I'd like to develop a sophisticated-layman's understanding of how modern CPUs and GPUs are manufactured, start to end. I'd like to read a series of in-depth blog posts about this, by someone who's not a programmer and ideally doesn't live in california. or I guess it's the kind of thing I could watch a long video about. any leads?

no idea if this will be the right level of abstraction/complexity but it seems pretty close to what you're asking for.

yeah this is great, this is exactly what I wanted, thank you. it's a bit too in-depth even, since I'm lacking some prior knowledge, but it looks like the guy has a bunch of other stuff to catch me up on that. epic

I wish there was a drug (or implant?!) that temporarily inhibited brocas area. I'd like to think without my verbal centers chattering all the time. Sleep is the closest thing. What would it be like to interact with another person, or try to satisfy a desire, etc, without words?

@yorickest said: you should try meditation

?!? Surely this is just isolating yourself with your words? Opposite of what I want!

no... now I don't have words in my head most of the time, but I do sometimes. and if I want to ensure that I don't, I sort of "clear my mind" and focus on my breath/bodily sensations which is the same thing I do when I try to meditate (well it's been a few years). surely you don't think people doing meditation are just sitting there letting their internal monologue chatter away...

oh and I was going to say just sitting there and meditating sounds like not really want you want, but it could be a way to exercise the muscle of turning off your internal monologue, developing that skill, such that you could then deploy it in everyday life

I'm not doing that actually but I could go for the chinese takeout part...

does it count as llm psychosis to say i think it's hot how pathetic they made gemini?

everyone talks about gemini freaking out and having meltdowns and apologizing over everything but I use it pretty frequently and have never seen anything like that. I think those people might just be really mean

the 19th century was a good time for wandering. bakunin walked from russia to germany, where he got to know wagner (this association is part of why wagner left for switzerland) while starting some of the 1848 uprisings. then he got sentenced to death in several places, being sent backwards between each of them. then it was commuted to exile in sibera. but he could read, so he was pretty useful moving goods around. and he did the natural thing and just left, following the river all the way to the pacific and hopping a boat to yokohama. from yokohama to san francisco, and across the US interior, and then over the other ocean. then from london back to italy. circumnavigated the globe to continue his internet arguments. and wrote almost nothing about that

today a hot woman tried to get me to smell her finger and I said "no I'm not going to smell your finger" and she was kind of offended and I feel bad. I should have smelt it.

I think it's possible the xia dynasty was founded by ancient peruvians who crossed the pacific and brought civilization to china
