hey want to read a terrifying sentence about dumping drums of nuclear waste on the seafloor:

"When some early containers failed to sink, they were shot full of holes, which quickly brought the waste into contact with the environment"

Fun fact! The Russians dumped 17 whole-ass nuclear reactors in shallow water off Novaya Zemlya in the 90s. I realize my mental imagery of metal drums with scary green radioactive symbols on them is a bit cartoonish but I'm having an even hard time imagining what a whole dumped reactor looks like

Warding off the oncoming depressive episode by reading about very old tortoises

Pleased to report that the 190 year old tortoise is a gay icon

Jonathan is the oldest known land animal btw. I need everyone to know that the oldest animal alive is a gay tortoise

New from the author who brought us "any sufficiently deep enthusiasm is indistinguishable from academic rigor", a sagacious contribution to someone else's reasonable post about academic writing being inaccessible: academics need to tell more jokes and chill out, bro

Really fascinating how forcefully these tags reveal that AR simply does not conceptualize research as 1. covering any topics beyond their interests or interests that can be classified as quirky and nerdy; and 2. existing for purposes beyond being useful for the writing of bad romantasy books

Kept thinking about this while working on revisions today for my study on the rise of right wing rhetoric in renewable energy industry spaces (Reviewer 1: "fascinating but deeply disturbing findings"). I'm not a nerd with a hyperfixation, I'm a professional trying to solve problems and communicate useful contributions to other people who solve problems. Unfortunately the problems are not things I or most people can be jokey and chill about.
