It was a tricky thing to be born both a Lanterna and a Spy of the Shadowbinder. To an outsider it must seem that both sides would be in constant conflict - to guide those in desperate need but also to gather intelligence by any means necessary (but most commonly deception). Penumbra had learnt to adapt. She hadn't felt the Lanterna calling in her life, being only a Pathfinder, so it was easy to remain in the shadows, keep distant of personal connection, and feed back information. The natural approachability and aura of trustworthiness her Lanterna blood gave her meant that dragons were often willing to freely confide in her, or answer her questions. It was rare that she had to obtain information by dishonest means. Her Sage abilities helped her balance Light and Shadow while being neither herself. Penumbra could transmute between Arcane, Shadow and Light alignments, but no other dragons knew that - only the Shadowbinder, Penumbra assumed. Surely this ability was why the deity had seen potential in her and had guided Penumbra from birth to serve her over the Arcanist. Penumbra's life changed forever when she felt a cry for help, large and more overwhelming than anything she had experienced before. It shouldn't have been possible for her to be able to access such Lanterna senses but it seemed such a loud call could be heard even by her. A whole clan in need. ![]() She felt the need greatest at the site the clan had left. There was something unnerving about a whole area that ought to be vibrant and verdant beneath layers of frost and ice. The land was sick, she could feel it, but there was nothing she could do about that. She could sense dragons here, but only a few, no doubt to keep the area secure and prevent the spread of whatever the sickness was. She did not feel a calling towards these individuals. They needed no help in their work. The potentially dangerous land was reported back to the Shadowbinder, goop running from her paws into the earth to carry the message. Penumbra moved on to find the dragons who were lost. ![]() She arrived at Seedscar to much hostility and confusion. A Mirror and Guardian licked each other's wounds, grumbling about betrayal and fear and cowardice. Penumbra remained hidden, slinking in the shadows in the form of a grey-black fox that hid her many eyes. These dragons weren't of the clan she sought. They did not smell like dragons at all. Something else to report. The clan was leaving again, but only just. She could catch up. She shifted into a dragon at the shore and took flight. The sun was setting, and the darkness of night would allow her Lanterna senses to shine, enabling her to home in on those she sought with far greater ease. There was one dragon amongst the groups that was clearer to her in the dark than any other. A Guardian, swimming effortlessly in the calm waters. Penumbra followed along, in the shadow of night, until the group made landfall on the shores of the Tsunami Flats. A small group split off to do some recon further inland. Penumbra presumed the Clan leaders were in there, checking out the territories of local clans to make sure they weren't stepping on any claws with their arrival. But Penumbra didn't need to ask any locals to know the perfect place for these dragons to settle, that had space enough to house them all. It wouldn't be permanent, she knew that, somehow. These lost dragons weren't 'found' yet but this would be enough for now. Penumbra knew she needed to do what she could to help the clan find their home again, however long that might take. She set across the beach to make contact and offer her guidance to the Guardian whose scales still carried a pearlescent shimmer even without influence of Penumbra's senses, and who's eyes glowed in a way that was both brilliant and disarming. They seemed easily overwhelmed and frazzled by the circumstances, but introduced themself as Aysu. They were grateful for the guidance, if slightly puzzled by the good fortune of being given it as soon as they arrived. "Are you a local?" they asked. "Something like that," she smiled. ![]() Sage Subspecies: Blasphemous Glitter These Sages are respected, perhaps even feared. But not without cause, since their power allows them to alter the elemental alignments. How the transmutation from one element to another is accomplished is a secret known only to the Sparkle Sage performing the act. Each method is unique to the dragon that uses it. As this ability runs so counter to the nature of Sorneith itself these Sages can face discrimination, which may also contribute to their secrecy over their methods. |
