorky, but handsome, man giving instructions on simple knitting techniques. The man's voice was soothing and captivating and before Dean was aware of doing it he'd clicked on "subscribe".

Over the next few nights he watched several of the tutorials, finding comfort in the deep timbre of the man's voice and an almost hypnotic relaxation from watching a skein of yarn transform into an object stitch-by-stitch. There was something cathartic in watching the creation of a garment or a blanket form from a few skillfully placed loops.

The more he watched the more intrigued he became. He reviewed the listing of videos and watched the "foundations of knitting" ones. And if he watched the same episode several times, well that wasn't anybody's business but his. One night after several viewings of the basics and how to make a simple potholder, he thought to himself, 'this guy makes it look so easy, maybe I should give it a try'.

The following morning he was on the phone to his best friend, Charlie Bradbury, asking for a ride into town to the local yarn shop.
