Because he just so happens to be a rare case of a tier 1 player who's very good to work with. Ask anyone who's worked with him before and they'll only have positive things to say about him. Are there better players out there? Yes, but nobody wants to get rid of a really nice coworker who does their job to an acceptable degree at worst
Jamppi's another example of this... ask any of his former teammates and coaches and they'll say he was a joy to work with

Listen, dude, Brasil IS the better team. But it's very hard to overlook how Brasil have looked recently and it's much harder to overlook how Ecuador did in qualifying. Finishing 2nd with a 3 point deduction is absurd, and conceding 5 in 18 matches in CONMEBOL of all places is even crazier. I'd put them around the same if I redid rankings right now, but the friendly against France in March could totally change my mind 👍
