Biography
|
A Spiral with high expectations and a serious dedication to theater, Schap serves as head lighting designer for Shockwave Festival and Forest Peaks Center's other shows.

|
Schap knows that the audiences at Forest Peaks Center probably aren't considering what goes on behind the scenes at the shows they attend.
Thankfully for him, the Spiral doesn't care. Backstage is his home, as are the rafters above the stage where he hangs fixtures and runs cable. He may be unseen, but he knows his work isn't, and Schap considers himself as much of a starring artist as the musicians headlining the shows.
He is a shaper of light, not unlike Lightweaver herself, stitching intricate patterns that blink and blend into one another as they are cast across the stage. As one of the few lighting designers of Sornieth, he's responsible for every step of the design process from maintenance to programming. Schap even works as a glazier to repair broken glass in his fixtures. With a sharp eye for how to throw light and shadow to form shapes that dance along to the beat like creatures of flame. Days and weeks of careful planning go into each song to ensure he creates the correct mood. He spends even more time just sitting, watching and rewatching, tweaking and improving.
A bit perfectionist, he knows, but again, it's all worthwhile to get results.
Schap is right in the thick of the action at all times, working with riggers and artists and the rest of the running crew to be absolutely certain the show will go off without a hitch. He has done his part by designing the atmosphere, now they must not let anything mess up his masterpiece.
"Why do you care so deeply, Schap?", they ask him. Schap replies that well, it's his job. Really, it is much more than that, because after the house lights go down and the show begins, that's when his work takes over. He watches from behind the curtain, a soft smile creeping over his face as he catches a glimpse of the crowd. They're clearly thrilled to be a part of the experience, jumping, singing, lifting one another higher to get a better view. That is truly why he cares, because he knows they do.
Schap knows that somewhere out under the colorful, surreal glow of his lights, a fan is having a night they'll never forget. That means he's become what he wanted to be all along- a mage that makes memories and changes lives.
Even if they don't know it's him.
