If you asked about Juniper, the first thing you would hear is she is full of fire. A fire that burned deep within and still managed to reach out and ensnare you. It didn't just touch you gently like a subtle warmth, it pulled you in like a blaze on a cold night. All around flocked to her like a moth to an open flame, and you had to be careful not to get burned. If you asked about Juniper, the second thing you would hear is she is alive. Alive like the wind in the trees, like a river raging after a hard winter. Alive like the birds flying and ants crawling. She existed in such a manner that everything around her seemed distant-like everything was cast in a fog except her. If you asked about Juniper, the third thing you would hear is how loyal she was. Loyal to the Gladekeeper, who showed her the gentle nature of the Labyrinth. Loyal to Kayori, who gave her a warm meal and soft bed. Loyal to Locke, who gifted her with more knowledge of the world. And sometimes if you asked about Juniper, the other would just smile in fondness and tell you to find out for yourself. |

Were the lives she took unjustly really actions she should be held accountable for, given the Shade? Finally she would say, "Rycarius did bad things because something else bad made her. It is not the same as me going and destroying a whole Maren pod because I felt like it, even if they had done us no wrong." He didn't see content with this and Juniper could see it plainly, so she tried to continue. "Being a hero is hard because...Even though I want to do good and help others, sometimes you make the wrong choice. And you have to live with those repercussions." "What is... Repercussions?" "The things that happen after you do something. If I threw a pebble into that pond, all our big Koi would scatter from their peaceful feeding because they would be very scared. They would be scared of small pebbles and of me. That is a repercussion." "...Oh. I think I understand." She would nod and ruffle the feathers on his head. "I knew you would." |
