Matteo is- WAS- a Mentor, a special position assigned to experienced and knowledgeable dragons to ensure the safety and prosperity of the countless clans that serve the Storm-Lord.

Matteo is proud of his indelible achievements - sixteen different clans rose to be the Storm-Lord's elite personnel under his counsel and many more which would've crumbled and shattered were guided into glory by his teachings and advice.

One day, what supposed to be a routine assignment to a clan that's struggling to stay on its feet became a battle of survival as the clan appears to have drawn the ire of the World- food and treasure shortages were a dangerously frequent occurrence, natural disasters seem to concentrate in their forage and hunting grounds, hatchlings went missing in various circumstances and more than one of the clan dragon - the very dragons he was sworn to guide and protect - died under mysterious circumstances, until a large nomadic Beastclan, realizing their once in a lifetime chance, decided to strike the struggling clan down. Matteo tried and fought hard to ensure the clan's survival, until eventually, after 47 days of continuous fighting - both without and within, the clan itself crumbled and its members scattered into the thunderous winds. While the Thunderclap Court stated that he did all he could and that he did his job well until the very end, he is embittered and deems that his failure meant that he's no longer fit for the position.

For a high-ranking official to relinquish their title and position was almost unheard of - especially for highly prestigious positions like Mentors, and rumors quickly spread like wildfire before dying out just as quick, and the regretful Mentor faded into obscurity.

There are new rumors, however, that a certain black Skydancer with an unmistakable aura of guidance is seen in the vicinity of the Canyons. However, with eyewitnesses being scarce, none can tell if it's the regretful Mentor who have managed to find a new calling and a new home.

While his counsel and his wisdom has not rusted one bit ever since the dreadful fall of the fateful clan, he mostly keeps his opinions and advices to himself unless specifically asked for, since he believes that his constant guiding of the previous clan is one amongst the many things that brought its ruin.

Nowadays, old Matteo can usually be seen in the lair's Grand Waygate, which is simply a purple-prosed name given to the only "official" entry and exit way of the lair, where he now runs a supply shop to help provide provisions ("now paid in gold, and later in blood") and the occasional advice to brave young dragons, fulfilling his old duties in a more hands-off and slightly different way.
