Biography
Nest Tender and Hatchling Minder.
Mate: Iorwerth
Awakened Familiar: Cockatrice, Noggle, Golden Bantam Fangar
Big gay daddy fluff.
Threaten their kids and you'll discover why plant eating Tundra have sharp canine teeth.
Enjoyed the relative quiet of the nesting grounds as opposed to the hatchling creche, so regularly crept over to snooze amongst the nesting parents. Always quiet and respectful, no one minded his presence.
In the early days of adulthood, he returned for some much needed peace. A nesting father, stiff from sitting his clutch for longer than usual and anxious why his mate had not shown up for nesting duty as planned, gratefully let Rhys sit his nest when Rhys offered. Tucked up in the nest with the two eggs safe within the curve of his body, Rhys found fulfilment.
After that, he often took up nest tending duties. He sat the eggs to allow parents to briefly stretch their wings, attend to themselves, or leave to take care of other business as it cropped up. He cleaned out old nests, and brought materials to repair or construct new ones. He quickly gained a trustworthy reputation around the nesting grounds and more and more parents relied on his help.
Often his eyes would stray to the nearby creche, and one Tundra in particular. Iorwerth was brilliant with hatchlings, playing with them and caring for them in such a natural way that they all adored him. Rhys ached with a quiet longing, but any time he mustered the courage to talk to him, a parent would call Rhys over, or a hatchling would have a problem that required all of Iorwerth's attention.
One day as Rhys was on his way to the nesting grounds, a group of hatchlings playing a particularly boisterous game made Iorwerth literally bump into him. Before they could be embarrassed by the tangle of limbs, the giggling children dragged them both into the game. Seeing how overwhelmed they were, some of the parents stepped in and sent the pair off for a much needed break.
It turned out that Iorwerth had been looking as much as Rhys had, he discovered once the first awkward conversation gave way to more familiar chatting. They met regularly for dates between their duties, sharing drinks, getting a massage together, or reading next to one another. They both continued to look, but now their gazes met and held fondly. Rhys knew he'd found his one, and was delighted when Iolo confessed he felt the same. They became mates and the certainty of their relationship settled him to true contentment.
They started sharing duties while courting. Rhys would venture over to play games with the hatchlings. Iolo would come over to keep him company on a nest. Rhys still prefers nest tending. He'll always help Iolo where he can.
They spent all day caring for other dragons' eggs and hatchlings, but they could not have children of their own together. Rhys worried he was being selfish to want such a thing. Iolo wanted children too and suggested they find a surrogate. They heard about Regan, a wandering Tundra who delighted in giving hatchlings to those who wanted them, and arranged for her to visit them. She stayed at the clan for a month, laying a clutch with them both, before continuing on with her quest. Rhys loves her for giving him a daughter and a son.
Did not inherit his father's love of spicy food.
