Thanks a lot! I saw the second post but not the first so I was missing a lot of the important context (notably the fact that Kapoor was selected by the company who developed Vantablack, rather than decide to "greedily keep it for itself" as the narrative goes)

Also, it's not a pigment or a paint. He can't "greedily keep it to himself" because you physically cannot use it. It's an application of carbon nanotubes. It has to be done in a lab under extremely controlled conditions. It's also not actually made for art but for industrial applications. The company that developed it decided they wanted to show off their neat new process, so they decided to pick one artist to work with.

The company's CEO stated that they picked Kapoor specifically because of his previous work, namely stuff like The Bean. So, again, they were never going to pick Semple or any of the other white dudes who whined really loudly in the press, and why? Because they don't do art like that at all.

So yeah.

This situation has always really bothered me to see- and aside from that, Stuart has a long track record of shady business. If you look at the subreddit for his business, Culture Hustle- it's very active and full of people who regret ordering getting nothing for months, never receive their items, are sent them only *after* chargebacks sometimes with glitter bombs for an added layer of fuck you. Regular updates on his failed attempts at attention grabbing and products like the phone he generated the mockup for with AI and his failed adobe project.

He was also big on the nft bandwagon so no shock he jumped into ai. Hes a damned scam.

This was a ploy from florence to have his remains moved back for the tourist money and its been ongoing for a long time. Florence had a fake tomb built in the city to trick people into visiting, and have tried to force the return of the remains.

His actual caretakers have been very steadfast in keeping them hidden, moved, or generally out of reach to respect his choice in life to never, ever, ever return to florence, even when he was first offered the chance to return. This is at this point an almost millenium long feud that florence is really, really mad about losing
