QUESTION: [Last Life] While throwing the poison potion in session 6, did you realise that Bdubs was also there? How do you feel about what happened?

joined a characted ask a while back, and now im finally getting around to posting the stuff i drew for it!

a bit of context for the comic: during session 6, etho (the boogeyman) suggested everyone to stand in a huddle to prove their trust, and then threw a poison potion under their feet. mumbo (the second boogeyman) used this situation to blow up an end crystal, killing only bdubs (the third boogeyman).

Oh my goodness, I drew this start to finish in a single morning…

This has officially become my most popular post here after three-ish days. I’m losing my mind. But I think I should share some of the symbolism I put into it if people are interested!

So: Joel and Bdubs are on contrasting sides of the same cube, able to mix like vinegar and water, all while Etho acts as common ground due to his connection to both. He’s deeply intertwined with the two of them while being a separate third party. Not only that, but the movement of Joel and Bdubs’ sides represents the unstable dynamic between the two as they are thrown off balance due to the actions of the other. But they truly can’t meet in the middle, touch, nor even see the other side. It’s a cycle of consistent movement and energy, but Etho provides the foundation and makes the connection between Bdubs and Joel a solid object. Whereas without Etho, they would be a collection of squares in separate piles.
